Kurtis POV

"Let me go!" I yelled pushing away from him.

Everything had happened so fast, that I didn’t have the chance to do anything before he snatched me out of Selene’s room.

"Is that the thanks I get from saving you from death this morning?" he scoffed "A minute more, Noah would have caught you in his wife’s bedroom and the last time I checked, you and him are not friends exactly. It’s enough that his nephew gives him a tough time... then you? Come on Kurtis, you and I know he’s not going to be as lenient he is with you as he is with Xavier,".

"Your point?" I lashed out.

"I saved your life and now you owe me," he chuckled and spread his hands to the sky "It feels so good to be myself after centuries of waiting. I don’t know if it’s safe to say that Selene is my good luck charm because since I met her, life has been pretty steady and not as bleak as it used to be,".

"On that topic," I drew closer to him "What kind of pact did you enter with Selene? I learned that you’re the King of Death and everyone knows you never give anything for free. So, what exactly did you force Selene to sign?"

"You must love Selene so well to be worried about her," he laughed "Relax, Kurtis... all of my business transactions with Selene were purely all the things she wanted. I didn’t force her... I don’t force people to do what they don’t want to by the way and as for what we signed, it’s strictly between us. So, I’m sorry but I cannot tell you anything except she permits me to tell you,".

I took in deep breaths trying not to get riled up by the amused smile he had on his face. He was enjoying everything and I knew the more I stayed here, the more I’d keep humoring him.

"Thank you for saving me today, Kragen," I said quietly straightening my clothes I don’t owe you anything because I didn’t ask to be saved but I appreciate everything you’ve done and I’d like to leave first,".

"You cannot leave, Kurtis," he gave me a cold smile "I thought I mentioned that you owe me a debt and you must pay it or else, I’ll look for something that’s the most important to you and take it instead. Anyway, I’m sure you understand how this works, so I don’t need to explain it over and over again.

"Then be my guest, Kragen!" I chuckled "The one thing I cherished the most is dead and I don’t give a fuck about anyone these days so you won’t find it and I also know you cannot harm me because the debt will not be repaid by killing me. I told you I didn’t ask to be saved. I would have found a way out,".

"Who says I am talking about today’s incident, Kurtis?" The corners of his mouth lifted into a sneer "I am talking about a long time ago when you were 16th precisely and was whooped so bad by the Delta you were staying with. You were already ill so the beating worsened your illness and you nearly died but I was so distraught about your story and how you were an orphan and how alone you were. So, I had no other choice but to spare your life,".

"Again!" I sighed "I didn’t ask you to spare my life. Because if I had died that time, I wouldn’t need to go through the stress that I am facing currently. So, you didn’t do me a favour... I hate my life now,".

"You are predictable, Kurtis," he chuckled "I told the moon goddess a while ago that you were the most complicated person I’ve ever seen. You do not wear your emotions and you live on your terms. Free-spirited and I envy you a lot because we have power as gods to do what we like but we still have a lot of rules to follow to keep us in check now and again but it’s not the same for you all,".

"That was insightful," I nodded my head staring at my wristwatch I needed to go. "I need to check up on my men sent to Moon Whisper last night and change them also. So, you see, even if Noah had caught me in Selene’s bedroom doing absolutely nothing except popping in to greet the queen since I was in the area, he would do me nothing,".

"I have Clairvoyance, Kurtis," Kragen smiled "You more than anyone should know that by now. Noah has not been in the right mood for a while and for him to get out of that mood, he will need a scapegoat and you, my dear Kurtis would have served perfectly as one. Anyways, I want us to make a deal,".

"A deal?" I laughed "Are you trying to pull my legs or didn’t your clairvoyance tell you that I will not be making any kind of deal with you?"

"You will agree eventually because if you don’t, I will have to tell Selene why you’re helping her. You’re hoping that Selene and Xavier will get back together somehow because their union will benefit you. You share almost the same fate with them only that yours is not a curse and their union will activate your ability to become an Elemental Wolf. Meaning, you can seize the powers of the heavens and everything connected to it in one way or the other. Also, I know a lot of people are in desperate search for you... Alpha Jared..." He paused and looked at me.

"Yeah, the new Easter Alpha Coalition Leader is in desperate search for you and the reason why he needs to get Xavier out of the way and seize his pack it’s because the resources needed to activate your power aside from the couple falling in love with each other is there. Anyway, I won’t bore you with long details but imagine what Selene would do when she finds out that you are behind Brooke sleeping with Noah. Don’t worry, I may not be able to say all the words you told her that day but thankfully, I can play them to her, so she doesn’t say it’s made up,".

"Also," he smacked his lips "And your whole farce of making the people not worship the moon goddess will not work. You cannot turn away the people from their beliefs. I know you’re hoping to get the power and prove to them that they don’t need the Moon goddess and go live the kind they want,".

"It is not a farce!" I retorted "The moon goddess does nothing to help. All she does is play favourites and, in the end, take your joy away and happiness. There’s no certainty with her. After all, she knows all the packs but how can she stand by and watch them die one after the other? Where was she when Leonard Carrell deployed troops to my pack and killed off everyone because my dad was too drunk to soothe his ego? He didn’t even stop to think of the innocent people who had no idea that he had met with the Alpha and do you know the story they churned out... those rogues attacked the pack and there’s another version that says I am a killer,".

"It is not the responsibility of the moon goddess to make choices or decisions for you. When you’re born, you are put on a path and you must run it with the decisions you make. She has no business trying to stop you from making that mistake. That’s not how it works up there,".

"Well, you lot can go to hell and you dare not tell Selene..." tears gathered at the corner of my eyes "I am not a very kind person, Lord Kragen. I grew up in living conditions that no child deserves to stay but I survived it all and I like to think of myself as a better person because I didn’t allow my childhood trauma to get the best of me and so far, I’ve managed perfectly,".

"Is that why you don’t want to take a mate? Are you scared that you won’t be a good father? That you will one day make the same mistake as your dad... drink into a stupor and start hitting your children? Is that why you plan to make yourself sterile...".

"Fuck you, Kragen!" my vision was red as I stared at him hating him for picking my brain apart.

"I know you have a lot of concerns but you’re going it the wrong way. This is your path of creating a world where justice would be meted... even the most difficult of it all but the world doesn’t work like that, Kurtis... the reason why good exists is because of evil. If there was no evil in the world, we would never know what it means to be good. So, I will come another time I tell you my proposition but for now, you need to stop hurting yourself,".
