Noah POV

"You know for a moment, I wanted to drown myself in ecstasy that you truly came to check up on me and not another avenue to come beg for a favour. Do you think I am a fool, Selene? In your wildest imaginations does it seem that I do not know what I am doing? Is that what it seems to you because you have to let me know what makes you so brazen to the point that you don’t give a damn if you’re wounding my heart with everything you do,".

"For moon’s sake, Noah!" she sighed, haven’t we had enough of this argument today? Are you not tired of saying the same thing repeatedly? What do you want from me that will prove to you that I truly care about you and that this narrative you have of me in your head that I am a leech is false,".

"Wow!" I swallowed hard with a scoff "It’s alright, my dear. Tell Xavier I said No! no amount of begging from him or anyone else would change my mind and also told him to stop sending people to me. I am already pissed as it is, another more messenger from him and I might have to add to his sentence since it seems I didn’t do enough,".

"Don’t be insensitive, Noah," Selene sighed "He says that if Jared is made to rule over the Coalition that a lot of unpleasant things will happen. Shouldn’t you try to listen to reasons first before you conclude,".

"And I told you, Selene, I am done with that Chapter. I think you have to leave right now. I am tired and would like to rest. I’ll see you tomorrow at 9 am. Please do not be late. If you need anything, just ask Reid... he will be more than happy to help you,".

I rose to my feet and crossed the room to the door which I opened and held it slightly ajar. I didn’t want to give her any other option but to leave. She eyed me with disbelief at my actions probably but after shaking her head for a few seconds, she pranced past me and walked out of the room.

I sighed with relief and quickly rushed to the bathroom, then knocked thrice on the door. A second later, I heard the lock of the bathroom click open and Brooke’s angry face stared at me. She had both hands on her hips and thankfully I was also angry too.

"I thought you said you were going to make me your consort, why did you push me inside the bathroom? Don’t you think more than anyone, Selene should first be aware that we’ve taken our relationship a step further," she said.

I ignored her, closing the distance between us "Why did you have to lie to Selene? Why did you tell her that we had sex this morning? What has come over you? I told you that I am trying to fix my marriage and you want to keep doing this?"

"I’m sorry!" she yelled as tears pooled in her eyes "I was angry, frustrated and she was in my face at that moment. I didn’t know what to do. I was so mad with everything that had been happening so far. The thing is..." a tear rolled down her cheek "I feel used... I feel in your head you need to sleep with me to realize that you love your wife so much and is trying to fight for it too. Would you truly make me a consort because I’m desperate here, Noah... I love you so much that I’ll be a mistress even if I have to just lay a tiny claim on you. Please..." she sobbed.

Now the thing with Brooke is her ability to mask her true intentions behind tears. Our relationship in the past has taught me that she could be on another man and still cry and tell me so beautifully that I am the only man she ever wants. In order not to fall victim the second time, I know I have to play along. At least long enough to get her out of my room.

"We had sex, Brooke and I very much initiated it but I do not see you as less of the amazing woman you are and I cannot also lie to you that I do not regret it because I cheated on my wife, something I never envisioned I would do in this life. So, I hope you can understand why I am insisting on us keeping our distance until Selene forgives me and hopefully, we get our marriage back on track,".

"Okay!" she nodded wiping the tears in her eyes "I’ll leave now and also give you all the space you want but don’t make me wait too long, Noah... you know patience was never my forte and not having you every day is the worst kind of torture anyone can ever go through,".

"It’s fine," I nodded and moved to the door again "I won’t keep you waiting for long, I promise," I said and opened the door. When she was almost leaving, I remembered I wanted to tell her something. "One more thing, Brooke!" I reached for her hand stopping her "The office of the Luna has been finally approved and will resume effective from today, so please I want you to be on your best behaviour with Selene. I don’t want to hear that both of you are fighting or something,".

"We are not kids, Noah!" she scoffed "Besides, I’m strictly about business. Since the pay is good and the benefits are to die for, I will do anything to keep it. It’s Selene you need to caution too. She would come for me,".

"Don’t worry," I patted her hands comfortingly, steering her towards the door again. She had stylishly slipped back in "Now have a wonderful evening, I’ll see you later," I said with a smile and held my breath as she walked out of the door. As soon as she was clear, I sighed in relief, feeling a weighty load being lifted off my shoulders.

I went back to my bed and collapsed on it. Immediately, I felt Reid trying to mind-link me and I connected. "Your majesty," he said.

"Yeah!" I responded "What is it now? And make it snappy Reid, I am so tired and I truly would like to rest. I’ve not gotten a lot since today. So, straight to the point but first, before that, how is cleaning up of Selene’s office going? And where is she at the moment?"

"That is what I was calling to tell you. The cleaning up is going so well," Reid started "She’s with the interior decorator and is trying to tell her what she needs to be done in the office and all the things she wants to change also. They’ll be done soon with the cleaning and I think she’ll head over there again. I saw her meeting with the girls’ nanny, Faustina and Brenna briefly. I didn’t hear all of what they said but I overheard the word meeting point or something. What should I do regarding that?"

"How about Xavier and Kurtis?" I ignored his question first promising to answer it later. I needed to know that she wasn’t with Xavier. I just mentioned Kurtis’s name as a matter of fact and not because I care so much about him. It was Xavier I was concerned.

"Except a few minutes ago, when Xavier met here, none of them have approached her since then and after she left you, she came straight to the office to check on the progress so far but her mind seems to be elsewhere because she’s constantly checking her phone but I have a hunch she’s anxious about going out with those women again to the lower town," Reid said.

"That’s okay, Reid... ask someone to tail her and also send a few of your men to protect her in case of any eventuality and you should sit this one out. If she sees you again, she would know that she’s being tailed and truly, I don’t want her to think so. Selene is very smart,".

"Okay, Alpha," he nodded "You should also see Xavier, please... he desperately wants to talk to you. if he doesn’t find someone that can get across to you, he will come to me and I wouldn’t want to say No to him,"

"I’ll see him tomorrow, Reid," I grunted "He’s my nephew after all but for today, I want him to realize how powerless he is and know that I am not one he should have as an enemy. I am his uncle and also his King... he should respect me the most. By the way, could you get someone to look into Alpha Jared’s background? The person might not find anything because he most probably would stop anyone from accessing it but do not spare our resources, use it at your disposal... there’s a nice way to get rid of people like him without using force. I don’t think he deserves it,".

"As you wish your Majesty," Reid grunted.

"Then, I will rest. Please, it is very important, I do not want to be disturbed, I need to sleep now more than anything or else, I will automatically stop functioning. I’ll reach out to you as soon as I come alive, okay?"
