Chapter 195: His Majesty’s car crash was no accident...

Selene POV

I woke up feeling as heavy as I’ve been feeling for a few weeks now and to my phone ringing consistently beside me. Rolling over to the side of the bed, I managed to pick up the phone.

"Hello," I said grudgingly into the phone.

"Hello, good morning, is this Luna Selene Carrell? My name is Jones and His Majesty has you as his emergency contact,".

I bolted into a sitting position the sleep clearing from my eyes as I pulled the phone tighter to my ears. "Yes, this is Luna Selene, his wife. Is something wrong?"

"Yes!" Jones sighed "His Majesty was in an accident three hours ago. It was raining and he seemed to be driving somewhere in a rush according to the witnesses. I am a doctor and he...".

I didn’t hear the rest of what he was saying. My heart was pounding furiously in my chest and at that moment, it felt like I couldn’t breathe like I couldn’t think... every part of my body went numb as I tried not to think too much about what this could mean.

"Luna Selene..." the man’s voice continued calling until he pulled me out of my reverie "Are you alright ma’am? I’m sorry I didn’t know who else to call and I just picked up his phone from the accident scene,".

"I know!" I said firmly "I appreciate you for calling me, can we meet at the entrance of the Pack hospital so you could give me his phone? I’m truly grateful,".

"Sure thing, Luna," he replied before I ended the call. The only thing I could remember doing before leaving the house was brushing my teeth. All I could think about at that point was Noah and if he was doing well. Was this a ploy? Were the Elders and Pack Officials already making a move to oust him?

If anything should happen to Noah then I’m fucked. He is my covering and the only reason why I can pull my weight around. I turned around, hoping to feel Kragen’s presence... this was when I needed him more than ever. After waiting for a while, trying to see if he would show up, I gave up and jumped into the car, heading to the pack hospital.

When I arrived, I went straight to reception. "Good morning," I greeted the lady I saw there "Could you please tell me where his majesty was admitted?"

"At the VVIP floor," the receptionist said "Just take the elevator and go to the 10th floor. I murmured what seemed to be a thank you and hurried towards the elevator. As I half-ran and half-walked, I started dialling the Grand Lycan’s number to let him know that Noah was in an accident.

As soon as the elevator stopped at the floor, I hurried towards the VVIP ward, but when I got to the reception, my steps faltered as I saw the Carrells’ – The Grand Lycan, Nora, a few of the family members and a handful of the pack elders either seating or pacing the reception.

"W-What are you all doing here?" I spluttered coming closer to them "You all knew that Noah was in an accident and no one bothered to tell me? If it hadn’t been for a stranger I wouldn’t have known. What exactly is going on here?"

"We didn’t want you to worry," The Grand Lycan said flippantly, his eyes trained on a door "Besides, I’ve got everything under control. He was taken in for an emergency surgery and we’re hoping everything goes well. So, this is not the time to be angry that you were not informed be grateful that he survived it,".

"But I am his wife... his mate and his Luna... I am supposed to be here before anything. You cannot make a decision regarding my husband without me being here. Aside from how morally unfair it is, Noah would not like this,".

"So, we would have let him bleed out and die because we were waiting for you to notice he wasn’t beside you? It was a matter of urgency and if you’re not going to be all about positivity here, then I suggest you get out and go wait at home or go about your stupid Luna duties," Nora said.

"I am not leaving!" I said through gritted teeth. "Where is the doctor, I need to hear from him what truly happened?"

The atmosphere in the reception hall cackled with anxiety as every one of them there stared at me with amused expressions on their face. The Grand Lycan came towards me, a smirk playing on his lips.

"It wasn’t an option, Luna!" he said firmly "We need someone to run the pack whilst his majesty is still recuperating and since there’s the office of the Luna which according to the new amendment will fill in for the Lycan King should he be away or absent. You should go and fulfil your duties while we will hold the fort here,".

"I just want..." My voice broke, and I felt tears fill my eyes plus it wasn’t helping that my hormones were all over the place. "Is he dead?" I asked staring at the Grand Lycan "If he is, you don’t have to hide it from me, just tell me, I can deal with it,".

"Oh, goddess!" The Grand Lycan gathered me into his arms in a hug, his gaze had softened as he stared at me "He’s not dead, Selene. I know everything came as a bit of a shock but he’s fine and the doctors said he has a high percentage of pulling through the surgery. They’re not out yet and it’ll not be good that the pack is left unattended to,".

"Reid can stand in for him," I said quickly, sighing with relief that at least he wasn’t dead. "I should be here with him,".

"No dear," the Grand Lycan held my shoulders firmly and turned me towards the exit "Reid needs to be here, as his Beta... he’s one of the closest links we have with Noah and I heard that you and his wolf have yet to mark each other, so... you wouldn’t have as much communication benefit as Reid would with him. Anyway, the point is, you don’t have any business here. Just go back to the pack and if we need you, we can always reach out, okay?"

I know what it meant... they were drawing the distinction... I didn’t even know what was true at this point. I turned and scanned the faces of everyone in the room and there was not one friendly face, except maybe for Reid who nodded towards me with a small smile on his face. I wanted to protest, and insist but it’ll be useless at this point. Maybe if I did as I was told, they would let me see him.

"Okay!" I nodded "I’ll head back to the pack house then. Please call me if anything comes up,".

"I will, Luna," Reid responded this time around. I gave them one last nod before I left the reception and started towards the elevator. I tried to fight the tears that gathered at the corner of my eyes as I rode the elevator... I was tired... I wanted to just put my feet up and rest for once in my life.

Just a smooth, uneventful day wouldn’t be too much to ask for. The last thing I remembered was Noah going to bed before me last night and he rarely drives. He has his driver and why on earth was he out of the house that early? He didn’t mention going for a meeting or anything, and neither was there any talk of him meeting up with someone that early. So where could he have been going?

"Excuse me, Luna!" someone touched my shoulders with cold hands making me shout out with fear, when I turned around, it was a blonde-looking guy with a beanie and an oversized coat. freewebnσvel.cѳm

"I’m sorry, Luna!" he took several steps backwards "My name is Jones and I’m the person who called you with His Majesty’s phone a while ago. You said you were going to meet me in front of the hospital but I watched you rush in and I didn’t want to stop you. Is the King fine?"

"Oh!" I chuckled with an embarrassed smile "I was so preoccupied when I drove in and I’m sorry for keeping you waiting all this time,".

"It’s fine," he nodded "How is he thought?"

"He’ll survive... at least that’s what the doctor said. Anyway, I appreciate you calling me and everything. Can I have his phone now, I want to rush back to the pack house?"

"Yeah!" he nodded. I watched as he looked over my shoulders towards the top of the building "Luna, listen to me... someone is watching us right now and I don’t know if giving you His Majesty’s phone is the best idea because I saw someone from the accident scene come to look for it later on,".

All the hairs on the back of my neck prickled. Something didn’t add up and maybe this was the key. If the Carrells were watching now, I might as well give them a show. I took a deep breath launched myself on Jones and began to sob. Jones didn’t understand at first but after a few seconds, he seemed to notice what I was doing. He held me awkwardly with two hands patting my back.

Thankfully, there weren’t so many people at the entrance. I dipped my hand in his pocket where I had seen him try to bring the phone out from and slipped it into my bag.

"Escort me back to my car and come back here, then wait for another one hour before we meet up again. It seems you have quite a lot to tell me,".

"Yes!" he nodded "His Majesty’s car crash was no accident. I saw everything,".
