Chapter 625: Chapter 666: An Explanation, Forced by Circumstances

As soon as Night Owl plunged into the sea, several people rushed out from their hiding spot, passing Sienna Johnson. They fired at the sea, but the water merely rippled; there was no sign of Night Owl.

Adrian Desmond’s subordinates tried to pursue him, but Adrian stopped them, "Come back, you’re no match for him!"

Adrian tossed aside his handgun and rushed towards the woman on the ground, gathering her into his arms.

"Sienna!" he cried, picking her up, his face etched with anxiety. "I’ll take you to the hospital. You’ll be alright!"

Adrian saw the blood flowing from between her legs. He had underestimated her courage; in the end, she was just a fragile woman.

Sienna could feel life draining from her. If not for the pain in her abdomen, she would have thought she was already dead. She looked at the man before her calmly and delivered her last words.

"Can you please escort Curly and my family back to Sileria City? Sell off Eastminster Group and give all the money to my grandmother. She will handle the rest..."

"You’re not going to die!"

"Adrian, you shot me in the heart!"

"I’m a good shot! It might look like the heart, but it’s not actually the heart!" Adrian said incoherently, a stark contrast to the ruthless, cold, and cruel man he had been just moments before.

"If I die, please do as I’ve asked!" After speaking, Sienna closed her eyes, her final glance seeming to welcome death.

"Sienna, don’t sleep! Everything will be fine. Trust me!"

"..."

"Since I dared to pull the trigger, I was sure you’d be fine," he whispered in her ear. "How could I bear to let you die?"

Sienna, in her daze, heard Adrian’s last words and retorted in her heart, If you couldn’t bear for me to die, why did you still shoot? You knew perfectly well that man would use my body as a shield for himself!

...

The last thing Sienna remembered was being held in Adrian’s arms; then she knew nothing more.

She seemed to have had a nightmare.

It was a chaotic dream. She dreamt of being pursued, of being hunted in the jungles of Himakati. She also dreamed of the small cabin in the valley where she and Adrian had stayed while on the run.

In that small cabin, Adrian, dressed in black, emerged holding a machine gun and sprayed bullets towards her. Sienna ran desperately. When she finally thought she was safe, she realized her unborn child was gone.

She didn’t care that Adrian wanted to kill her. She turned back, rummaging through the undergrowth, searching endlessly for her child. Finally, she saw a tiny baby in Night Owl’s hands...

Night Owl held a sharp dagger, gesturing over the child and muttering, "Now, where should I begin?"

"No!"

Sienna rushed forward. The dagger was suddenly thrust at her, and she ran right into it, the blade piercing her chest.

"Sienna! Wake up, you’re having a nightmare!"

Severe pain emanated from her chest. Her body recoiled from the force, but a warmth enveloped her as someone steadily supported her. Sienna looked up, and the face before her gradually sharpened. "Adrian..."

"Did you have a nightmare?"

Sienna couldn’t distinguish between reality and her dream. "...I dreamt that you shot me."

The pain in her chest was so vivid, a stark reminder that what had just happened was no dream; it was all real.

Sienna trembled again. Adrian held her tightly and looked behind her. "Little Ninth, how is she?"

"Nothing serious, just overly frightened. It disturbed her pregnancy," Little Ninth replied.

"The baby, the baby..." Sienna began agitatedly. Adrian held her down, looked into her eyes, and said, "Listen, your pregnancy was disturbed, but as long as you take good care of yourself, you and the baby will be fine!"

Sienna didn’t believe him. She touched her stomach; there was no fetal movement, but she could feel the hard lump in her belly. The baby was still there; she hadn’t lost it. Sienna let out a long sigh of relief and finally calmed down. No matter what, at least the baby is still inside me.

"Sister-in-law, he’s fine. I gave you an injection to protect the baby. Just take good care of yourself, and you’ll definitely give birth to a healthy baby," Little Ninth comforted Sienna. She nodded at him in gratitude.

"Little Ninth, can you step out for a moment?"

"Okay, I’ll be going then. Sister-in-law, if you have any problems, call me."

"Okay."

Adrian held Sienna, looking down into her eyes. A coldness settled in Sienna’s eyes.

Sienna couldn’t help recalling the scene on the pier. Night Owl had cut her neck, and Adrian hadn’t even flinched, as if she were some insignificant creature.

Adrian knew Sienna held a grudge against him, and he explained, "The bullet was specially made; it wasn’t a real one. It was a rubber bullet. But rubber bullets can also cause injury and bleeding. Anyone who didn’t know the truth would think you’d actually been shot."

"..."

"I knew Night Owl would use you as a shield. Don’t blame me for being heartless. In that situation, I had no choice." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

Sienna didn’t speak; she still hadn’t recovered from the shock.

"...All twenty of your bodyguards were killed. That man is terrifying. I couldn’t let him take you. If he had taken you, your situation would be even more dangerous."

"..."

"I could only shoot at you to make him believe you weren’t important to me. Fortunately, I deceived him."

Sienna’s neck was injured and wrapped in gauze. Talking agitated the wound, causing twinges of pain.

"Who on earth is this Night Owl?"

"He’s the son of the boss of an assassination organization!"

"How did you get involved with someone like that?"

Sienna felt a lingering fear. What little fondness she’d developed for Abyanabad had vanished. This experience also made Sienna completely abandon her plan to establish a bird’s nest processing factory. Even if it promised immense profits, she wouldn’t go near it again.

The Johnson family still needed her; her child was still small. Sienna was truly afraid of death, terrified.

Her grandmother was old, and there was no telling how much longer she would live. Given the personalities of Pauline Briggs and Samara, they could be bullied to death without protection. Curly had been spoiled and raised to be arrogant, now fearing no one. So many concerns made Sienna timid and hesitant.

"Don’t be afraid. As long as you stay obediently by my side, he won’t have another chance to hurt you." Adrian hugged the woman in his arms tightly, as if he were holding his entire world.

His apparent calm when facing Night Owl had all been an act. Only he knew how terrified he had been at that moment.

Seeking to protect herself, Sienna said, "Adrian, I want to return to Sileria City. It’s too terrifying here, not suitable for ordinary people like me."
