The nun who had stepped out of the private prayer room paused, glancing back at the door. A shallow breath escaped her before she resumed walking.
As she moved down the corridor, she spotted a little girl heading toward her, with the silver-eyed man following behind.
"Mother~!" the little girl called cheerfully, waving.
The nun smiled softly and ruffled the girl’s hair as she hugged her tightly.
"It seems the two of you were together," she hummed, lifting her gaze to the silver-eyed man. "Did she give you another headache, Roth?"
Roth shook his head.
"I told you to scold her if necessary," the nun chuckled warmly. "Still, thank you for looking out for her. She can be quite a handful."
"Not at all, Mother," Roth replied, lowering his head. "I’ll return to my post."
The nun nodded and watched him turn on his heel. After he had taken a few steps, she noticed the little girl smiling.
"Roth," she called.
He paused mid-step.
"The other sisters and the children baked some bread to distribute to the orphans under the church," she said gently.
Roth turned to face her.
"Could you help us pack them? We’re short on hands and could truly use the help."
As always, Roth revealed nothing of his thoughts. His gaze shifted briefly from the nun to the little girl hugging her. The girl suddenly let go and rushed to him, grabbing his hand.
"Roth, let’s go!" she chirped happily. "You’re not going to refuse Mother’s request, right?"
It wasn’t as though Roth didn’t realize the nun—whom they called Mother—was fully aware of where he had been stationed tonight. Nevertheless, he lowered his head and allowed the girl to tug him along.
Watching them leave, the nun smiled faintly before turning toward a small window at the side.
"What a quiet night," she murmured with a soft chuckle. "If only every night were this quiet and peaceful."
She lingered for a moment before following the direction Roth and the girl had taken.
She passed barely anyone along the way. Even after stepping outside into the open corridor, the grounds were nearly empty. But as she continued, she encountered a young nun walking toward her.
The young nun carried a small tray with a Bible and several items used for Mass. Her head was lowered, her steps careful as she passed the Reverend Mother—the head of the Holy Convent, appointed by the Pope himself.
"Good evening, Mother," the young nun greeted politely, continuing forward.
The Reverend Mother took a few more steps before stopping. "Do not go in there."
The young nun flinched and halted. Slowly, she turned back toward the older woman, who was smiling gently.
"I have never seen you here before," the Reverend Mother said calmly. The words caused a flicker of tension to cross the young nun’s face. "However, I have seen you somewhere else."
The young nun’s eyes widened. Her heart seemed to slow. The hand holding the tray trembled, ready to flip it over and grab the weapon hidden beneath the Bible.
"Do not worry, Miss Scarlet," the Reverend Mother continued with the same composed smile. "Your secret is safe with me." 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Scarlet, disguised in a nun’s habit, stared at the leader of the sisterhood with conflicted emotions. "You—"
"The church is a close-knit community," the Reverend Mother remarked lightly. "Unfamiliar faces are easily noticed. Even so, I advise you not to go in there. You may mistake it for lax security, but the Holy Knights follow the Cardinal without question, as he acts as His Holiness’s proxy."
"If you intend to kill him, you will need more than yourself," she added calmly, as if discussing the weather. "However, I suggest you help us pack the bread we baked for the children in the orphanages."
"What?" Scarlet blurted, utterly confused.
She had seen the Reverend Mother during their infiltration and had blended in with the other nuns without suspicion. Yet now, this woman spoke as if she had seen through everything.
"Come," the Reverend Mother urged gently. "Do not worry. The Cardinal has yet to realize that you and your group have infiltrated the Holy Land. Atlas Zorken will handle him far more effectively than either of us. As for this task... we truly need the extra hands."
Scarlet scoffed. "Are you kidding me?"
She opened her mouth to speak but found herself at a loss. A part of her was alarmed that this woman knew about their infiltration. If she knew, why hadn’t they made a move?
Or... is their plan already in motion? Are we just dancing to their tune?
"If you are unwilling, I will not stop you," the Reverend Mother said serenely. "Go ahead and proceed inside. But do not say I failed to warn you."
With that, she turned to leave, then paused once more.
"If you change your mind, we are in the convent’s west wing," she added, glancing over her shoulder. "May God cover you with His holy blood and grant you protection, Miss Scarlet."
This time, she walked away without hesitation.
Scarlet remained rooted in place, the evening breeze filling the heavy silence.
"What in the world is going on here?" she muttered, brows furrowed. "Why... is this place so strange?"

At the same time, someone else was thinking the same thing.
"Wow," Vito whispered in awe, dressed in a priest’s robe while swaggering around like a gangster. "This place is so freaking weird!"
A hand suddenly slapped over his mouth.
"Are you crazy?!" Chuck hissed, his swollen face barely concealed by his disguise. "Why don’t you just go to the broadcast room and announce it?"
Vito’s brows twitched as he peeled Chuck’s hand away. "Good idea, champ. Let’s go."
"Huh?" Chuck blinked as Vito strutted forward, clearly enjoying the costume. "Hey, where are you—"
"Broadcast room!" Vito called over his shoulder, smirking. "I’ll tell everyone how fucking weird they are! This place... I feel like it needs an exorcism!"
He laughed maniacally as he continued walking, leaving Chuck nearly hyperventilating.
"Exorcism?" Chuck gasped, chasing after him and grabbing his arm. "You’re the one who needs an exorcism! Let’s go! We still have to find the Madam and the others!"
