Chapter 34: Chapter 034: You Like Me, Admit It

Sienna Johnson felt wronged too. After all, she was a woman. Although her life had been arduous, the past five months were beyond terrifying. She guessed ordinary people might never experience such hardships in their entire lives.

"Feeling wronged?" Adrian Desmond asked. She dared to glare at him after he’d only said a few words. He felt like he’d spoiled her rotten.

Sienna remained silent, but her eyes reddened.

"Don’t cry. I can’t stand it when you cry." Seeing Sienna’s red-rimmed eyes and the tears starting to fall, Adrian grew agitated. "What are you crying for? I didn’t hit you or scold you."

"You didn’t hit me, and you didn’t scold me, but you want me to die!" Sienna pushed him, retorting unreasonably, "If you want me dead, then go! If you leave, I’ll never make it out of this jungle alone."

"ARGH!" Adrian cried out as she pushed him.

Concerned, Sienna immediately asked, "Adrian, are you alright?"

"I’ve taken down over thirty of them, and I don’t know how many are left! Mai, stop messing around. I’m tired."

Adrian was indeed exhausted. He unexpectedly sat down beside Sienna, panting heavily. He reeked of blood. Sienna assumed it was from the others, not realizing Adrian himself was injured.

Suddenly, a weight settled on her shoulder. Adrian had leaned against her. Surprised, Sienna looked at him. "You... What’s wrong?"

"Just a bit tired."

"Then rest for a while."

Adrian only rested on Sienna’s shoulder for a minute before forcing himself to stand. As Sienna moved to help him, her hand brushed his waist and touched a wound. Looking down in the moonlight, she saw he was injured.

"Wait!" Sienna quickly examined the injury. It was a gunshot wound, still bleeding. "You’re hurt."

He grunted noncommittally.

"We need to stop the bleeding!"

"Little Ninth isn’t here."

"I studied medicine too."

"Right, I forgot. You concocted something that poisoned my Tibetan Mastiff and incapacitated over a hundred of my men. Mai, you’re full of surprises," Adrian mocked.

Sienna’s face tightened, her displeasure evident. "Don’t worry, I won’t take this opportunity to poison you."

"I know. You wouldn’t be able to."

"You—How can you be so shameless? Who couldn’t bear to lose you?" Sienna’s face flushed as she retorted stubbornly.

"Mai, you like me too. Just admit it!" he chuckled, a knowing look on his face.

Sienna shot him a glare, too exasperated to deal with this madman.

Under the moonlight, Adrian gave Sienna a weak smile. "We have no gauze, no disinfectant, and nothing to stop the bleeding. What good is a doctor now?"

Ever since Sienna had met Adrian, he had always been a formidable presence. Seeing him so weak now, she couldn’t bear it. "This is a jungle. There are all sorts of plants. Maybe I can find some medicinal herbs."

He remained silent.

"Wait here. I’ll be back soon." Sienna started to get up, but Adrian’s strong hand clamped down on her arm. "Don’t you dare go anywhere!"

"Adrian, you’re bleeding! If we don’t treat this, you’ll lose too much blood and go into shock. It could be life-threatening!" Sienna explained the severity of his wound, but Adrian merely tightened his grip on her hand, refusing to let go.

"You can’t leave my sight! I... I won’t be at ease!"

Sienna was terrified too. This place was perilous—not only were Uncle’s men after them, but there were also tigers. She was genuinely afraid that if she left, she might never return. Yet, if she didn’t go, Adrian’s condition would only worsen.

Adrian gently kissed her cheek, reassuring her. "I’ll be fine. I’ve survived worse injuries than this and didn’t die."

Sienna grumbled, "Yeah, ’the good die young, but a scourge lasts a thousand years.’ You’ll probably live to be ten thousand."

Adrian smiled foolishly. "Are you scolding me?"

"Yes, I am! So what?"

Adrian gripped the back of her head and kissed her fiercely. The kiss tasted awful; his mouth reeked of smoke and blood. Sienna initially resisted, but Adrian was too dominant.

As they kissed, just when things were about to escalate, Adrian’s remaining shred of rationality stopped him. Losing control now would be courting death.

He released her, panting heavily, and said, "I’ll deal with you when we get back!"

"Let’s talk about it if we actually get back." Sienna had no idea if they could even escape this jungle; she was utterly lost.

Adrian stood up and looked at the tall cliff. Below it was a deep pool of water. He turned to Sienna and asked, "Can you swim?"

"Yes!"

"Good."

Sienna also staggered to her feet. "What are you planning to do?"

"They’ll catch up soon. With you here, I’m afraid I can’t handle that many of them. Let’s jump!"

Sienna cried out in terror, "I don’t want to die! If you want to die, go die by yourself!"

Adrian’s eyes were dark and unreadable, a cryptic smile playing on his lips. He pulled Sienna into his arms and chuckled darkly, "If I’m going to die, I’m taking you with me!"

"The situation might not be that bad! We can’t give up hope until the very last moment. When I fell into the sea, I drifted for so long, and even when I encountered sharks, I never gave up. Adrian, you can’t give up either! We’ll be saved!"

Adrian leaned, and both of them tumbled towards the cliff edge. Sienna desperately wanted to slap him. This bastard! If he wanted to die, why did he have to drag her down with him?!

"Adrian, you bastard!" Sienna cursed.

"When we hit the water, take a deep breath, understand?" Adrian instructed as they fell.

Sienna looked down at the deep pool far below. Recalling Adrian’s words, she suddenly understood. He was seeking life from a place of certain death! Their position on the clifftop had been too exposed, too dangerous. Jumping was perhaps their only chance of survival.

They plunged from the high cliff into the water, sinking deep into the pool.

The water was deep, and they kept sinking. Suddenly, Adrian grabbed her waist and began swimming upwards. Sienna kicked too, and together they struggled, finally hauling themselves onto the bank, drenched and gasping.

"COUGH, COUGH..."

"Are you alright?" Adrian asked.

Sienna looked at him, still panting heavily. "I should be asking you that."

"Not dead yet!" Adrian clutched the wound on his abdomen. In the moonlight, half of his clothes were stained a dark, wet crimson. At this rate, he really would die.

"Where are you going?" Sienna asked.

"To find some herbs!"

"We’ll go together," Adrian insisted. He couldn’t stand the thought of her leaving his sight for even a second.

"Alright." Sienna helped Adrian up, and they began searching for medicinal herbs together. He really should have been lying down to rest; moving would only make the bleeding worse. But the stubborn Adrian paid her no heed.
