Chapter 629: Chapter 670: The Night Owl’s Wish

"Since you are willing to serve me until your death, I will grant you your wish."

Night Owl loathed those who didn’t appreciate his kindness. Since this woman dared to put on an act in front of him, he no longer cared to play games with her.

"Get out!"

Alice didn’t move. Night Owl watched the duplicitous woman with a contemptuous smile in his eyes. "What? Regretting it already?"

"..."

"Foolish and pathetic woman!"

Alice, of course, wanted to leave the organization. She yearned to live like an ordinary woman and experience the kind of happiness Sienna Johnson had. However, she couldn’t fathom Night Owl’s true intentions. What if this is just a test? A test of her loyalty?

Night Owl hated betrayal more than anything. Anyone who betrayed him met a miserable end.

Bill’s smile echoed in her mind. After so many years together, she’d never seen him genuinely smile. The occasional slight curve of his lips couldn’t quite hide a trace of mirth, and his eyes had never held anyone. Now, finally, there was someone reflected in his eyes, only it wasn’t her.

She knelt on the ground, her fists clenched tightly. The desire she had forcibly suppressed for so long broke free of its cage and escaped. She wanted it. She wanted it desperately.

Night Owl looked at the pitiful woman, grabbed the front of her clothes, and hauled her up. "Alice, you want to run away, don’t you? You want to become that woman, Sienna Johnson, don’t you? She’s so happy; don’t you want to take her place?"

"Master, what do you want me to do?"

Unable to resist the temptation, Alice finally voiced her deepest desire. She envied Sienna Johnson’s radiant and captivating face. People living on Death Island are nothing more than walking corpses, hollow shells.

"Alice, you should ask yourself what you truly want...

Whatever you want, take it!

Bill, the man you love, don’t you want him?"

"But he loves Sienna Johnson, not me."

"So what? Bill broke his promise back then, abandoned you, and ran off alone. Now he’s living so happily. You should hate him! You should get your revenge! And the best way to do that is to shatter everything he possesses, piece by piece, and destroy everyone he cares about, one by one!"

Alice lowered her head, saying nothing.

Night Owl loathed Alice’s lifeless demeanor. He grabbed her by the collar and flung her away.

Alice’s lower abdomen slammed hard against the edge of the table behind her. Even though she was accustomed to pain, she still furrowed her brows but dared not make a sound.

Night Owl took a few steps, towering over her as he stood before her. "Alice, I’m giving you a chance to leave the organization!"

"I dare not!"

"If you dare to be duplicitous with me again, I’ll cut your tongue out!" Night Owl crouched down, his slender fingers tilting up Alice’s chin. He was losing patience. If this woman didn’t still have some use, Night Owl would have killed her long ago.

"Yes!" Alice knelt on the ground, not daring to even breathe too loudly.

"Bill is looking for you. I want you to get close to him, destroy his relationship with Sienna Johnson... If you can make Bill fall in love with you and abandon Sienna Johnson, that would be best." Night Owl pressed a sharp dagger into her hand. "If you can’t, then plunge this dagger into Bill’s heart! Carve out his heart and bring it back to me!"

"..."

"Bill still owes me a heart!" Night Owl placed his hand on his own chest. It was an artificial heart, incapable of joy, anger, sorrow, or happiness—emotionless, like a machine. This feeling is unbearable, he thought, and I want Bill to experience it too.

The dagger nearly slipped from Alice’s grasp and clattered to the floor.

That man would never fall in love with me. We were together for so many years; if he was ever going to love me, he would have by now. So... Alice looked at the dagger glinting coldly in her hand, cold sweat beading on her forehead.

Should I kill Bill?

If I kill Bill, I’ll be free.

I could live like a normal woman, no longer forced to kill, no longer fearing being killed. I could even fall in love with an ordinary man, maybe get married, or have a child... It’s so tempting.

"Go! I’ll be waiting for your good news!" Night Owl looked down, expressionless, at the woman who was clearly swayed. Humans are so greedy, he mused. They always want what they don’t have.

"Yes!" Alice clutched the dagger tightly, as if it were the key to her freedom, and quickly backed out of the room.

Night Owl walked out of the cabin and onto the deck. A meteor shower was beginning in the sky, and a school of flying fish was migrating. Winged fish leaped out of the water, their backs colored like the sea. They moved in formation across the water’s surface. Against the deep blue expanse of the sea, the sight of the flying fish, now visible, now hidden, as they broke through the waves, was truly spectacular.

"...I really just wanted to bring you here to see this. Such beautiful scenery, and you’re not here to see it. What a pity. The next meteor shower won’t be for another three years," Night Owl murmured.

"..."

"Idiot. If I truly wanted to kidnap you, do you think you could have escaped?"

A flying fish, veering off course, flew straight at Night Owl’s face. He snatched it by the head, and with a squeeze, crushed its skull before tossing it into the sea.

Hydrogen emerged, holding a clean towel, and handed it to Night Owl. Night Owl wiped the blood from his hands and tossed the towel back to Hydrogen. Hydrogen took the towel and departed, leaving Night Owl alone to appreciate the scenery.

A dazzling meteor streaked across the sky above him...

He gazed up at the starry expanse, watching the meteors fall one by one. He had heard that if you make a wish during a meteor shower, it will come true.

His wish?

Night Owl pondered. Initially, I wanted to wish for Adrian Desmond’s unhappiness, he thought. But then, an image of Sienna Johnson’s smiling face flashed through his mind, and his thoughts shifted. Night Owl’s wish changed.

His wish was this: He hoped that the woman named Sienna Johnson would fall in love with him!

And once Sienna Johnson had fallen completely and utterly in love with him, he would cruelly dump her. He would make sure she could never smile again!

...

「At the Desmond Family residence」

Due to some pregnancy-related instability, Sienna Johnson was resting at the Desmond residence and hadn’t returned to the island for the time being. When Curly saw that her mommy and daddy weren’t coming back, she called them.

"Hmph! You’re off having fun by yourselves and don’t care about Curly anymore! I don’t like you anymore!" Curly said, throwing a tantrum.

"Mommy isn’t having fun with Daddy; Mommy is working."

"You’re lying! Work is back home. This is Abyanabad; we came to Abyanabad to have fun! You must think I’m a third wheel, so you brought me all the way here just to ditch me!"

Curly’s know-it-all tone left Sienna Johnson not knowing whether to laugh or cry.

"Really, I swear!"

"You tell your husband I don’t like *you* anymore!"

"Hey, Curly—"

The call disconnected. Sienna Johnson stared at the dark phone screen, completely at a loss for words.
