"I pride myself in always being right about everything, Selene," The Grand Lycan chuckled softly "And Noah is going to very much regret when he brings those men back to the Pack. They’ll ruin him and you too but it won’t be my fault... I told him so and like always he refuses to listen,".

"So, you will stand and watch them ruin Noah? But he’s your son, Your Majesty. Your flesh and your blood... I know he has offended you in so many ways but you’d rather let a stranger do that to him? Come on, where is your sense of decency?"

"Thrown into the abyss where it already was from the get-go," the Grand Lycan replied "I warned Noah about you... You’re a wonderful woman, smart for the most part, beautiful and maybe kind-hearted but you’re not suited for a queen even now that I see it, Noah can never make a good Lycan King. The rigours of ruling over Alphas are not simple and one must always never break one rule...".

"What are you trying to say?" I pursued my lips, trying to gauge his intentions.

"Noah thinks you’re sweet, charming, maybe a bit set in your ways but I know you’ve come for revenge, Selene Thorne. Strangely, a woman after being wrongly offended would move on and live as though nothing happened and I sensed this because I know we did you a lot of displeasure when you were still married to my grandson Xavier,".

"Yes, you all did," I said with a ghost smile on my lips "And at a point, I was so angry with every member of your family but what can I do except be angry? I have no parents to support me and no one by my side,".

"Is that why you married my son, Noah?" The Grand Lycan’s eyes shone with confusion "That is the reason why you married Noah... for support? You think you can make him turn against his family?"

My heart jumped to my throat at the Grand Lycan’s near speculation of what my true intentions were. Shaking my head, I squared my shoulders and faced him "You’re mistaken, your majesty. I married Noah for security. He has power over you all and that means I would never be maltreated. No one would touch me again and I wouldn’t put up with everything I had to put when I was married to Xavier...".

"And that are the only reasons, Selene?" The Grand Lycan pursued as our gazes met "You do not wish to bring down our family and teach us a lesson? You do not wish to avenge the death of your parents which my daughter was responsible for? My heart burned with fury at the Grand Lycan’s word and right there, I wanted to lash out... to scream out my frustrations and to tell him boldly that I was going to get my pound of flesh but this was what he wanted? Anger was a great outlet for confession and if he can get me riled to the extent that I can spill a little of how I felt, he’ll be the true winner. But I didn’t die and come back to be used by Xavier’s grandfather again. I didn’t stake my life for nothing, join hands with a god and defile every rule that one can ever dream of... to be riled by a Carrell...never.

The Grand Lycan studied me for a few seconds before letting out an awkward laugh "You’re correct, Luna. I was just jesting. My family will do no such thing to our in-laws. Anyways," he rose to his feet with a smile on his face "I hope you have a lot of things in your arsenal for when the elders and pack officials return because they will not leave you alone,".

"How about you, Grand Lycan?" I retorted "You clearly stated your displeasure in everything they’ve done and also facilitated them being thrown in jail. All I did was unearth the things they did,".

"That’s the difference between us, Selene..." he laughed "You’re a woman and when a man who once played by the rules, listened to elders, took counsel and all the stuff that Noah and I have been doing before you came into our lives...suddenly changes, they’ll blame the woman in his life at that period. Everyone would come for you and not for us, especially as I’ll be letting them know that it was I who made sure that they were released. They will decide that maybe I was trying to play puppet for the Lycan King and then align with me,".

"Someone needs to be made a scapegoat!" the Grand Lycan said without remorse "And like I told you before, Noah doesn’t make a befitting, King. I think it’s high time we change him and replace him with someone else. I already tasked my daughter Nora with providing an heir but giving her age... I’m not sure she’ll be viral but you..." he paused as his eyes ran the length of my body "You’re still young and your womb strong... how about you give me an heir and I’ll make him a King in Noah’s stead,".

For the first time, I saw the Grand Lycan at a loss for words. He opened his mouth several but he could not make a sound. After wringing his fingers for a few seconds more, he shook his head and walked out of the hall, leaving me. I sank deeper into the chair, trying to restore order to my scattered thoughts. Just when I thought I had succeeded, I heard footsteps coming towards me, and then it stopped. When I opened my eyes, it was the Grand Lycan.

"Her name was Lillian," his lips shook as he spoke. "We were meeting with the human world to talk and renew our treaties and all sorts of things when our eyes met across the hall. It was electrifying and I couldn’t deny the passion I felt for her that day. I wanted her... it was the only thing my wolf and I could think of," he paused and exhaled.

"A few months later, and several discreet meetings later, she was with my child and since Nora’s mom couldn’t have any babies, my father couldn’t turn her out and agreed for me to take her as my wife. It was a private affair and no one knew. We had Noah... it was around the same time I was crowned as a King but she began to sway me. "Leave, Selene... If you walk away now from Noah... he’ll hurt and cry and maybe try to look for you but in the end, he’ll be fine and thank you for it. With Brooke carrying his baby... it’ll be easy to make her the new Luna. I’ll see that you’re well taken care of until the day you die both you and the kids. The Elders and the Pack Officials will put all of these behind them and soon it’ll be a thing of the past,".

I shook my head... everything made sense to me now. The people I was up against were intricate creatures and I had simply looked at them from the surface. These people would do anything for power even if it meant hurting their own.

"I love Noah!" I said eventually raising my chin higher as I stared at the Grand Lycan. "More than you’d ever comprehend and I’ll stay. You can sell him to the elders and pack officials but I will stay. He’s not a bad person... he’s kind, warmhearted and confused right now but I know he’ll come back to the man that I admired all these years and we’ll fight back,".

"Okay!" the Grand Lycan shook his head, a sad smile on his face "You’ve made your choice Selene... I hope you don’t regret it soon and I hope you can survive because now, I will make sure you leave my son. I made a promise to his mother and myself, and I nearly forgot about that but thank you for reminding me. If anyone is to go under, then it’ll be you.
