Chapter 111: Final Encounter with the Tutor (1)

"Are you absolutely sure—" Evan began, standing in front of Eternity as she occupied one of the dining chairs inside a cafe.

"Yes, Evan," Eternity said impatiently, massaging the bridge of her nose in irritation. "I’m absolutely sure that I don’t need you hovering behind me while I wait for Olivia to arrive."

"But—" he tried to argue.

"What could she possibly do to me?" Eternity pointed out with an exasperated sigh. "And if she does something funny—which I doubt—we both know that I’m more than capable of protecting myself."

"But—" Evan tried again.

"Evan," Neither of them believed it was possible, but Eternity sounded more pissed than she already did than the previous times.

Thankfully, even though Eternity said it quite loudly, it was still quite early in the morning, so there weren’t many customers yet in the cafe that Evan suggested be her meeting place with Olivia.

This was a cafe that Evan and Cynthia used to go to when they were teenagers. Since it was an old cafe, it didn’t follow the aesthetics that modern, newly-established cafes had. This was why it usually had few customers: it wasn’t deemed attractive enough by social climbers and social media influencers.

Still, it was considered a hidden gem by its patrons.

"Please." She was literally begging this time. "You said that you’re finally going to let me join the real world, but you won’t even let me talk to my harmless, teenage tutor to say my goodbyes?"

"I wouldn’t say harmless..." Evan insisted weakly.

"Please, Evan," she pleaded firmly. "Just let me handle this on my own. Go to your office already. You’re going to be late."

At the mere mention of the word "late," Evan quickly raised his wrist to his face in order to glance at his expensive gold watch. His blue eyes grew as wide as saucers as he read the time and he swore under his breath.

With a defeated huff, he lowered his watch to his side and looked at Eternity.

"You’re right." He admitted begrudgingly. "I don’t want to be a bad example to my workers by being late so I’ll leave you to your own devices."

Evan lowered to her level, since Eternity was still sitting on the chair, and gave her a kiss on the forehead.

"You take care, okay?" He whispered against her ear before pulling away. "I’ll see you later, Eternity."

"See you," she replied, a grateful, tired smile on her lips.

Evan gave her one last tender smile before he turned his heels and left the establishment, the doorbell chiming as he did. The few customers in the cafe—the majority of them were female—shifted their gaze from Evan’s leaving form to Eternity.

Upon seeing Eternity’s beauty, their faces turned from their original starry-eyed expressions to contempt and jealousy. It took a couple of seconds before they went back to their coffees and breakfasts, minding their own business.

’Women will bring other women down,’ Eternity thought, unimpressed by the jealousy that was once overflowing inside the room.

"Good morning, Ma’am!" A waitress named ’Cel’, at least as stated on her nameplate, greeted her jovially before passing a laminated piece of paper to Eternity, to which she timidly accepted. "Here’s our menu. But while you’re looking at our selection, do you want some coffee or tea?"

Eternity forced a smile as she shook her head.

"Thank you, but I think I’ll order once my companion arrives."

"This is very much noted, ma’am." Cel nodded, and Eternity returned the menu to her. "Don’t hesitate to call me when you’re ready to order."

Once she turned around and headed back to the counter, Eternity was left alone on her own. She felt awkward not ordering anything, knowing she was occupying a precious table that other customers could’ve used for themselves. But as an Eternity Woman, she could not eat or drink food.

If there were ever a situation where she would be forced to consume them, she’d have to find a private area where she could expel them. Though she hadn’t encountered a situation yet where she was forced to eat, it was an innate knowledge in her system as a Doll that she should never do it.

"Oh, hey," A voice called out to her right. "You’re already here."

Eternity snapped out of her contemplation and saw that Olivia had already arrived. She was so deep in her thoughts that she didn’t even hear the cafe door’s chime when Olivia opened it.

"Good morning to you, too, Olivia." Eternity smiled, resting her elbows on top of the table. "Come sit with me."

Olivia nodded, and she walked toward Eternity’s table and occupied the chair in front of her. Once she was seated comfortably, Eternity motioned for Cel at the counter to come over with the menu. The waitress nodded and headed to their table to hand out the menus.

"Order whatever you want, Olivia, it’s on me today. Oh, no, thank you. I’m on a diet." Eternity explained, declining to accept the second menu Cel was holding.

"Are you sure, ma’am?" Cel asked.

"I’m positive."

Olivia raised an eyebrow at Eternity as she took the menu from Cel’s hand. Although she should’ve been used to Eternity’s avoidance of food at this point in their relationship.

They had known each other for a month and a couple of weeks already, after all.

Once Cel took Olivia’s order, she left, and the two were left alone.

"So," Olivia drawled. "What’s with the sudden meeting?"

Her pair of moss-green eyes widened, and her whole body stiffened.

"What do you mean?" Eternity asked, feigning ignorance.

Olivia knitted her eyebrows together, crossing her arms to her chest.

"I’m not dumb, Eternity," she said, her tone evidently hurt. "You called me out here in a posh cafe in an early Monday morning? There’s definitely something going on."

’Crap,’ Eternity swore internally. ’I wanted to start with some harmless chitchat first, but Olivia’s forcing me to say the truth already!’

Seeing Eternity’s panicked expression, Olivia took a deep inhale and sighed.

"Tell me, Eternity," she began with a solemn voice. "Are you firing me?"
