The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress-Chapter 608 - 649: Concealment
"Who took Melanie Carpenter away?"
"The hospital said it was Miss Carpenter’s father who took her."
Adrian Desmond’s face filled with shock. Hearing this news was like encountering a ghost in broad daylight. "My uncle has been dead for many years," he stated.
Walter Klein naturally knew about this as well. He said, "Someone must have impersonated him."
"Who would be so bored as to impersonate someone who has been dead for so many years?"
Walter couldn’t answer this question. Upon suddenly hearing this news, his shock was no less than Adrian’s. Melanie Carpenter was an orphan with no influential backing; Walter couldn’t fathom who would be interested in her. If someone wanted to use Melanie to threaten Adrian, kidnapping Sienna Johnson and Curly, or even Sixth Master’s mother-in-law and sister-in-law, would be far more effective. Yet, they had taken Melanie from the Psychiatric Hospital.
"Find out!" Adrian ordered.
"Yes, Sixth Master!"
Walter didn’t delay. He immediately boarded the speedboat and headed to Abyanabad ahead of schedule. He planned to visit the psychiatric hospital where Melanie had stayed to investigate the full story. The hospital had surveillance, so reviewing the footage would reveal who it was.
Adrian stood at the bow of the boat, gazing at the blue ocean, his eyes profound and troubled. His hand tightly gripped the ship’s rail, his heart restless.
One Night Owl wasn’t enough; now someone else had appeared, impersonating Melanie’s father and taking her away in his name. He now had a loving wife and child and no longer wanted to live a life of bloodshed. He just wanted to protect them and live peacefully, but those people clearly didn’t intend to let him go.
"Adrian..."
After finishing her video conference, Sienna Johnson came out to the deck and saw the man standing at the bow.
His back looked cold and hard, exuding waves of murderous aura. He appeared troubled, which made Sienna very puzzled.
"What’s wrong? You don’t look happy."
"Finished with the video conference?"
"Yes. I also mentioned my plan to build a Swallow Cup processing factory."
She came to his side, standing with him at the bow, looking out at the blue ocean. Stretching lazily, she twisted her stiff neck. Because she had kept her body in one position for a long time, her joints CRACKLED as she moved. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Hearing the sound, Adrian pulled her in front of him, kneaded her shoulders, and chided, "Can’t you be more aware that you’re pregnant? How could you spend so long in a video conference?"
"I’ve been spending all day eating, drinking, and having fun with you. My work has piled up so much; it was only an hour-long video conference."
"You just love to push yourself!"
"I know, I’ll be more careful next time. ...What were you thinking about just now? You seem so heavy-hearted," Sienna asked with concern.
Adrian didn’t intend for her to know about Melanie’s situation, so he didn’t tell her.
"It’s nothing, just some minor business troubles."
Sienna frowned slightly and said understandingly, "Then go deal with your business matters. Don’t worry about me; I can visit the Swallow Cup processing factory on my own."
Adrian smiled. "It’s just a small matter. Walter can handle it for me."
Sienna looked at him enviously. "Where did you find such an all-around talent like Walter? If I had a secretary like him, I wouldn’t be so exhausted."
"You want him? I can give him to you," Adrian said generously.
"I wouldn’t dare deprive you of someone you favor so much. Sixth Master, you’d better keep him."
"He’s not the one I love; you are. If you really want him, I’ll give him to you."
"You’d better keep him."
The boat docked, and bustling Abyanabad lay right before them. Sienna gazed at Abyanabad. She observed that the small country’s economy was thriving, its environment beautiful, and its social welfare system excellent. Life in Abyanabad must be very happy, she thought.
The two went ashore, with only Brett Jacobs and Tatu accompanying them. Sienna couldn’t spot any of the bodyguards assigned to protect her.
Sienna scanned the people nearby; they all looked like ordinary passersby, not bodyguards. She shook Adrian’s arm and asked, "Can you point out which ones are my bodyguards? I can’t seem to tell."
But Adrian was distracted and didn’t hear what Sienna said. "Adrian!" she called out, a bit louder. Only then did he hear her.
"What’s wrong?" he asked, looking at her with a puzzled expression.
Sienna whispered, "It’s nothing."
The car was already waiting at the pier. Brett Jacobs opened the car door, allowing Adrian and Sienna to get in. The group then drove towards Penamtang, the largest Swallow Cup processing factory in Abyanabad.
The owner of the factory, a typical Abyanabad native, was named Thompson. He had many wives and, it was said, more than twenty sons. Hearing this, Sienna couldn’t help but feel a bit anxious for the man. It’s a good thing this is Abyanabad, with its generous welfare. If this were Orienta, just the expense of finding wives for over twenty sons and providing them with houses would be enough to worry a father to death!
"This is our factory. There are over four thousand workers here, including more than three thousand experienced older workers..." Thompson said, showing them around the factory.
"What kind of machinery does a Swallow Cup factory need?"
"Drying machines and cleaning agents, things like that. But it mainly relies on manual labor. Genuine Swallow Cups require manual feather removal, which is the most tedious part of the job. If a worker isn’t skilled, a perfectly good Swallow Cup can be ruined, and it won’t sell for a good price."
Wearing a mask, Sienna watched rows of workers sitting at their stations. In front of them lay the raw bird’s nest materials, full of fine feathers and dirt. This was a far cry from the pristine Swallow Cups sold to customers.
"President Johnson, the swallow’s nest market in Abyanabad has been saturated in recent years. I actually don’t recommend that you build a separate Swallow Cup factory. How about we cooperate instead? You provide me with raw Swallow Cup materials, and I’ll buy them from you at a high price. What do you think?"
As expected of a businessman, he was already trying to work an angle with Sienna.
Sienna smiled and said, "The domestic market currently has a huge demand, so my husband and I came to Abyanabad on holiday. We were thinking about whether we could also build a Swallow Cup processing factory to sell to the mainland. We’re still in the research phase at the moment and haven’t made any decisions yet."
What a joke! Provide them with raw Swallow Cup materials? That would be doing all the hard work just for them to reap the benefits. Everyone knows that selling raw materials always yields the lowest profit in any business.
"Alright, President Johnson. If you decide to proceed, please contact me. No matter how much raw Swallow Cup material you have, we’ll take it all."
Sienna smiled. "Alright."
They finished the tour in just an hour; after all, a Swallow Cup processing factory wasn’t exactly a high-tech industry.
Once they were back in the car, Adrian asked, "So, what are your plans? If you want to save yourself some trouble, selling the raw materials to him isn’t a bad idea."
