Chapter 141: I Yield 141

Adeline’s eyes snapped shut as her fist crashed into his stomach. The impact reverberated up her arm, almost like punching into a wall layered with steel and stone. The sound wasn’t loud, but the feel of it pulsed in her bones.

For a moment, there was silence. Adeline didn’t open her eyes right away. She stood there, her fist still pressed to his abs, listening—waiting for a grunt, a flinch, or a cough, but there was nothing.

One eye cracked open, and she glanced upward. Enzo was looking down at her, smiling, but under one of his eyes, Adeline caught a barely noticeable twitch. The corner spasmed ever so slightly, like a nervous tic he hadn’t been able to suppress in time.

A devilish smirk spread across her face, gleaming with pride as she cocked her head slightly to the side. "Are you okay, my love?" She asked, her voice laced with mock concern.

Enzo didn’t answer right away. He stood there in silence for a few seconds, breathing out slowly through his nose, gathering his composure. "Of course I’m alright," he finally muttered. "Was that all you’ve got?"

In truth, it had hurt. A lot more than he’d expected. The moment her fist met his abdomen, it felt like someone had hurled a solid dumbbell into his stomach, and if he hadn’t braced himself just in time, it would’ve definitely knocked him back. Now that she was a vampire, the force behind her hits had been multiplied—easily tenfold from what it once was when she’d been human.

His abs throbbed beneath his skin, the burn spreading outward like a dull fire, but he couldn’t let it show. Not when he’d laughed after she mentioned hurting him.

Adeline raised both brows, her expression morphing into one of exaggerated surprise. "Is that so?" she replied sweetly. "Well, in that case... let me try again." 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Enzo stared down at her, lips pressed together in a flat line. For a few moments, he weighed his options.

If he backed down now, he’d never hear the end of it. He knew she’d spend the rest of the day teasing him into oblivion. Maybe even the rest of the week. She would tease him relentlessly, the same way he often teased her—but this time, the tables would have turned, and she would enjoy every second of it.

But taking another punch? If she landed another hit like that one, he wasn’t sure he’d be able to stay upright and keep the reaction off his face again. And if he managed to, she might decide to go for a third hit, just to see how far she could push him.

He caught the glint of amusement in her eyes and sighed quietly. "You sly girl," he thought, chuckling under his breath before spreading his arms again. "Very well, then. Go on."

Adeline bent her knees slightly, stepping into the same stance as before. Rubbing her clenched fist with her left hand, she cracked her knuckles once and murmured to herself, "Here goes nothing."

Enzo’s entire body tensed. He flexed every muscle in his torso, clenching his jaw tightly. His feet planted themselves firmly in the ground, and he braced himself, every fiber of his body preparing for impact.

Off to the side, Andrei remained a silent observer, his hands clasped behind his back. But even from where he stood, he could see the stiffness in Enzo’s stance, the strain in his face—he could tell the last punch had hurt. He wouldn’t interfere, though. Not unless Enzo gave the word.

Adeline exhaled softly and then swung forward, her fist crashing into his abs once again. The pain tore through him like a shockwave, and for a second, his body threatened to stagger backward, but he locked his knees, willing himself to stay upright. A groan clawed its way up his throat, nearly escaping, but he swallowed it and forced his expression to remain blank.

Adeline’s knuckles tingled with the echo of the impact as she took a single step back. "Jeez..." she murmured, wiggling her fingers to shake off the sting.

Her eyes narrowed slightly as she searched his face. He looked completely fine. There was no wince or grunt. Just an infuriatingly calm expression.

"Is he really unaffected? Did he twitch the first time just out of habit or surprise?" She wondered as her gaze drifted down to his abs again.

She had started to believe that her punches didn’t actually hurt, but she still had a bit of doubt. So, just to be someone sure, she asked, "Can I try one—"

She didn’t finish the sentence when Enzo’s hand suddenly came to rest heavily on her shoulder, cutting her off mid-sentence. His grip tightened—not harshly, but enough to make her brows furrow in confusion. Before she could say anything, he doubled over slightly, clutching his stomach with his other hand.

His breathing was uneven, short bursts of air escaping through his clenched teeth. His fingers gripped her shoulder tighter, like he was anchoring himself with her body, keeping himself from collapsing entirely.

"I yield," he muttered through a harsh exhale. "You win, okay? That really hurt like crazy. Fuck."

Stunned for a moment, Adeline’s eyes widened. "Wait... really?"

"Yeah..." he said, nodding. "I tried to endure the pain, but it was just too much. This is your first time using your new strength... And you’re already that good at it? Good job."

Her shock melted into a slow, glowing warmth, and a bright smile bloomed across her lips, her cheeks flushing softly. "Thanks," she said, visibly touched by the praise, her eyes dancing with pride.

Enzo glanced around the garden, still partially hunched. When his eyes landed on a wooden bench a few feet away, nestled under the shade of a tree, he lifted his hand and pointed at it. "I need to sit down."

"Alright." Adeline stepped to his side, lifting his right arm and pulling it over her shoulder. Her other arm looped around his waist as she braced herself beneath his weight. She supported him with surprising ease, and together, they walked slowly toward the bench.
