Chapter 47: Another grind! a major evolution

[You have reached the second Level of the Fallen Realm of Gods]

[Welcome player to the Dark Castle]

Oliver’s body reformed from sparks of shimmering light, and there he stood, perched atop a black jagged boulder, the wind howling as it carried hot ash across his face.

"Just as I remember it," Oliver said to himself, his gaze sweeping across the environment.

Black volcanic ash stretched endlessly. Jagged rocks jutted from the ground at unnatural angles. The terrain was uneven, fractured with craters littering the land as though a catastrophic war had taken place here years ago, leaving behind only ruin and silence.

But more importantly—

It was the castle.

The black obsidian structure loomed in the distance like a fallen god. Massive and Oppressive. Its sides were cracked and worn, its towers broken and leaning.

That was the Dark Castle.

Oliver’s goal.

But the moment his boots settled firmly against the obsidian boulder—

The ground trembled.

A low rumble spread like a warning, vibrating through the air. Then came the explosions.

Violent and Relentless.

Like thunder cracking beneath the earth itself.

And then—

BOOOM!

The ground ruptured in dozens of places across the forsaken battlefield. Black earth burst apart, sending ash and debris spiraling into the air.

Something was coming out.

Massive purple arms clawed their way to the surface. Silver talons tore through stone as hulking bodies dragged themselves upward.

One.

Two.

Ten.

Dozens of them.

Each creature resembled a canine, but grotesquely distorted. Towering bodies, rippling with muscle. Three heads. Six glowing eyes burning with hunger.

[Ding!]

[Name: Ceberus]

[Rank: B-rank]

Oliver smiled.

A slow, dangerous smile and without hesitation, he summoned the twin silver blades of Racell into his grasp. The metal gleamed faintly, already thirsting.

Then—

Darkness twisted beside him.

The Dark Crow materialized in a swirl of shadowed feathers, its wings spreading wide as it let out a piercing screech.

At the same time, the Devious Snake slithered into existence—its body longer, sleeker... and now gleaming like forged metal, its scales reflecting a deadly sheen.

"Let’s end these bastards!" Oliver said, launching forward.

The battlefield erupted into motion.

Oliver reached the first Ceberus in a blink.

The three-headed beast reared up, letting out a thunderous roar before slamming both massive paws down toward him.

BOOM!

The impact shattered the ground. But Oliver was already gone.

He sidestepped at the last possible moment, the wind pressure grazing his face. In one fluid motion, he drove the blade of Racell upward—

—straight into the throat of the beast.

Shhk!

The blade sank deep.

The Ceberus jolted violently, all three heads spasming as the poison coursed instantly through its veins. Its limbs buckled, and it collapsed...

Dead.

Another lunged, Jaws wide, and it’s rows of dagger-like teeth shown.

Crunch!

Before it could reach him, the Dark Crow descended like a shadow of death. Its massive claws clamped onto the beast’s neck—

CRACK!

Bone shattered under it’s pressure.

Then the Ceberus went limp mid-lunge, its body slamming lifelessly into the ground.

"Nice one, Crow!" Oliver called out.

He ducked low as another claw swept toward him, feeling the air split just inches above his head. Pivoting, he drove his knee upward—

THUD!

The force slammed into the beast’s abdomen, making it convulse and stagger backward.

Without hesitation—

He hurled Racell.

The blade cleaving through the air and piercing straight into one of its eye sockets.

The Ceberus shrieked and dropped.

"Gurrrgh!" Oliver jerked his head to the side barely avoiding a claw that grazed his cheek, drawing a thin line of blood.

Another beast leapt over him, aiming for his skull.

"Damn!" He grunted dropping low and rolling beneath it as it crashed into the ground behind him.

Then—

Two more charged.

Fast.

Ferocious.

"Oh shit!" Oliver stepped back, just enough to escape their range and then...

"Snake!" he called.

The Devious Snake responded instantly.

It launched through the air like a living spear and collided with one of the Ceberus.

BOOM!

The sheer impact drove the massive beast into the ground, sending dust and shattered rock flying.

The creature struggled to rise again, but it was too late.

The snake sank its fangs deep into its side it’s venom immediately taking effect.

The beast trembled... swayed... and then collapsed.

Dead.

The second hound reached Oliver.

This time—

He didn’t move.

He waited.

And at the last possible moment—

He sidestepped avoiding the jaws of the hound that snapped shut inches from his face.

Then—

Slash!

Racell carved cleanly through its neck in a single, decisive motion.

Blood sprayed.

"Fuck you bastard!" Oliver followed with a brutal kick chucking the body of the Hound crashing into two incoming ones, knocking them off balance.

Now—

It became a massacre. Now that Oliver and his summons had fully read the fighting pattern of the Hounds.

It was finished now.

Oliver moved like a phantom.

A demon.

Even when the horde began to overwhelm him, he activated Stealth, his body vanishing into the chaos.

The Ceberus hesitated confused and Searching.

And that single moment of uncertainty—

Was death.

The Dark Crow tore through the skies, diving and ripping apart exposed necks. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

The Devious Snake weaved between bodies, striking from blind spots, leaving behind only poisoned corpses.

And Oliver—

He used Short Burst.

Blitzing from one target to another.

Each strike precise.

Each wound fatal.

He didn’t even need to finish them.

As a single deep cut from the unforgiving Racell was enough.

It’s poison did the rest.

One after another—

They fell.

Silence.

Heavy.

Thick silence, covered the air.

Oliver stood in the aftermath, breathing hard. His body hunched slightly as he pulled Racell from the final grotesque corpse before him.

The battlefield was unrecognizable.

Piles of bodies.

Endless blood soaking into the cracked earth.

The scent of death hung in the air.

"This scene..." he muttered.

"It reminds me of my last life. When I massacred a group of Awakeners like myself. That time was a different condition, but..."

He raised his bloodied hands, staring at them.

Scarred.

Shaking from exhaustion.

Covered in both his blood and that of the fallen.

His gaze shifted to his summons.

The Dark Crow... its shadowy feathers now stained crimson.

The Devious Snake... its metallic body slick with blood, its presence colder, sharper.

It had done well.

No—

It had been intelligent.

Calculated.

Devious.

Just like its master.

The snake had navigated the battlefield with precision, striking where it mattered, letting its venom do the killing. It was the true demon in this battle, as it managed to handle more Of the horde than even the Dark Crow.

Oliver exhaled slowly.

"Nice... we leveled up."

"And it seems skills can level up now... probably thanks to the evolution to Bronze Assassin." Oliver could only wonder how the next Evolution would be, when he got to level 20.

The thought lingered.

But for now—

He turned to the Devious Snake.

[Devious Snake has new improvements]

[Major evolution]

Oliver’s brows lifted.

"Major evolution?"
