Chapter 48: A Major evolution! a duo again

Oliver sat by one of the many large ridges in the volcanic-like battlefield. He rested his back against the jagged rock while scrolling through his system, reviewing his improvements.

"It’s going to get tougher from here on out, so it would be better if I invest all my stat points."

[Stats]

[Name: Oliver Mori]

[Exp: 32/3000]

[Level: 14]

[Talent: SSS Rank Summoner]

[Attributes]

[Strength: 16]

[Agility: 21]

[Senses: 15]

[Mana: 15]

[Stat Points: 16]

[Karma Points: 380]

[Evolution Karma Points: 400]

[Life Worm: 70%]

Oliver groaned, patting his chest as he stared at the percentage of the Life Worm’s refinement. "At this pace, it’ll take millions to get truly great relics."

Then his gaze shifted to his attributes. Up until now, he had prioritized agility above all else, neglecting the rest of his stat points. While Mana had little use to him, since he wasn’t a mage and his assassin skills didn’t rely on it. Only relic usage would eventually make it relevant.

Senses, on the other hand, seemed almost useless... unless tied to rare abilities or specialized relics.

’So for now, I’ve only got two major attributes that actually favor my assassin class... agility and strength.’

"Even so, I can’t neglect the others until I have proper use for them," Oliver muttered, recalling individuals who had acquired relics that maximized their senses, turning them into near-untouchable entities—ghosts that could perceive danger before it even existed.

If he could find such a relic, it would be a perfect addition to his assassin class.

[Attributes]

[Strength: 21]

[Agility: 27]

[Senses: 17]

[Mana: 18]

[Stat Points: 0]

The changes coursed through his body. Though subtle, they were undeniable. His limbs felt lighter, his muscles more responsive, and beneath it all lay a quiet surge of power—coiled, waiting.

The air around him felt sharper.

More dangerous.

Then he called the Devious Snake, pulling it away from its work of devouring the charred corpses of the fallen Cerberus.

[Would you like to perform Major Evolution?]

[Yes] [No]

Oliver recalled the first main evolution he had gone through with the Crow. The memory alone was enough to make him cautious. If this was anything similar, then rushing in blindly would be suicide.

So he summoned the Crow as well.

"If anything happens, it’s up to you to protect me."

The Crow let out a sharp caw, its dark feathers ruffling as it stood firm—like a soldier prepared to march into war. It would gladly lay down its life for him.

Satisfied, Oliver turned back to the Devious Snake and accepted the system’s condition.

In the next moment, a blinding light erupted around the snake as it trembled violently. Its body twisted, coiling into itself in a tight spiral, scales grinding against each other with a faint, unsettling sound.

Then... the transformation began.

Crystalline white material started forming around the coiled snake, thin at first, like frost creeping over glass. But with each passing second, it thickened, spreading rapidly, encasing the creature entirely.

The structure expanded.

Hardened.

Until finally—

It became a massive, thick egg.

Rough. Dense. Pulsing faintly.

About the size of Oliver’s entire leg.

"What the hell is this?" Oliver muttered, pushing himself upright. He stepped closer and pressed his palm against its surface.

It was cold.

Unnaturally so.

And solid.

"Don’t tell me you devolved into an egg," he mocked, knocking on it a few times with his knuckles.

The Crow cawed loudly, almost as if laughing at his conclusion.

[Major Evolution: Takes more time than minor evolution, as it alters the summon on a large scale. The body structure and abilities of the summon may either increase greatly... or devolve if the process fails.]

Oliver let out a strained groan. "Great. You explain that to me after the deed is done."

If that was the case, leaving the egg here wasn’t an option. This was the post-apocalyptic zone of the second level, danger lurked in every shadow, and anything unattended would either be destroyed... or worse, stolen.

He tried storing it in his system.

Ding!

[Foreign material detected: Failure of the evolution may risk corruption of your system.]

Oliver gave an awkward smile. "How comforting."

So now he couldn’t even store his own summon.

’This is already becoming a headache.’

Oliver hissed softly as a ring wove itself into his palm, forming from thin strands of light.

[Storage Ring Equipped]

"You’re lucky I got this off Jarvis for free," Oliver muttered, slipping it on. He stretched out his hand as a ray of light shot from the ring, enveloping the egg before pulling it into the infinite storage space within.

For a moment—

The ring grew heavier.

Not slightly.

Violently.

"Damn!" Oliver’s arm dropped abruptly as the weight spiked, as though he was holding a collapsing star. Then, just as quickly, it stabilized. Returning to its original state.

Even the storage ring had nearly malfunctioned.

He grumbled, flexing his fingers as he adjusted it properly. "You better become a damned dragon. If not... you’ll make a very good barbecue."

With that ordeal out of the way, Oliver turned toward the Dark Castle.

He pulled back the dark hood from his head, revealing long strands of black hair that flowed with the heated wind of the abyss. The air carried the scent of ash and burning stone, brushing against his skin like a warning. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

The Dark Crow cawed beside him, its gaze locked onto the looming structure ahead with equal anticipation.

"It’s just you and me again, buddy."

Twin blades of Racell formed in his grasp, their edges gleaming faintly under the dim, hellish light.

"Let’s get the job done."
