Sweet Revenge With My Billionaire Vampire-Chapter 147: What Are You Thinking About?
Svetlana had come to a grim realization that her future, and her daughters’, might rest entirely in Adeline’s hands. If she were to be kicked out tomorrow, she wouldn’t know what to do.
She’d spent decades in luxury, raising her daughters in a world without lack. The idea of losing that, of being cast out into some ordinary, common life, was unthinkable.
For now, she needed to stay in Adeline’s favor, so she offered a tight, practiced smile and nodded. "Alright then. You two have a safe drive."
Adeline gave her another small smile before turning away with Enzo, headed toward the garage where Andrei was waiting for them.
Andrei, upon seeing them approach, straightened and moved immediately to the passenger side, pulling the back seat door open with a silent nod.
Adeline slipped in first while Enzo paused outside the car, leaning slightly against the frame as he exchanged a few words with Andrei—most likely instructions or last-minute reminders.
From the backseat, Adeline could see only the shape of his back and the way his hand gestured occasionally as he spoke. She waited in silence, her fingers brushing against the seam of her jeans and her eyes drifting across the windows.
Realizing she hadn’t fastened her seatbelt yet, she reached for it, pulling it across her torso, and just as it latched, Enzo slipped in beside her, shutting the door with a quiet thud.
He didn’t say anything at first and simply leaned forward, his long arm reaching out to the dashboard to turn on the radio.
Immediately, the car was filled with the gentle sounds of violins and piano. Of course the first thing that played was classical music. This was Enzo’s car, after all.
A warm, content smile unfurled across his lips as he leaned back, relaxing into the seat, his head bobbing faintly to the rhythm.
She turned slightly, resting her elbow on the side panel and watching him. The way his eyes were half-closed, completely immersed, made him look...adorable.
A short laugh escaped her lips, and she brought her hand up to elegantly cover her mouth with the back of her fingers.
Enzo glanced at her sideways, his brow arching as the corners of his mouth twitched upward. "What?"
She shook her head. "Nothing."
Just then, the driver’s door opened, and Andrei slipped into the front seat. He buckled his seatbelt and reached for the ignition, turning it and starting the engine.
As he eased the Rolls Royce out of the garage and onto the estate’s driveway, the tall black gates at the end slowly began to open, revealing the stretch of road beyond.
Their car glided quietly through the narrow, single-lane road, its headlights cutting through the night. Tall, dense trees flanked both sides of the road, each leading into a small woods.
Inside the vehicle, Adeline held her phone to her ear, chuckling at something Evelyn had said. "Alright, Evelyn," she murmured, "I’ll see you later then."
With a swipe of her thumb, she ended the call, sliding the phone into the side pocket of her jeans. She leaned slightly toward the window, her elbow resting against the door as she looked out, watching the trees pass by in slow motion.
After a moment, she spoke without turning her head. "Why are the streets in this city always so lonely at night?"
When no answer came, she glanced to her side. Enzo was quiet, staring out his own window, his brows faintly furrowed as though he was lost in thought.
Curious, Adeline reached out and lightly patted his shoulder. "Enzo?"
He blinked, snapping out of whatever trance he’d fallen into. He turned toward her slowly, his blue eyes momentarily confused before recognition settled into them. "Yes, my love?" he asked, his voice soft, touched with distraction.
"What are you thinking about?"
Instead of answering, he reached towards her, his fingers brushing over her chest as he unfastened her seatbelt. Then he slipped his arm around her shoulder and gently pulled her closer, tucking her into his side before pressing a light kiss to the top of her head.
"It’s probably nothing," he said with a small smile, his thumb stroking along her upper arm. "But... I’m getting an odd feeling. Like something bad is going to happen. Ever since we left the estate, I’ve felt it." 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Her eyes lifted to his face, concern slowly spreading across her face. He saw it and gave her a quiet chuckle, shaking his head. Don’t worry, though. Like I said, it’s probably nothing."
Suddenly, the car jolted to a violent stop, the abrupt halt tilting both Adeline and Enzo forward in their seats.
Adeline’s hand shot out to press against the seat in front of them, catching herself, while Enzo braced with one hand on the door.
They both quickly turned their attention forward, and Enzo’s brows furrowed. "Andrei? What was that?"
Andrei, with his gaze locked on something ahead, pointed through the windshield. "Master Enzo..."
Enzo leaned forward, following the direction of his finger—and froze.
Just a few yards from them, shimmering faintly in the middle of the road, was a ripple in the air. It was circular and translucent, and it mirrored the road behind it. If it weren’t for the gentle shimmer and the way the edges moved, it would’ve been nearly invisible.
"A portal..." Enzo muttered. "What on earth is a portal doing here?" He reached down and unbuckled his seatbelt, and Andrei did the same.
Adeline’s eyes jumped from Enzo to Andrei, then finally to the portal, completely lost. Her brows knitted together as she leaned forward for a clearer look. She’d never seen anything like it. She’d obviously heard of portals before but never seen one herself or believed it even existed.
Just then, Enzo’s ears twitched. "Out. Now!" he commanded. He grabbed Adeline by the waist and flung the door open wide, leaping out of the car. They landed on the gravel shoulder of the road, Adeline cradled tightly in his arms as she instinctively clung to him.
A second later, Andrei burst from the front seat, landing beside them.
From beneath the Rolls Royce, metallic chains erupted with explosive force—thick, black-colored, and laced with unnatural energy. They cracked through the asphalt, twisting and slamming into the vehicle’s undercarriage with so much power that the entire car lifted off the ground, twisted mid-air before landing back down, and then rolled violently off the road.
