Sweet Revenge With My Billionaire Vampire-Chapter 22: We’ve Come To A Decision
The room fell silent as Damien’s head snapped up, locking his glare onto Nolan. He slammed his fists onto the table and rose to his full height. The force was so strong, it caused the spotlights that shone down on them to flicker. "Watch your tongue, Nolan. I am still the ruler of this world, and I can have you dealt with if you continue to disrespect me." 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Nolan, unshaken, pushed his chair back and stood up, spreading his arms and urging Damien to bring it on. "Are you threatening me, Damien?"
Before the tension could escalate further, Argilia rose gracefully, followed closely by Petrov. Julian, however, shrank deeper into his chair.
"Enough," she said sternly, her eyes darting between the two men. "Calm yourself. This is a council, not a battlefield."
She then turned her gaze to Damien. "And again, you should remember that your time as ruler is almost over. In less than ten months, you will step down, whether you like it or not."
Petrov nodded with a heavy sigh, his wrinkled hands resting on the table. "We have already reached a decision, Lord Damien."
"A decision? What decision?"
Petrov clasped his hands behind his back and sighed again, knowing that what he was about to say would anger Damien. "If Enzo does not return by the time you are to step down, we will have no choice but to appoint a new ruler. One from a different family."
Damien’s hands clenched into fists. He was struggling to contain his anger. "You can’t be serious," he said through gritted teeth, his pupils darting between the council members.
"We are," Argilia added. "We’ve already begun discussions about Petrov’s son. He’s a charming young man, well-suited for leadership."
Damien stared at the three of them for a moment, baffled. His gaze landed on Julian, who was sinking deeper into his chair, his expression that of a child caught in the middle of a fight. "Don’t look at me," Julian muttered, raising his hands in surrender. "I’m not part of this."
"How dare you? You cannot be serious. You’re willing to cast aside centuries of tradition because of a temporary absence?"
Argilia pushed her chair back, stepping to the side and smoothing the front of her dress. "We said what we said, and that’s final. Damien, in matters like this, you’d do well to remember that the council holds more power than even you."
With that, she turned and began walking toward the door at the back of the chamber. Petrov followed, and Nolan cast Damien one last disdainful look before trailing after them.
Julian hesitated, looking at Damien with pity. "Uh... good luck, Lord Damien. And...I’m sorry," he muttered awkwardly before hurrying after the others.
—----
Enzo’s eyes slowly opened, and he sat up from the couch, rubbing his forehead. His gaze shifted to the bed, where Adeline lay sprawled across the mattress. She looked like a disheveled angel with her tangled hair fanned out over the pillow. The blanket that had once covered her was now kicked halfway to the floor, leaving her exposed.
Shaking his head, Enzo stood and walked silently over to her. Bending down, he picked up the blanket and draped it over her again. Satisfied that she was deep in sleep, he turned and made his way to the corner of the room where the briefcases Andrei had brought to him earlier sat.
With a quick glance over his shoulder, Enzo picked up one of the black briefcases and slipped into the bathroom, locking the door behind him. He placed it on the counter and opened it, revealing a blood bag nestled inside, filled with dark red liquid. His throat burned with hunger at the sight, and his fangs elongated instinctively.
"Finally," he muttered to himself as he grabbed the bag, tearing it open. The scent of the blood hit him, causing his eyes to flutter and a groan to escape him. Quickly, he raised the blood-filled bag up to his lips and began to drink.
Halfway through, a sudden knock on the bathroom door startled him, causing him to flinch and spill a small amount of blood onto the counter.
"Enzo?" Adeline’s sleepy voice called from the other side of the door, followed by a yawn. "Are you in there? I need to use the bathroom."
Enzo sighed, facepalming in frustration. Of all times, she had to wake up now. He quickly wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, his fangs retracting as he struggled to compose himself. "Just a moment, princess. I’ll be out soon."
Adeline groaned, leaning her forehead against the door. "Fine, but hurry up. And wake me up when you’re done," she mumbled before shuffling back to the bed.
He listened intently as her footsteps retreated, followed by the sound of her collapsing back onto the bed. Letting out a quiet sigh of relief, he scanned the bathroom for something to clean with.
His eyes landed on two large white towels folded neatly on the rack.
"No. I can’t use this."
Instinctively, he patted down his pajama pockets, and his fingers brushed against a small lump. He reached in, pulling out a small cloth he didn’t remember placing there, and carefully began wiping up the spilled blood, ensuring every trace was gone. When he was done, he folded the cloth and stuffed it back into his pocket before snapping the briefcase shut.
After one last glance to confirm the bathroom was spotless, Enzo stepped out. He glanced towards the bed and saw that Adeline was already back asleep. While her soft snores filled the room, Enzo sighed with relief, running a hand through his hair.
He couldn’t even imagine what would happen if Adeline had walked in on him drinking blood. Where would he even start explaining from? It’s not like anyone would believe he was a vampire and not some freak who enjoys drinking human blood.
He slightly lifted the briefcase to stop at his waist, glancing down at it with a raised brow. "Hm..."
He moved to the couch and set it down before grabbing his phone and typing out a quick message. Moments later, a knock came at the door.
Rising from the couch, Enzo picked up both briefcases and moved towards the entrance. He opened the door just enough to reveal Andrei standing there with his head slightly bowed.
"You called, Boss," Andrei said in a low voice, trying to avoid waking up Adeline.
Enzo nodded and handed him the briefcases. "Take these. It’s too risky to keep them here."
Andrei accepted the cases without question and bowed once more before turning to leave.
