The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress-Chapter 556 - 557: A Farce
"Don’t forget, it was my brother-in-law’s family who raised you. If it weren’t for them, who knows what would have become of you? You certainly wouldn’t be living as well as you are now. You wouldn’t want to be an ungrateful wretch, would you?"
Jenny wasted no time in leveling a serious accusation against her.
Rose Collins’s face turned red. When she adopted Sienna, it was because her own daughter had died, and she was devastated. She’d wanted someone as an emotional anchor, so she went to the Orphanage and adopted Sienna. She never thought of getting rich off this girl. Later, the reason she’d sent Sienna back was that their family had become too impoverished, and she hadn’t wanted Sienna to suffer with them. However, she had never intended to take advantage of Sienna’s identity for personal gain. Sienna was a grateful person; over the years, the Robertson Family had received plenty of help from her. But now, someone was actually slandering her precious daughter like this.
"I raised Sienna and never expected anything in return. Though she’s not my biological child, I’ve always loved her as my own. As long as she’s doing well, I don’t need her to repay me with anything."
Bryant Robertson also declared, "That’s right! Sienna doesn’t owe the Robertson Family anything; it’s we Robertsons who owe her. The fact that our family could pay off its debts, that I could build a house and get married, is all thanks to my sister’s help. Jenny, my sister doesn’t owe our family anything, and she certainly doesn’t owe your family anything. If you dare to say such heart-stabbing words to Sienna again, don’t call me brother-in-law anymore."
"You..." Jenny was furious that everyone was siding with an outsider. "Can’t you even tell who’s family and who’s an outsider?"
"Sienna *is* my family, my closest family!" 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
Bryant knew his wife always sided with her own family, especially doting on her younger siblings. He hadn’t expected that now, when the whole family had finally gathered for a meal, Ashley Hopper would indulge Jenny in saying such things. What chilled him to the bone was wondering whether this was Jenny’s idea or Ashley’s. If it was Ashley’s, then he would have to seriously reconsider this marriage.
Jenny shouted, "Bryant, are you out of your mind? So what if she’s not your biological sister? Even if she were, once a woman marries, she belongs to her husband’s family! My sister is the one who’s your family now, the one who will bear sons for your Robertson Family and carry on the family line! Is this how you treat my sister?"
"Haven’t I been good enough to your sister? What woman, when she marries, brings her entire maiden family to live with her? Your sister brought all of you to live in my house, and have I said a word? Don’t push things too far!" Bryant, usually good-tempered, was finally incensed.
Ashley started crying. "Marvin, it’s all my fault. Jenny is my only younger sister; she’s young and insensible. Please don’t hold it against her."
"..."
"Sister-in-law, I apologize to you on my sister’s behalf. Please don’t be angry with Jenny. It’s all my fault; I didn’t raise her properly."
The Cooper elders remained silent throughout. It was Rose Collins and Bryant Robertson who were doing all the talking. Sienna observed the two Cooper elders; they should have been the heads of the family, yet they were timid and withdrawn. Clearly, they had little say in their own household.
What an interesting family, Sienna thought.
Rose Collins’s face was flushed, and she glared at her son. "Marvin, so this is the fine daughter-in-law you picked!"
"Mom, I..."
Sienna didn’t particularly care for Ashley’s family, but Ashley was, after all, her brother’s chosen wife, so she would maintain a basic level of respect. As for any future dealings with them, that would be impossible.
"Mom, let’s eat. The food’s getting cold."
Sienna’s words should have defused the situation, allowing them to move on. However, some members of Ashley’s family seemed determined to stir up trouble. After the sister’s outburst, now the brother started.
Ashley spoiled her younger siblings rotten.
Compared to Jenny, Milton Hopper was even more arrogant and clueless about the ways of the world.
"Brother-in-law, I don’t want to go to the city to work, but I want to marry Samara!"
All eyes turned to Milton Hopper. He was sixteen, not very tall, with pointed features and a shifty look—what locals would call a face that promised a meager fortune.
Bryant’s face flushed crimson, and he clenched his fists. "Milton Hopper, you worthless hound! A toad lusting after swan meat? Why don’t you take a good look at yourself in a puddle and see what sorry excuse for a person you are!"
"Bryant, how can you speak about my brother that way? What’s wrong with him? My brother is the sole male heir of our Robertson Family! When I married you, you promised you’d help take care of my younger siblings and be filial to my parents. And now you’re saying such things about my brother?"
Hearing her brother insulted like that, Ashley became upset and started arguing directly with Bryant.
"Brother-in-law, we have a tradition of ’marriage exchange’ around here. You married my sister, so what’s wrong with me marrying your sister?" Milton Hopper said, eyeing the beautiful, fairy-like Samara, not thinking for a moment that his words were offensive.
"Sister..." Samara, terrified by the scene, burst into tears.
Adrian Desmond made a move, presumably to intervene. However, it wasn’t Brett Jacobs who stepped forward, but Aaron Faber. Adrian paused for a moment, then said, "Brett, go teach him a lesson. Make him understand his mistake."
"Let me!"
Aaron Faber was seething. His Samara, lusted after by such scum! The thought filled him with disgust and fury.
He lunged forward, grabbed Milton Hopper, and rained blows on him. "What kind of trash are you? Samara? You dare even think of her? You’re courting death!"
Ashley rushed over to shield her brother, yelling, "Whoever dares to bully my brother, I’ll fight them to the death!"
"..."
"Bryant, are you even a man? My brother is being bullied like this, and you just stand there and say nothing!"
Bryant retorted, "He brought this on himself with his vile talk! Samara? Is she someone he can even fantasize about? And he actually wants to marry her? He’s utterly clueless!"
At first, Milton Hopper tried to fight back, but Aaron Faber quickly beat him to the point where he couldn’t even get up. Ever since that incident with the local hoodlums, Aaron had deeply understood the importance of physical strength. He had been training diligently with Brett Jacobs, and now, handling a few petty thugs was no problem for him, let alone a weakling like Milton Hopper.
"Sister-in-law, I’m begging you, please make them stop! He’s my only brother!" Seeing that no one was speaking up for them, Ashley Hopper had no choice but to plead with Sienna Johnson.
Sienna sipped her herbal tea, offering no response.
That Milton Hopper was truly audacious. If she didn’t teach him a lesson this time, he’d really think the Johnson Family was an easy target.
"Sister-in-law, please, I’m begging you! I swear, my brother will never dare say such things again! Please, for your nephew’s sake, let my brother go!"
Sienna remained silent.
"Marvin, if anything serious happens to my brother, I’ll take your son and die with you all!" Ashley threatened Bryant.
