Sweet Revenge With My Billionaire Vampire-Chapter 140: Get Ready
Adeline smirked, her blood pumping with anticipation. She clenched her fists and dropped into a fighter’s stance, her body shifting weight from foot to foot, swaying subtly back and forth. "Alright. Where do we start?"
"Well, aren’t you adorable?" He teased, taking a few steps back until he was a short distance away. He nodded once. "Get ready."
"Ready for what?"
He clapped his hands once, loud and sharp. "For anything."
Before Adeline could process what he meant, something inside her shifted. Her ears twitched involuntarily at a sound that hadn’t registered consciously. It was as though a switch flipped somewhere deep inside her, and her body launched into motion completely on its own.
Without even glancing behind her, she sidestepped, and at that exact instant, a powerful fist sliced through the air where her head had been a split second ago. A whooshing force followed it—like the wind trying to catch up—and it slammed into her like a wave, her ponytail whipping across her face.
Unable to maintain the sheer speed at which she had moved, she lost balance, stumbling over her feet, the grass crinkling beneath her as she landed on her backside.
Her eyes widened in shock as she looked up and saw Andrei, who stood where she had just been, his arm still extended from the punch he had thrown—one that would’ve connected with her head if she hadn’t moved. He straightened calmly, tucking his hand back at his side.
Her skin tingled with the rush of adrenaline, and goosebumps prickled up her arm and neck. "What the fuck?" she yelled, snapping her wide-eyed gaze to Enzo. "Are you trying to kill me?!"
"Of course not," he said, strolling toward her with a lazy grin.
He extended a hand, and she took it, and with a light tug, he pulled her up to her feet. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
She began brushing off the grass from her clothes, glancing between the two men with disbelief. "Then why did he just try to punch me?!" She gestured wildly with one hand at Andrei.
Andrei gave her a small, elegant bow of his head. "My apologies, Miss Adeline, if that startled you."
Adeline scoffed, utterly baffled, staring at him as if he had grown a second head. "Startled me? My soul nearly left my body, Andrei!"
Enzo reached out and gently patted Adeline’s head, his palm resting briefly against her crown. "Relax, princess. We were just putting your senses to the test. You weren’t supposed to see that punch coming."
She scoffed again, her hands flinging up for emphasis.
A proud smile lit up Enzo’s expression like a slow-burning flame, and his hands slid from her head to her cheeks, cupping them gently. "Addie, you just dodged an unsuspecting punch from Andrei, and you haven’t even trained yet. That’s very impressive."
Her expression softened, and slowly, a self-satisfied smile began to tug at her lips. But just as quickly as it had come, it vanished again, wiped away by a creeping frown. "Wait..." she said. "What if I hadn’t dodged it? What if that punch hit me?"
"Don’t worry. He was meant to miss. That punch wouldn’t have landed, even if you hadn’t moved. Anyway, like I was saying, if you actually put in just a bit of effort and train, you’re going to become a very strong vampire."
Adeline felt the smile pulling at her mouth again, but before it could settle in completely, Enzo added, "Of course, it’s all thanks to me."
She blinked, the smile freezing halfway through.
He gestured to himself with a smug look. "I mean, according to what we’ve been taught in our world, a turned vampire becomes almost as strong as the one who turned them. Sometimes even just as strong. So, really, it’s mostly just my genes—if you can call it that—at work here."
Adeline’s expression went blank, and she crossed her arms over her chest. "You know, sometimes you make me want to strangle you so badly."
Enzo leaned in, one hand slipping behind her neck to pull her head toward him. He placed a soft kiss against her cheek before brushing his lips close to her ear and whispering. "All I heard was, ’I love you so much, Enzo Laureati.’"
Stepping back before she could shove him, he clapped his hands together. "Alright. Let’s test your strength."
He patted his toned abs confidently with one hand and pointed at them with the other. "Hit me."
"What?"
"Hit me," he repeated. "And don’t hold back. Give it everything you’ve got. Hit me as hard as you can."
Her brow lifted slightly, her gaze uncertain. "Are you sure?" She glanced away, scanning the empty stretch of garden with a doubtful look, her eyes flicking toward a tree and then the far wall of the garden. "Isn’t there something else I could punch? I don’t want to hurt you."
Enzo burst out laughing, tipping his head back slightly.
Her attention shifted back to him, and she scowled. "What the hell are you laughing for?"
But he didn’t answer immediately. He just stood there, the smirk on his face glowing with mockery.
"What’s with the cocky look on your face?" she asked.
He couldn’t help it. The way she sounded so genuinely worried... It was hilarious to him. This was the same Adeline whose hits had always felt like being pelted with flower petals, even when she’d thrown them in frustration with all the force she had. And now, she thought she might hurt him? Just because she was a vampire?
Not wanting to seem cockier than he already looked, he waved a dismissive hand and said, "Nothing. Come on. Hit me."
"Alright then."
Stepping closer, she positioned herself, rolling her shoulders before drawing in a deep breath. She clenched her right fist tightly, the skin on her knuckles pulling taut. With her eyes locked on his abdomen, she focused every drop of strength in her body into her arm.
"Okay," she muttered to herself. "Here goes nothing. With her eyes locked on his abdomen, she twisted her body just slightly, pulled her fist back, and swung.
