The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress-Chapter 614 - 655: Breaking the Appointment
"Sixth Brother, run!"
Melanie Carpenter saw that she couldn’t stop her father and could only urge Adrian Desmond to flee. However, Adrian just stood there as if stunned, allowing her father to beat and scold him. The ferocity of her father’s assault made it seem like he intended to beat him to death.
"Are you stupid? My dad’s going to kill you!"
Adrian remained motionless. He had his own agenda; he would rather his uncle beat him half to death than use his authority as an elder to force him into marrying Melanie.
Marrying Melanie was out of the question; it was utterly impossible!
Not unless he wanted to end his relationship with Sienna Johnson.
Sienna was now pregnant with his son, and Adrian couldn’t bear the thought of her running away with their child again. It had taken him several years to find her the last time. If it hadn’t been for George, he probably still wouldn’t have found Sienna.
He wasn’t sure he would be so lucky if it happened again.
Kiki had told him that Sienna suffered a major hemorrhage when she gave birth to Curly and had nearly died. Even after learning Sienna was fine, the memory still filled him with fear and trepidation.
This time, when Sienna gave birth, he wanted to be right outside the delivery room, guarding them both. No one could hurt them.
"Dad, stop it!"
"..."
"Dad, you’re going to kill Sixth Brother... Stop, I beg you!"
Among those present, only Melanie dared to intervene. The others lacked the standing and could only watch. Walter Klein could only fret helplessly.
Melanie’s health was poor. Overcome by a surge of anger and distress, she fainted and collapsed.
"Mom!" Devin Desmond shouted. Elliot Carpenter turned his head and saw his unconscious daughter on the floor. Only then did he stop.
"Melanie, what’s wrong?"
Walter Klein rushed to Adrian’s side. "Sixth Master, are you okay?"
Adrian nonchalantly said, "I won’t die."
His face was covered in blood. The white shirt he wore was stained crimson, a shocking sight.
"Are you all useless? Hurry up and call a doctor!" Elliot Carpenter roared.
Walter Klein, seeing the chaotic scene, said to Adrian, "Sixth Master, you’re hurt and need to see a doctor. Why don’t we head back first?"
"Wait."
"Don’t you need to pick up Madam?"
Only then did Adrian remember he’d arranged to pick up Sienna from the Imperial Hotel in half an hour. Looking at the chaos around him, he knew he couldn’t leave. He instructed Walter Klein, "Call Sienna. Tell her I’m caught up with something and can’t get away. Have her go back to the island by herself first."
"Yes!"
「Imperial Hotel.」
The man opposite her ate with slow, deliberate movements. Sienna grew so anxious for him to finish that, if it weren’t rude, she would have urged him to eat faster.
"Sorry, I eat slowly."
You eat slowly, so why couldn’t you just let me leave first? Sienna fumed internally.
"Orienta is a beautiful country. I’ve always wanted to visit. Miss Johnson, when are you returning to Orienta? If I go, could you be my guide?"
Sienna didn’t understand. They were merely business partners who had just met. Why did he seem so intent on latching onto her?
"I’m not sure when I’ll go back. We can discuss it if and when I do," Sienna replied, tactfully deflecting.
"I think we could be friends. We have so many common interests. Why do you always seem so distant, so hard to approach? Or is it me? Do you find me very annoying?"
Sienna didn’t know how to answer. She just smiled, picked up the glass of plain water from the table, and took a sip.
But the man persisted, "I felt an instant connection with you, Miss Johnson. I’d like to be your friend. Do you dislike me? Why?"
"I don’t dislike you. I just think... you’re being a bit too enthusiastic for a first meeting."
"That’s why I said I felt an instant connection."
Sienna wisely kept quiet.
She kept checking her watch. Adrian had said he would arrive in about half an hour. Nearly an hour had passed, and still no call.
Sienna couldn’t help but worry. She wanted to call Adrian but was conscious of the man opposite her. He seemed completely oblivious; despite seeing her frequently glance at her watch, he didn’t ask if she was in a hurry, which would have given her the perfect excuse to say she had to leave.
"I’m full." Javier Jervois put down his chopsticks and wiped his mouth with a napkin. Seeing Sienna’s visible sigh of relief, he couldn’t help but chuckle.
Sienna was baffled. "What are you laughing at?"
Javier leaned in, looking at her puzzled face. "You’ve been enduring for so long. You must be very happy I’ve finally finished eating, right?"
Sienna covered her eyes with her hand, unsure how to respond to him having guessed her thoughts so accurately.
"Let’s go."
Javier called the waiter for the bill. Sienna, considering Javier a business partner, saw no distinction between genders in this situation and instinctively reached for her wallet.
Javier’s expression instantly turned cold, his eyes chilling. Sienna suddenly felt as if she, in her thin summer dress, had been plunged into the dead of winter.
"This is Abyanabad. In Abyanabad, when men and women dine together, the woman never pays! Sienna, are you looking down on me?"
Having known Adrian for so long, Sienna was well aware of the peculiar customs of Abyanabadi men.
"We’re business partners. This meal should be on me," Sienna insisted, though her heart wasn’t in it. I’m never going out to eat with this man again, she thought. He’s such a chatterbox. How can one man talk so much?
"What bad things are you thinking about me now?"
"Nothing."
"Oh, I forgot, you’re an Orientan woman. Alright then, you pay this time, and I’ll pay next time." Javier reconsidered, and he smiled. "I look forward to our next meeting."
Sienna hesitated. It wasn’t vanity; the man’s overt interest was making her, a married woman, increasingly uncomfortable.
Besides, our Sixth Master is an incredibly jealous man, she mused. If he found out this man was showing such ’strong interest’ in me, this fellow would be in serious trouble.
Sienna’s phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID—it wasn’t Adrian, but Walter Klein. A wave of relief washed over her. "I have to go," she said to Javier. "My husband is here to pick me up." 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
"See you next time."
Sienna nodded, answered the call, and walked away, still on the phone. Brett Jacobs and Tatu followed, maintaining a discreet but protective distance.
"Hello?"
"Madam, Sixth Master asked me to tell you he’s caught up with something and can’t pick you up. He wants you to return to the island by yourself."
