Tangled Hearts - The Alpha's Baby Mama-Chapter 149: I would roll in diamonds...

Selene POV

Holding her seething glare for one final beat, I brushed past her without a backward glance. "The next month will be a reckoning for one of us," I called over my shoulder. "I can hardly wait to see who emerges as the victor,". I continued down the corridor towards the girls’ room leaving Brooke to stew over the gauntlet I’d thrown at her feet.

A part of me recognized how deeply I was doubling down; how dangerous the whole situation could escalate but I also knew Brooke was the one living in delusions as she thought she could make a fool out of me. Noah and I may have a lot of obstacles to overcome, betrayals and scars that ran bone-deep... but I would damn if I surrendered my status and self-respect to her without a fight to the bitter end.

She was a wild card I had not anticipated and I know women like her are ready to hang around for the rest of their lives if actions are not taken to permanently take them out of the scene. I will forgive Noah for his cheating because he was the King in my game of chess and I needed him badly. As for Brooke, she best prepares herself for just how viciously I could play when properly motivated.

I arrived at the girls’ room and took a moment to gather my emotions and whatever remnants of the confrontation I just had with Brooke. I also knew I was late and could almost imagine Noah’s face at that moment but my children were my world too.

As I raised my hands to knock, the door opened to reveal the girls and their nannies, Brenna and Faustina. they were all dressed in coats and hand gloves against the chilly weather. When the nannies saw me, they immediately bowed in acknowledgement. I nodded in acceptance and turned to the girls.

"Are you guys heading somewhere? You’re all dressed up," I said taking in their attires. It wasn’t something casual too that they could wear around the house. They looked like they were going out of the pack house. I searched my brain trying to remember if they had told me about going out today but everything was coming up blank.

"Yes, your majesty...," Brenna responded. "The children have a play date today organized by their school and we’re heading there. So sad you couldn’t come but we hope you don’t mind us standing in for you and also we prepared some gifts on your behalf both for the children and the teachers present.

"Am I supposed to be there?" I asked as my eyes widened with surprise. "Did you tell me about this or something?" I asked again staring at them incredulously. The girls were already shaking their heads, arms crossed over their chests. They didn’t look pleased and at that point, I knew they must have mentioned it to me but as usual, I forgot again.

"We’ve been telling you since the beginning of this month, Mom," Vina who was always on my side spoke. She had an angry expression on her face "We also reminded you last week and the other week and almost every day and you keep promising to go but half the time you’re either not listening to us or you have your eyes glued on your phone. Do you not like us anymore?"

My heart hammered against my chest with fright at her words. Today was not going to be a good day. Remind me not to ever start my day with an angry Noah.

"See, I told you, Vina... she doesn’t care about us. We’re just her children and she’s, our mother. Everyone’s parents would be attending but you couldn’t even try to remember and as usual, you choose Alpha Noah over us. If Dad had not been sick, I know he would have come," Maeve said calmly staring at me. We were back to our cat and dog relationship.

"Oh, darlings!" I sighed and squatted in front of them "I’m so sorry my loves and you’re more important to me than anything in this world. You know what, I was supposed to go do something but I’ll just cancel it and go come with you guys. Give me a few minutes to make a few calls and we’ll be on our merry way," I smiled at them and straightened up to reach for my phone in my purse when Vina shook her head and placed one of her hands on my arm.

"You know that’s impossible. You’re supposed to see the counsellor with Alpha Noah this morning. I wonder why you’re here and not with them already. Did you fight with him again?"

"Fight with him again?" My eyes widened with shock "What are you talking about and how in the moon’s name do you know about the counsellor? Who told you guys?"

"Your Beta..." Maeve chirped in "She’s very nice to us and plays with us all the time too. She told us that your marriage to Alpha Noah is on the rocks because of a little misunderstanding and you invited a counsellor to come help you fix it. She also said that you’ve not been nice to him of late and a lot of things that we cannot remember,".

My heart was pounding so loud that I was scared it would pop out of my chest and fall to the ground. What has Brooke been feeding my children with? Most importantly why was she trying to paint a grim picture of me?

I turned to the nannies "Where were both of you when she came to play with the girls?" I queried trying not to raise my voice "Why would you sit and allow her to have such adult conversation with the children and you do nothing about it?"

"We’re sorry Your Majesty!" Faustina said lowering her gaze "It’s just that she’s a daughter of a pack elder and also your Beta, we don’t exactly have the power to tell her off. We tried several times and we were punished. Regarding the issue about you going to see the counsellor with his majesty, everyone in the pack is aware. We’re also aware that you were with the girls’ father last night,".

I reeled back with shock. This was Brooke’s doing and as usual, I had underestimated her. If she is going to air my dirty linen in public, I would do much worse. Taking a deep breath, I faced the nannies again...

"Starting from today, I do not want to see Brooke anywhere near the girls, tell her I said so. If she insists, I don’t care whatever you do but use any means available to prevent that, don’t worry I’ll help you both out. By the way, where is Princess Jade these days?"

"She’s around your majesty," Brenna replied. "Do you want an audience with her?" she asked.

"Yes, please but that will be when I’m done with today’s session. It’s been a while since I saw her and as the Luna of Moon Whisper, I need to know how she’s doing,".

If Brooke wants to roll in the mud, I’ll teach her that I would do much worse only, I would roll in diamonds and not mud but the effect will be more brutal than anything.
