The Art of Chaotic Divinity-Chapter 1252: President Fangs True Face
"Thank you, thank you!"
Ling Feng's words gave those hopeless people a faint thread of light. If there was even the slightest chance to live, who would ever wish for death?
All the more so when death meant becoming food for those monsters!
The old man's eyes filled with tears. He turned to Ling Feng and asked, "Benefactor, could you... could you save the others as well? That drumbeat, it seems to mean a great sacrifice is about to take place. On ordinary days, the monsters control how many people they eat, but whenever a sacrifice begins, countless lives are lost!"
"A sacrifice?"
Ling Feng frowned and said in a low voice, "I will do what I can, but it may be impossible to save everyone."
Time and manpower were both far from enough.
"Even saving one is worth it," Lin Mu said at once. "Elder, don't worry. We'll help however we can."
Ling Feng nodded. After asking the old man where the nearby cages were located, the group discussed briefly and decided to split up. By dividing their strength, they could free more humans in the shortest possible time.
At the moment, every monster was gathered in the inner island's center. The danger of separating was not too great.
"Elder, take everyone and hide near the city walls for now," Ling Feng said. "After we rescue the others, we'll have them meet you there. We'll find a way to get you off this island when the monsters are dead."
He gave a few more instructions and watched as the two to three hundred people left. Only then did he turn to the others. "Brother Lou, Lin Mu, the two of you are the strongest. Each of you will free the prisoners in one of these two locations. Miss Lan, Yan'er, you'll go together to this place. As for you, President Fang, you'll come with me. Any objections?"
"Ah?"
President Fang froze for a moment. He looked at Ling Feng, then nodded. "All right, all right!"
"We'll move in four groups. Between us, we should be able to free everyone in this area, but time is short. We must finish before the monsters return. If they come back, we might escape, but the common people will not."
"Understood."
Everyone nodded and set out in their assigned directions. Ling Feng glanced once at President Fang and said calmly, "Stay close behind me. If something happens, I'll cover your retreat."
"Uh... Brother Ling, you're too kind," President Fang said with forced gratitude.
"We're all in the same situation. There's no need for thanks."
Ling Feng narrowed his eyes slightly, turning his back to President Fang without hesitation. The two moved swiftly toward their destination.
Before long, Ling Feng stopped before a massive stone archway[1]. He raised his head, surveyed the area, and said quietly, "This is the largest holding site nearby. According to that elder, there's a barrier at the entrance to stop the captives from escaping."
"A barrier?" President Fang frowned at the archway. "Brother Ling, do you have a way to break it?"
"That won't be a problem," Ling Feng said with a faint smile. "I'll use my elemental force to tear open a gap in the restriction. When I give the word, strike that opening with all your strength. Together, we'll shatter it."
"Haha, I knew you'd have a plan!" President Fang's eyes gleamed with excitement. He nodded quickly.
"Then listen for my signal!"
Ling Feng drew a deep breath and braced himself before the archway. He pushed both hands forward. A faint light shimmered before him, forming a luminous barrier. Ling Feng channeled his elemental force, forcing the barrier apart until a narrow crack appeared.
"Do you see it, President Fang? That's the weak point. Attack it!"
Ling Feng's voice was low and strained, his brow furrowed as though maintaining the opening took all his strength.
"Good! Brother Ling, I'm on it!"
President Fang laughed loudly. "Brother Ling, you truly are a good man. Then let a good man do one last good deed!"
"You... what do you mean?"
Ling Feng's eyes widened slightly, confusion flashing across his face.
President Fang's grin twisted into a sneer. "I'm not the sort to throw my life away. But that body of yours hides plenty of secrets, doesn't it? From now on, they'll belong to me!"
Boom!
A violent roar sounded as President Fang threw his punch.
Instead of striking the barrier, his fist shot straight toward Ling Feng's head.
Crack!
Ling Feng's skull shattered, and his body collapsed to the ground. His eyes were still wide with disbelief, as if asking why President Fang had done this.
"Hahahaha!"
President Fang burst into wild laughter. The strike that killed Ling Feng filled him with exhilaration.
"Brother Ling, you were good at everything except knowing when to be cautious. In this world, good men never live long."
He kicked the corpse, making sure there was no breath left. Satisfied, he gave a dark chuckle. "You had no idea, did you? Zong Lian and the others weren't killed by those monsters. I killed them myself. How could those monsters leave the bodies untouched if they were the ones who attacked?"
"You would never have guessed that the useless President Fang is actually stronger than Zong Lian, would you? Hahaha!"
"I suppose I really wouldn't have guessed!"
The voice was calm, familiar, and chilling.
President Fang froze where he stood. His expression twisted as he turned his head sharply.
"Ling... Ling Feng, you're alive!"
"Alive? You could die ten times and I'd still be fine!"
A figure stepped out from behind a broken wall. Ling Feng's eyes were cold as he fixed them on President Fang. "The one you killed was only an illusion. Did it feel satisfying to kill me?" 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
"You—"
The muscles on President Fang's face twitched violently. He stared at Ling Feng, his voice shaking with fury and disbelief. "When did you start suspecting me?"
“When?” Ling Feng tilted his head, his gaze steady. “From the beginning, I suppose. You concealed your power so well that even I almost believed the act. But my spirit pet is not so easily fooled.”
Ling Feng snapped his fingers. "Zifeng, come out!"
A flash of purple light appeared, and a pocket-sized Ice Lin landed neatly on Ling Feng's shoulder. The little Ice Lin looked at President Fang with an ancient expression and chuckled. "You hid yourself well, but your vitality can't escape my senses!"
"So I slipped once," President Fang said coldly, narrowing his eyes. "Even if you saw through that, how could you be certain I was the one who attacked Zong Lian and the others?"
"Hiding your strength isn't the issue," Ling Feng said, his gaze sharp as a blade. "The problem is the mistake you made afterward, one that was far too obvious!"
He fixed his eyes on President Fang, his voice turning cold.
