Chapter 59: Ch 59: The Show for Three- Part 2

"Without further delay, we will begin the show."

The director told us all and the camera started to roll. One of the cameras recorded me and the other one recorded Rose. The main one was centered around the stage where the contestants were welcomed.

I kept an eye out for talented individuals who could keep a steady head as well as have good judgment skills. But the first few contestants kept being over-the-top and leaning more to favor Rose.

"Miss, should we do something about it? At this rate, our presence will not make a difference on this show and Miss Rose will grab all the attention."

Jason asked as he watched the contestants pay attention to Rose. He leaned in slightly, lowering his voice as if afraid someone might overhear, even though the set noise drowned everything out.

Harvour Industries had a successful and well-established branch in the business sector and they had a lot of famous names under them as well. I had worked hard to make that business successful.

But because I worked on it, I knew too many skeletons in the closet that could make it collapse anytime.

Before that, I needed to find some talents of my own who could fill the void that the collapse would cause. As for the candidates not paying attention to me?

"Don’t worry about it. I specifically asked the director to put the contestants like this. I want the first few candidates to favor Rose and try to impress her. That way, she will be in a good mood and not pay too much attention later."

"Besides, anyone who’s serious about this industry would realize who is offering them a better deal."

Harvour Industries might be a well-established business, but it also had limited resources that it would likely use to promote its well-known actors. Those who enter at the bottom will have to fight hard for any scraps.

On the other hand, not only was my business new and filled with resources up for grabs, it was also being backed by Damian Black and NYC Entertainment. Such a combination was a dream come true for anyone.

’Don’t worry, Rose. You can be happy all you want...for now. Let your guard down so that I can drag you down.’

I crossed one leg over the other, feigning ease while anticipation thrummed under my skin.

Jason suddenly looked at me in a new light and his worry ebbed a little.

"Miss, please remind me to never get on your bad side. I don’t think I want to ever experience your mind games."

He told me as he pretended to shiver and I pretended not to notice how he was observing me all the time. His eyes lingered a second too long, as if he was trying to figure out what other traps I’d laid.

Instead, we both paid attention to what was going on. Things were about to get very interesting pretty soon.

As soon as the next contestant stepped up, I noticed his eyes looking toward me first. He was paying attention to me now.

’Now, it’s time for the real show to begin.’

__________

Rose pov.

’Tsk, to think I would have to share the stage with Damian’s mistress of all people. This should have never happened in the first place. The director should have kicked her out and kept me as the only guest for today.’

I felt annoyed by how things were going. The director was a fool, likely being intimidated by Damian Black’s name, but the one he needed to be afraid of was me.

’I am going to ruin this director and producer’s whole career once this show is over. They will never find work again.’

Harvour Industries would make sure of that on my behalf. But for now, I had a show to judge and the current performer bowed before me as soon as she finished her performance.

Truthfully, I had not paid attention to her mediocre performance, but I still needed to speak because the camera was on me and it was a good way to grab public attention.

"You are a good actress. Ah, why don’t you come to work for our label? We will surely love to have a talent like you."

My words were insincere in heart, but my tone did not reflect that. It made the female contestant on the stage flush.

"Miss Rose, I am flattered by your attention."

Her performance was nothing remarkable, but she had a good head on her shoulders at least to know that she needed to choose me.

’Jenna, I will take everything here— all the talent, all the attention and all of your future prospects. You can try and step in the entertainment business all you want, but without any talent, you are done for.’

My plan was simple— show up and give people a chance to enter her label. Any sensible person would choose her for sure. And the first few people were proving her point quite well.

’I knew this would happen. Now, show me that angry and sour face of yours, Jenna.’

The satisfaction that would bring me would be immense...

’Huh—! What is with that smile? What do you have to smile for? I will show you—’

"Karl, what do you say we offer all the people here a chance to become stars—"

I started to ask when Karl’s grip tightened on the armchair. His eyes were glued to Jenna on the other side...

His jaw clenched hard, the tendons showing as if he was holding back something he shouldn’t feel.

It made my insides burn to have his attention on someone else, but I did not even get to pay attention for long because the next contestant entered.

I got ready to invite him to my side once he was done with his performance, but the contestant did not turn toward me.

Instead, he turned toward Jenna and dedicated his performance to her.

A flash of humiliation stabbed me in my heart as I looked at this happening. My fingers curled around the microphone, nails biting into the foam.

’W-What is going on—! How is that...’

I wanted to question but my throat felt dry. Things were starting to spiral out of my control here and I knew I needed to get them back on track.

"You are excellent. What do you say about coming over to my label?"

I quickly asked the kid before Jenna could offer him a place by her side. Jenna’s soft smile looked back at me and I felt annoyed.

But my attention was on the kid in front of me...who just smiled before shaking his head.

"I would...actually prefer to go to Miss Jenna’s label. I just feel like I would fit in there better."

And just like that...I had been rejected by a no-named nobody.
