The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress-Chapter 555 - 556: An Ambitious Family
"What’s wrong with you, Sis? Why are you talking so much today, constantly lecturing me? You were never like this before," Jenny said unhappily.
"Alright, just go back to your room!"
"Fine, I’m going!" Jenny stood up and walked out sulkily.
Ashley Hopper apologized, "Aunt Sienna, my sister is spoiled by me; please don’t mind her. She’s just a girl from the countryside; she hasn’t seen much of the world."
"You’re too kind, Sister-in-law. We’re all family; no need for such formalities. I only own a Pharmaceutical Factory; I’m just a bit more well-off than you."
A woman from the side spoke up, "Don’t be so humble. We all know you’re a wealthy young miss from a rich family, living in mansions, driving Luxury Cars. A single meal of yours could feed us for a year..."
Sienna Johnson was amused by her words. "You must be talking about the Empress Dowager story."
The woman continued, "Anyway, you are very rich. But the Robertson Family raised you. You can’t be ungrateful and abandon them. Our Ashley is your sister-in-law now; you should dote on her..."
"What are you all doing? If you keep talking nonsense, I won’t get married!" Ashley snapped.
The older woman then said to Ashley, "You silly child, why say you won’t marry? Where else would you find someone as good as Marvin? Auntie is just looking out for you, isn’t she? With your family’s financial situation, won’t you have to rely on your sister-in-law to help you out in the future?
"Your Brother is grown now too. Since your sister-in-law is here, let her arrange a position for your Brother in her company so he can go to the City Center and make something of himself."
Sienna’s expression darkened as she listened. They were already scheming before the wedding.
Her sister-in-law, who had been defending her earlier, fell silent, her eyes holding a hint of expectation.
Sienna Johnson sneered inwardly but didn’t show it on her face.
...
Rural weddings were mainly about eating and drinking, a chance for busy neighbors to gather for a meal.
After the guests dispersed that evening, the family sat down for a private dinner. Sienna Johnson and the Hopper Family sat at the same table.
It was only then that Sienna Johnson learned Ashley Hopper had actually moved her parents and younger siblings into this three-story house to live with her.
She had heard of women bringing children from a previous marriage when they remarried, but she had never heard of someone bringing their parents and younger siblings along when they got married.
Ashley Hopper wore a bright red dress and raised her glass to Sienna Johnson. "Aunt Sienna, this toast is for you. Thank you for all your help with Marvin."
"He’s my Brother; it’s my duty to help him." Sienna Johnson was pregnant, so her glass contained water. She took a sip.
Bryant Robertson smiled happily and said, "Sienna, you’re leaving tomorrow? Why don’t you stay a few more days? There’s a Snow Lotus on the mountain that’s about to bloom. I’ve had people keeping an eye on it these past few days. I was hoping that once it blooms, you could take it back with you."
"There’s no rush. It’s fine if you send it to me after it blooms."
"Are you sure you can’t stay a few more days?"
Sienna Johnson looked at Bryant Robertson, a sincere smile finally gracing her lips. "Adrian Desmond and I are going to Abyanabad. If it weren’t for your wedding, we would have already left.
"Besides, I’ll be visiting here often in the future, so there will be plenty of opportunities to meet."
Upon hearing that Sienna Johnson was leaving tomorrow, Ashley Hopper asked with urgency, "Aunt Sienna, why are you leaving so soon?"
Sienna Johnson just smiled and didn’t answer. Instead, she fed her daughter some fish, saying, "Careful, there might be bones."
"Sis, hurry up and say it," Jenny urged.
Ashley Hopper looked nervously at Sienna Johnson before finally asking, "Aunt Sienna, look, can you find some work for my younger brother and sister?"
Sienna Johnson’s sharp gaze swept over her face as she said coolly, "Aren’t they working at the medicinal material factory? What’s wrong? Is the compensation there not good?"
Sienna Johnson had only asked casually; the wages and benefits at the medicinal material factory were actually quite good for the local area.
"Well, it’s not that it’s bad. They just want to go to a big city to see the world. I only have these two younger siblings, and I’m just hoping they can make something of themselves... Aunt Sienna, do you think you could find them jobs?"
"Sienna, take me with you! I want to see a big city. Hayley from our village went to a big city, and when she came back, she had become so pretty..." Jenny said wistfully.
Sienna Johnson wouldn’t dare take this little girl to Sileria City. She had met all kinds of people, and one look at Jenny told her she wasn’t the type to stay out of trouble. If she really took her along, who knew what trouble she might stir up! The key thing was, if something really happened, she wouldn’t be able to explain it to the Robertson Family.
Seeing Sienna Johnson’s dilemma, Bryant Robertson said, "They only graduated from middle school. They wouldn’t find any good jobs if they went. They’re better off working at the Pharmaceutical Factory."
"Brother-in-law, you might want to work at the Pharmaceutical Factory, but I don’t! I want to go to a big city; I don’t want to be stuck in this small place for the rest of my life," Jenny said ambitiously.
Rose Collins’s expression turned ugly. "Sienna’s company requires employees to be at least college graduates. With just a middle school diploma, she really can’t arrange any good jobs for you.
"And Sileria City isn’t even considered a major city."
Ashley Hopper, who was adept at reading people, saw that her mother-in-law was annoyed and quickly said, "Forget it, forget it. Aunt Sienna, please don’t be angry. I was just mentioning it casually. If it’s really too much trouble, then let’s just drop it."
Sienna Johnson chuckled softly and tapped her admonishingly, "Sister-in-law, since you’ve married my Brother, you’re now part of the Robertson Family. I hope you’ll focus more on taking care of my Brother and my mom in the future."
"I will."
Jenny started to make a scene. "I don’t care! I’m going to Sileria City! I don’t want to be cooped up in this godforsaken place! I’m already 18; I should have been married long ago. I refuse to marry some country bumpkin and suffer for the rest of my life!"
"..."
"My sister married into your Robertson Family; she’s your sister-in-law! Why don’t you listen to what my sister-in-law says? Is this how you act as a paternal aunt? Can’t you bear to see others do well..." Jenny, who had clearly been spoiled, actually threw a tantrum at Sienna Johnson in front of everyone.
Adrian Desmond started to rise, but Sienna Johnson pressed him down. No matter what, these were her Brother’s and adoptive mother’s family. They were just here for the wedding. Once they left, they would have little to do with them.
"Jenny, I don’t recall owing you anything, do I?" Sienna Johnson said coldly.
"My sister is your sister-in-law, and I’m her biological sister! How can you treat me like this?"
Bryant Robertson’s face flushed red. He glared at Ashley Hopper, wanting her to say something, but Ashley Hopper surprisingly remained silent.
Rose Collins was also furious. "Sienna can’t help you!"
"Look at them! Every one of them is rich. Anything that slips through their fingers would be enough for us to live lavishly, but they’re so incredibly stingy..."
