Chapter 507: Chapter 508: The First Dance

Adrian Desmond felt embarrassed. He could dance, but he wasn’t very good at it.

"How about someone else accompanies you for the first dance?" Adrian asked, lacking confidence.

"Someone else? They’re not my son-in-law!"

Although Pauline Briggs looked disgusted and clearly unimpressed, she still took his hand and led him onto the dance floor.

Before leaving, Adrian cast a pitiful glance at Sienna Johnson.

Waltz music began to play in the hall, and all eyes turned to the couple on the dance floor. From across the room, Adrian’s gaze met Sienna’s, his eyes betraying his lack of confidence. Sienna mouthed to him, "Go for it!"

Seeing her brother-in-law’s predicament, Samara grew worried. "Sis, he can dance, can’t he? Mom already dislikes him. If he steps on Mom’s feet, it’ll be even harder to change her impression of him."

"I taught him all night last night."

"What?" Samara couldn’t believe her eyes as she looked at the man on the dance floor, standing straight, appearing somewhat stiff. "So it was a crash course in dancing? Will he really be okay?"

Curly said, "My dad is the best! Look how well he dances."

No sooner had Curly spoken than Adrian nearly trod on Pauline’s foot. Fortunately, he reacted quickly and managed to avoid it.

Curly covered her eyes and said, "I take back my words!"

Samara nervously watched the two on the dance floor. Please let everything go smoothly; don’t let anything go wrong, she silently prayed.

「On the dance floor.」

Pauline was disdainful of her son-in-law. Adrian wasn’t a good dancer to begin with, and now he had to focus on remembering the steps while enduring her criticism.

"Relax! You’re a person, not a robot! How can you dance well when you’re so stiff?" Pauline chided.

Adrian remained silent.

"The fourth beat just now was too fast..."

Still, he said nothing.

"You can’t even dance at social occasions, Adrian. Could you be any more useless?"

Adrian was sweating nervously. He couldn’t stand it any longer. "Madam Johnson," he finally said, "if I can’t dance—shouldn’t you be the happiest about it? It just proves I’ve always conducted myself properly and kept my distance from women."

No matter what I do, it’s never good enough for her!

"You can’t dance, and you’re making excuses? Adrian, I see you’ve become quite spirited. I say one thing, and you have ten retorts ready. You’re Sienna’s husband. There will be plenty of events like this in the future. Are you going to let other men be her dance partners?"

Of course not!

"Madam Johnson, rest assured. I’ll go home and practice the waltz diligently." I refuse to believe that I can’t learn to dance well if I practice hard enough!

"Relax your body..."

Adrian tensed up again.

"Lift your head! Stop looking down; there’s no money on the ground!"

"I’m just afraid I’ll step on your feet!"

"Do you think looking down will prevent that?" Pauline scolded.

The Sixth Master had never been so humiliated. His own mother-in-law was dressing him down like a child, and he couldn’t even get angry or say a word in his defense.

"Lift your head, relax your body. Yes, that’s it, take it slow. Stop thinking about stepping on my feet. The more you worry about it, the more likely you are to make a mistake."

"I know," Adrian muttered. She’s so bossy.

"You’re dancing much better than before."

Has the sun risen in the west? My mother-in-law, who does nothing but belittle me, is actually praising me?

"Your father danced better than I do. If he were still alive and taught you, you would have learned very well." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

"You’re a good teacher too," he said.

He relaxed, and his dance steps indeed became smoother. Once he loosened up, he no longer came close to stepping on Pauline’s feet.

By the midpoint of the song, Adrian was dancing quite well, and Pauline finally stopped her constant corrections.

Gazing at Adrian’s handsome face, Pauline felt a wave of mixed emotions.

Her tone was no longer aggressive but softened. "Perhaps because she had a difficult life growing up, Sienna is very strong-willed. But she has her vulnerable moments too. Now that you’re husband and wife, the two closest people in this world, you must support and love each other...

"Even though you married into our family, you’re the only man in the Johnson household now. You have to help Sienna manage this family...

"Help me take good care of my Sienna!"

"She’s my wife and the mother of my child. She’s very important to me!"

When the music concluded, the dance ended.

Adrian bowed to Pauline with the flourish of an Avrupa courtier, then left the dance floor.

Pauline watched Adrian’s retreating figure, her eyes becoming slightly moist.

"Pauline, you’re so fortunate! Such a handsome and capable son-in-law," Mrs. Carter, one of Pauline’s close friends, remarked as she came over to greet her.

Seeing her good friend, Pauline became more talkative. "It’s all thanks to Dexter watching over us. With Sienna having found someone like Adrian, I can finally be at ease, even in death."

"Nonsense! Why are you saying such unlucky things on your birthday?" Mrs. Carter chided, taking her hand. "You’re still young! Your daughter and son-in-law are devoted, and they’ll give you a plump grandson. Your best days are still ahead of you!"

"Yes."

While Adrian and Pauline were having their first dance, Night Owl approached Sienna Johnson.

Sienna’s gaze was fixed on the man on the dance floor, and she didn’t notice Night Owl beside her.

It was the first time Night Owl had ever been so thoroughly ignored by a woman.

Now, he could finally observe her up close.

The fabric of her evening gown hinted at the flawless, tempting skin beneath, stirring the imagination. The full curves of her bust were clearly defined. Beneath the soft hem of her skirt, a pair of feet as white and perfect as carved jade were clad in open-toed stilettos. Her feet were exquisite. It took all his willpower to stop himself from reaching out to touch them.

The music stopped, and the first dance ended too.

Tango music began to play, and couples started to fill the dance floor. Night Owl walked up to Sienna.

He bowed and asked, "Madam, may I have the honor of this dance?"

Sienna looked up and saw Aiden Howard. She frowned. Just as she was about to decline, he grabbed her hand, pulling her off balance and onto the dance floor.

I’m pregnant, and I really didn’t want to dance tonight, Sienna thought. But now that I’m on the dance floor, leaving would just seem affected. So, she began to dance with him.

Sienna found the aura Aiden Howard exuded deeply unpleasant.

"Madam, you seem to dislike me a great deal?"

In tango, the dancers are in close embrace. The man’s right arm around the woman and her left arm are drawn further inward, their bodies maintaining contact. The man’s weight is primarily on his right foot, the woman’s on her left. They do not make eye contact; instead, both look to their own left when in position. Tango music is characterized by its lively tempo and distinctive syncopated rhythms. The dance is a dazzling display of gorgeous, elegant, passionate, and wild movements, with ever-changing cross steps, kicks, leaps, and spins.
