Xavier POV

I rushed to my mother sprawled on the ground and lifted her trying to console her. The rest of the people in the hall were frozen and looked around dazedly. It was a clear indication that they were as shocked as I was... even though his defence for Selene was unexpected it was his going against grandfather that left me speechless.

My eyes travelled to where my grandfather was sitting regally, his expression as calm as the stream. It was difficult for me to know if he was angry with Noah or not. The pack elders and officials all clustered in front of him, I could see worry on their faces as they waited for my grandfather to say something.

But after a while, he simply rose to his feet and started towards the door.

"Grand Lycan," the most vocal of the elders ran towards him "Are you just going to leave without saying anything? Tell us what to do and we will carry it out with all of our hearts. The Lycan King has brought disrespect to you and us, there must be something we can do that will serve as a warning to everyone,".

"You heard the King," my grandfather said quietly "This matter ends here,".

"But..." some of the elders surged forward with surprise on their faces but one cold look from my grandfather made them swallow their words.

"Let’s return to our homes, the matter ends today and I hope in the future no one tries to bring it up. We must always be accountable to the King and if he says a matter is over... it is. Thank you all for your concern,".

He walked out of the hall. I carried the phones and my mom outside the hall and just as we had walked a little distance from the hall, I saw Beta Reid waiting for me. He was leaning against the wall when he saw me approaching, he pushed away from the wall and started walking towards me.

He murmured a greeting to my mom before he faced me "His Majesty said I should collect something from you. Where is it?" he stretched his hand towards me.

Rolling my eyes, I pulled out the phones stacked inside a small leather bag and handed it to him together with the bag. Without another word to me, he turned and continued towards Noah’s office. Together with my mom, we went back to my room. As we got to the door, I picked up my father’s scent.

When I opened the door, sure enough, it was him and he was standing in front of the French window gazing into the mid-afternoon sun.

"Dad?" I called letting my mom go as I rushed towards him. I’ve not seen my dad for a while now and since my recovery, I’ve been so busy that I couldn’t visit his pack, so this was the first time I was seeing him for almost 5 years.

I was not the spitting image of my father but it was possible to see us and know that we are father and son. He turned and when he saw it was me, the corners of his eyes crinkled into a smile, showing off his dimpled chin, something I always wished I inherited from him as a child.

Even at this age, he was still a head turner and because of his beauty, he and my mom were constantly clashing. It was no news he wasn’t a faithful partner. He is free-spirited, has a great sense of humor and the ladies loved him so much but he loves my mom and never has any of his affairs gotten in the way of their matrimony.

"Hey Son," he rushed towards me enclosing me in a hug "I didn’t know you were here and I can’t believe that this is you. How are you doing?" he rushed on.

"I’m doing fine dad," I chuckled "Much better now. What are you doing here? I thought you always hated mom’s drama,".

"Well, I just came to keep an eye on her in case she tries to do something stupid. At this point in our lives, we should just be happy at what life throws at us and you know... flow with the tide. Your mom is yet to understand that,".

He brushes past me to my mom who was pacing the room, and biting at her fingers at the same time. From the tension on her shoulders, it was clear that she was having one of those anxiety attacks which she always did. She would stop every now and again and mutter unintelligible words. But what was more concerning was my dad’s comment. Why was he here to stop my mom from doing something stupid? My mom doesn’t do stupid things.

I watched with conflicted emotions as she continued murmuring to herself. My mom started suffering from anxiety after I got my wolf and turned 18. At that time, all the doctors they went to only had one thing to say and it was I was going to die and I had few months left. It turned her into a nervous wreck because she wouldn’t be able to give birth after me and giving your husband an heir, especially since he was an Alpha was more important than anything.

It worsened after my dad started his numerous affairs and she was always scared that I would die and a woman would show up with a male pup and claim that my father was responsible for it. Seeing her like this tore my heart. Before I could make a move towards her, my father was already by her side.

"Nora, you need to calm yourself," he said in a measured, practiced, patient tone. He was familiar with crises like this. Though I could detect the tiredness in his voice "Did you come with your pills for your nerves? Where is your bag, let me find them for you,".

"Calm?!" My mom scoffed whirling to face my dad, her eyes were glowing with rage "How can I remain calm when that bastard has poisoned Noah’s heart towards us. She’s trying to tear our family apart. Noah disrespected dad in the presence of the whole pack officials and elders and you want me to remain calm?"

"Let me get you something for you nerves first then you tell me all about it," my dad said soothingly and tried to move when my mom grabbed his hands, as she looked up at him with pleading eyes

"You have to punish Selene, Paul..." tears welled up in her eyes "You have to make her suffer and miserable so that she can leave Noah alone. Noah never tells me No... he always listened to me but since he married that bitch... our lives have never been the same. You know I can’t stand things not being in order. I hate,".

"Baby..." my dad tried to pull her into his arms but she wiggled out of it "Let’s get you calm first and you can tell me everything. I promise, we’ll take action. You know I will always do anything you tell me to do,".

"You don’t!" my mom yelled taking a half-step towards my dad who held his ground despite her aggression. "I begged you to come with me to Moon Whisper but you refused something about not getting involved in our family drama but do you have any idea what that bitch did?"

"Easy with the words, Nora, she’s the mother to our lovely grandkids and was once Xavier’s mate. You should respect her. Besides, she isn’t the one who asked Noah to do anything. Noah is a grown adult and I know for a fact that he’s also an impartial leader that will not let emotions get in the way of his judgement,".

"Impartial leader my foot!" my mom shrieked then threw her head backwards laughing hysterically "She convinced Noah to humiliate and strip Xavier of his position as the Coalition leader. Then she made him turn against Dad. He chooses to humiliate our father instead of punishing her. We should have her punished and put in her place.
