Chapter 1251: We'll Kill Them All

"Let's go."

Ling Feng lifted his gaze and said calmly, "We're heading for the city center. I want to see what's happening there."

Lin Mu and the others nodded, their faces set with grim resolve. They all knew it was like walking straight into a tiger's jaws, but none of them hesitated!

Only President Fang had gone pale. He swallowed hard and stammered, "M-Mr. Ling, everyone... this path is far too dangerous. With my limited strength, I'll only hold you back. Those creatures have already gathered in the city. I'll wait near the outer island so... so I won't be a burden."

"Such noble words for cowardice!"

Lan Yuhuang gave a cold snort. "You're the first to run when trouble comes. I truly don't know how someone like you ever reached the Human Emperor Realm."

Ling Feng smiled faintly and patted President Fang's shoulder. "We're all in the same boat, President Fang. We've come this far together. There's no need to talk about burdens. Let's keep going. If danger shows itself, we'll face it together."

Lan Yuhuang muttered under her breath, eyes sharp as knives. "Why keep him around? He's useless."

She couldn't understand it. From beginning to end, the so-called president had done nothing but drag them down. With Ling Feng's insight, how could he not see it?

Ling Feng simply shook his head. "Miss Lan speaks bluntly, President Fang. Don't take it to heart."

"Of course not, of course not, hehe..." President Fang said with a strained laugh. After Ling Feng's words, there was nothing more he could say.

"Everyone, be ready," Ling Feng said. "What lies ahead won't be easy!"

They continued through the island. From time to time, monsters appeared, but each one ignored them and flew toward the grand hall at the island's center. The drumbeats were a command to them, a summons that overrode every other instinct.

Once they realized this, the group stopped sneaking about and moved openly toward the inner island.

The streets of Heavenly Pool Island stank of decay. The air carried a chill of long abandonment.

Every ordinary face they saw was gaunt, hollow-eyed, and afraid. To the monsters, such people were either slaves or food. The slaves fared only slightly better, but they too live each day with the risk of being eaten.

When the starving townsfolk saw Ling Feng's group, disbelief filled their eyes. They could hardly imagine that healthy, strong humans still existed here.

"So this is how the people of Heavenly Pool Island live?" Lan Yuhuang murmured. She glanced around at the figures huddled in the shadows, too frightened to come out, as if expecting these travelers to turn into monsters at any moment.

"This place is a living hell," Lin Mu said bitterly. "If we get the chance, we should take them away from here."

"Take them away?" Lou Qianzhong shook his head. "You mean well, but they're too fragile. If a space-time rift opens, they won't survive. They'll die by the thousands. Leaving them here might give them a little more time to live."

Lin Mu sighed. "If only a storage spirit ring could hold living beings."

Ling Feng touched his nose, as if an idea had quietly formed in his mind.

As they went further, the group found another large iron cage packed with humans. The people inside were all pale and weak, skeletal, and covered only by a single piece of cloth that barely concealed their bodies.

When they saw Ling Feng's group, terror flashed across their faces. They shrank back, trembling, as if expecting more pain.

"Damn monsters!"

Lin Mu cursed. He kicked the cage door open and shouted, "Come out! The monsters are gone. Run while you can!"

The prisoners stared, stunned. A few younger men dropped to their knees and kowtowed before helping others to their feet. "Someone's come to save us. We can escape!"

"Escape? Where to?" an old man cried hoarsely. "There's nowhere left to run. Every path ends in death!"

"How would you know if you never try?" a teenage boy said, gripping the old man's arm. "Father, let's go. These people are immortals. They came to save us."

"Immortals?" The old man burst into a harsh laugh. "Ten years ago, another immortal came. He ate more people than the monsters ever did. There are no immortals. Even immortals turn into monsters sooner or later. I'm old and tired. No matter where I run, I'll end up in a monster's belly. That's our fate!"

"No, we really are here to save you!" Lin Mu said urgently with a frustrated voice. These people had already lost the will to live.

"An immortal who eats people?" Ling Feng narrowed his eyes. The thought struck him at once. The old man must have been speaking of the Heaven-Patrolling Angel.

Even the divine race of the Immortal Domain, even the so-called Heaven-Patrolling Angels, had fallen so low. What a cruel irony.

Ling Feng placed a hand on Lin Mu's shoulder and gave a slight shake of his head. Then he looked at the despairing crowd and spoke slowly. "The most terrifying prison in this world isn't made of iron. It's the one you build inside your heart."

"Believe me or don't, we will wipe out every monster on this island. You can hide, or you can stay here and wait for death. The choice is yours. We aren't immortals, but even an immortal only saves those who save themselves. Lose hope, and every place becomes hell."

He held the old man's gaze for a long moment, then turned away. "Let's go."

Lin Mu clenched his fists, glanced once more at the prisoners, and followed.

"Wait... please wait!"

The old man struggled to his feet, tears trembling in his eyes. "Are you truly going to destroy those monsters?"

"Yes," Ling Feng said, turning back. His eyes burned with certainty. "We'll kill them all. None will remain!"

The old man fell to his knees, weeping. "Good... good. Bless you, benefactor!"

Ling Feng bent to help him up and said gently, "Old sir, gather everyone and find a place to hide. Leave the rest to us!"
