The Billionaire's New Wife in Chief-Chapter 994 - 393: Song Qiao and Her Son’s Interactions II
Lu Jingchen glanced at Song Qiao and started picking up food for her with his chopsticks.
Song Qiao turned her head to look at Lu Jingchen, stayed silent, but lowered her head and began to eat seriously.
Lu Jingchen looked at the little guy beside him, his thin lips opening slightly, speaking gently, "Didn’t you say if mom had dinner with us, you’d pick up some food for her?"
The little guy paused in his eating, looked up at Lu Jingchen, and was momentarily at a loss for words, not knowing how to respond. He didn’t really pick up any food for Song Qiao, and his small face blushed a bit.
By the end of the meal, the little guy had eaten quite a lot, and Song Qiao, happy to see her son, also ate quite a bit.
After dinner, Song Qiao, not wanting to feel like she was there just for the meal, voluntarily offered to help Lu Jingchen wash the dishes. Lu Jingchen didn’t refuse; instead, he washed the dishes while Song Qiao rinsed them and put them in the sanitizer.
Initially, no one spoke in the kitchen, but finally, Song Qiao couldn’t hold back and said softly to Lu Jingchen, "Lu Jingchen, thank you."
The man paused in his dishwashing, glanced sideways, clearly knowing what she meant but pretending not to, and directly asked, "Thank me for what?"
Song Qiao was startled, a smile appearing on her lips as she directly said, "Thank you for letting me see my son."
Also thank him for being so good to me.
She wasn’t oblivious to Lu Jingchen’s feelings for her; it was just that neither of them had said it out loud.
After handing the last dish to Song Qiao, Lu Jingchen wiped his hands with a towel, then looked at Song Qiao, his voice hoarse with a touch of raspiness, "Haven’t I shown my feelings for you clear enough? Would you come back to my side?"
Song Qiao, who was rinsing a dish, was startled at Lu Jingchen’s words, causing the dish to slip from her hand, falling into the water without breaking because the sink was full.
But her own hand below still got slightly hit.
Standing right next to her, Lu Jingchen naturally saw this and furrowed his brow, stepping forward to grab her hand, a bit of anger in his voice, "How could you be so careless? Don’t you feel pain?"
His large hand over hers made her flinch slightly, wanting to retract her hand, but Lu Jingchen held tightly.
Actually, Song Qiao didn’t feel any pain; maybe her skin reddened easily. Even though she was hit lightly, it turned out a bit red.
Watching him seriously looking at her hand, Song Qiao bit her lip, her voice softening, "I’m fine... it didn’t hit hard..."
Nevertheless, the man still didn’t let go, carefully examining for a while before letting her hand go, "Don’t be so careless next time, or it’ll really hurt if you get hit."
Song Qiao, "...If it weren’t for you scaring me with your words, would I have been hit?"
But she didn’t say this to Lu Jingchen directly.
When they came out of the kitchen, Song Qiao felt a bit confused.
She never imagined that upon returning to the country, she would get along with Lu Jingchen so peacefully, something she hadn’t anticipated from the beginning.
It now seems that it was her own extreme stance from the start, responding poorly to whatever Lu Jingchen said, realizing now that letting down her guard and prejudice makes peaceful coexistence not too hard.
More so, seeing her son, knowing that Lu Jingchen has raised him well and taught him good manners, brought her relief.
Initially, she held many prejudices against Lu Jingchen due to the events five years ago, bearing many grievances.
But now, many of those have eased.
However, considering accepting Lu Jingchen and getting back together, Song Qiao feels she can’t handle it all at once.
In the living room, Lu Wangshu sat on the carpet playing with building blocks, piling them high and pulling them out one by one.
Song Qiao stood watching her son, wanting to go over but unable to move her feet.
Lu Jingchen, standing beside Song Qiao, glanced at her before turning his attention to his son, speaking softly, "Song Qiao, have you ever thought about how he lived these five years without a mother?"
Song Qiao froze at Lu Jingchen’s words.
She understood the implication in Lu Jingchen’s words.
She knew from experience in a single-parent household how it could affect a child, as her daughter had once asked where her father was, why others had a dad, and she didn’t.
Each time her daughter asked, Song Qiao didn’t know how to answer properly, so she always lied, saying her father was busy working and couldn’t come to see her, not that she didn’t have a dad.
Before Song Qiao could respond, Lu Jingchen continued, "Song Qiao, do you know? His first word wasn’t anything else, but ’mom,’ yet you weren’t there. As he got older, he kept asking where his mom was. I can’t possibly tell him she didn’t want him, can I?"
Song Qiao’s body stiffened even more, and her eyes couldn’t help but redden.
For her son, she genuinely felt she had wronged him over these years.
When he was brought to Lu Jingchen by Ning Wan, he was still nursing. Parting with him was incredibly hard for her.
Lu Jingchen glanced at her, noticing her eyes reddened, having hit a sore point, making him a bit soft-hearted.
Yet, recalling how she had lived with another man over the years, keeping him from finding them, his softened heart turned cold again, lips curling into a mocking smile, "Song Qiao, I sometimes wonder, do you even have a heart?"
Song Qiao’s lips moved, but she couldn’t say a word.
Lu Jingchen turned his gaze away from her and focused on the little boy playing, softly calling, "Wangshu, come here. Daddy will take you for a bath."
