The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress-Chapter 516 - 517: Sisters Quarrel
Samara sensed Sienna’s coldness and even caught a glimpse of her anger. She was alarmed by the icy glare Sienna was throwing at Pauline.
Mother and sister always had a strained relationship, with their mother treating Sienna poorly in the past. Ever since she realized what Sabrina Johnson was truly like, she regretted her actions and tried to make amends to Sienna, deliberately trying to please her. However, Sienna remained uninterested.
"Sister, our mother is dying. Don’t you feel sad at all?"
"..."
"I’m devastated. Why can you be so indifferent?"
Samara’s voice was tinged with accusation. Sienna, lost in her own thoughts, was startled by her sister’s question and stared at her.
"Samara, what are you trying to say?"
Samara was timid. Sienna had been the Boss of a group for many years and possessed an imposing aura without needing to show anger. How could a young girl withstand such presence?
Nevertheless, she bravely said, "Mother must have tried to kill herself because of you! She has always felt guilty towards you and wanted to make amends, but you never forgave her... Mother couldn’t bear it, so she chose suicide."
Sienna hadn’t expected her sister to think this way. She stared at Samara coldly. Her gaze made Samara tremble like a bird caught in a freezing wind.
"So?"
Samara’s courage quickly waned before Sienna’s full, intimidating presence, and she dared not speak further. She glared at her sister, her resentment clear in her eyes.
"You’re blaming Madam Johnson’s suicide on me? Just because I didn’t accept her attempts to make amends?" Sienna voiced the words her sister didn’t dare to say.
Samara quietly responded, "Yes! If you had been nicer to Mother, she wouldn’t have tried to kill herself."
Sienna sneered, her gaze as cold and sharp as a knife. "...Samara Johnson, you remind me of Sabrina Johnson!"
Samara looked at her sister in confusion. "What does Sabrina Johnson have to do with this?" They both despised Sabrina Johnson for causing Dexter Johnson’s death.
"Because you’re acting just like her right now!"
Samara’s face turned red as she retorted, "I’m nothing like her! She’s malicious! She killed Father! I hate her!"
"Samara Johnson, you’re all the same. You always look for fault in others instead of examining yourselves."
"..."
"When Madam Johnson treated me poorly, I had to accept it. When she treats me well, must I also accept it? If I don’t, am I the one in the wrong?"
"..."
"If I don’t accept it, she feels wronged and chooses suicide?" Sienna’s next words chilled Samara to the bone. "...Such a fragile person. It might be better if she’s dead."
"Sister, Mother is dying! How can you say such things?" Samara stared angrily at her sister. "What is your heart made of? She’s your mother too! Why aren’t you sad at all? How can you say those words?"
Sienna coldly replied, "And how should I be sad? Cry like you? I’m sorry, I can’t do that."
"Sister, you’re so cruel, so heartless!"
Sienna reached out and cupped her sister’s pretty face. "Samara Johnson, I am cruel! My heart is made of stone!
"Regarding Madam Johnson’s suicide attempt, my anger is greater than any sorrow. This woman... when I needed her most, she didn’t protect me. When I needed love the most, she hurt me deeply... And now that I’ve grown up and no longer need her love, she’s trying to force it on me... I’m so frustrated!"
"..."
"If it’s as you said, that she’s attempting suicide because I won’t accept her or forgive her, then all I have left is anger."
"..."
"If that’s what you think, then others probably think the same. Madam Johnson has played her hand well, hasn’t she? Turning me into an unrighteous, disloyal, and unfilial person!"
Samara was frightened by Sienna in that moment. She pushed her away, not wanting to say another word.
At this moment, Emergency Medical Services arrived. Housekeeper Mr. Henry, having heard the news, personally led them to Pauline Briggs’s bedroom.
"Miss, Emergency Medical Services are here..."
Sienna said to Mr. Henry, "Let them in!"
As soon as she spoke, medical personnel in white coats entered. Learning that the patient had attempted suicide by taking sleeping pills, they wasted no time placing her on a stretcher to take her to the hospital for gastric lavage. There were no other immediate, better treatment options.
In the ambulance, Samara accompanied them. The two sisters didn’t exchange a single word.
「And so, they arrived at the hospital.」
Pauline Briggs was wheeled into the operating room for gastric lavage. The two sisters sat on chairs outside, neither saying a word.
When Adrian Desmond arrived after receiving the news, he saw the two sisters sitting far apart, like strangers. He was puzzled but didn’t ask.
"How is Madam Johnson?"
Samara glared at Adrian Desmond. "Madam Johnson, Madam Johnson... Who do you think you are? In our family, only servants call my mother Madam Johnson!" 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Adrian Desmond looked strangely at Samara for a moment and asked, "What’s wrong with you today, Samara?"
"Ignore her," Sienna said. "She’s acting erratically."
"You’re the one acting erratically!" Samara retorted, her eyes red.
"I don’t want to talk to you!" Sienna stated.
"I don’t want to talk to you either! You’re not my sister anymore!"
Sienna’s face hardened. "You never treated me like a sister before anyway!"
"How did I not treat you like a sister? Do you think I’m as stone-hearted as you?"
"I seem to recall your relationship with Sabrina Johnson was much better than with me, your actual sister."
"That’s because I spent more time with Sabrina Johnson..."
Sienna interjected, "So you do understand that relationships need time to build!"
Unable to win the argument, Samara could only glare at her sister. Sienna, still fuming, refused to even look at her.
At that moment, the procedure ended. Pauline Briggs was wheeled out, her face ghastly pale, completely devoid of color.
Samara ran over, crying out with a sob, "Mom, how are you? Mom, it’s me, Samara..."
Sienna approached the doctor. "Doctor, how is the patient’s condition?"
"We performed a gastric lavage. However, the patient took a very large dose of sleeping pills, and a considerable amount of time passed before treatment. The components of the pills have dissolved into her bloodstream, so we’ll need to observe her for a few days to determine if she’s out of danger."
"I understand. Thank you."
"You’re welcome."
Pauline Briggs was moved to a ward, and Samara followed. Sienna arranged for two caretakers for Pauline Briggs but did not go in herself at that time.
