The CEO's Seductive Doll-Chapter 113: Some Day with the Doll
"I’m home," Eternity said to no one in particular as she entered the apartment and closed the door behind her.
After informing Olivia that she was officially graduating as a homeschooler, they made a friendly chitchat as the tutor ate her breakfast. But as soon as Olivia was done with her meal, Eternity decided it was already time to go.
"I’ll see you again soon?" Olivia smiled, her eyes were gleaming with hope.
Eternity could only present a stiff smile as she nodded.
Now back in the apartment, she headed to the living room, where she was planning to lounge on the sofa.
"Hey."
But unexpectedly, it was already occupied.
Eternity blinked as if making sure that her eyes weren’t playing games with her. She glanced at the digital wall clock and frowned upon reading that it was only a few minutes after 10.
"What are you doing here?" Eternity asked as she waltzed towards Evan, sitting in the empty space on the seat beside him.
"This is my apartment," Evan reminded her, a slight curve forming at the edge of his lips.
She rolled her eyes.
"You know what I mean!"
Evan chuckled, a sound that he had been making more frequently lately, ever since Eternity entered his life.
"I was worried about you," Evan said, his tone serious this time. "I know you’re going to say
Olivia’s just a kid, and she couldn’t probably do anything that could harm you."
"But you’re just paranoid?" She supplied for him.
Evan opened his mouth to answer, but not a single sound escaped from his lips. After a second, he looked away, a blush painted on his cheeks as he nodded shyly.
Eternity couldn’t help but grin at his timid demeanor, much to his chagrin. To pacify him, she entangled her fingers with Evan’s, which were previously just resting on top of the sofa.
"I love you."
Evan finally looked up, his head snapping in her direction.
"I—" he tried to speak, but for some reason, he found himself dumbfounded.
Eternity giggled, shaking her head in dismissal. Although he wasn’t an idiot to guess that her action had a mix of disappointment.
Suddenly, her expression morphed into utter blankness.
Evan tilted his head to the side in confusion. This was a mannerism he learned from Eternity.
"What’s wrong?" He asked.
"I just realized that I don’t remember you ever saying those words back to me." Eternity said, with an unmistakable presence of sadness glinting in her eyes.
’Sadness and disappointment, the ultimate combination,’ Evan thought dryly.
"But I..." Still, Evan tried to reason out his actions. "Don’t you think it’s too early to say those words in a relationship with a duration of only less than three months?"
Eternity gave her a blank look.
"Let me get this straight," she said, narrowing her eyes at him. "You think it’s fine to have sex on the first day we got together but it’s too early to say ’I love you’ when we’ve already started dating for three months?"
"Almost three months," he corrected.
But Eternity merely rolled her eyes. "Now’s not the time to be a perfectionist with numbers, Evan."
"I’m a businessman," Evan insisted rather defensively. "Numbers are what keeps my business afloat—"
He wanted to say more, but Eternity looked unimpressed with him, her lips forming a white, straight line.
Clearly, this wasn’t the point of what Eternity was arguing about, and Evan was aware that he was unintentionally changing the topic.
With a heavy sigh, Evan slumped on the backrest of the sofa, the furniture creaking a little at his weight. Eternity crossed her arms, her fingers tapping on her forearm, waiting for Evan to speak and give an acceptable explanation.
But he only kept silent and stared at the carpeted floor of the living room.
Eternity closed her eyes and began rubbing her temples. Evan wasn’t sure if she was capable of getting a headache, or if she was just copying human mannerism to indicate her annoyance.
A moment had passed, and still, neither of them spoke a word.
Seeing that they were going nowhere, Eternity rested her back on the sofa as well with a loud thud.
Another moment of awkward silence passed between them. Evan shifted his eyes to meet Eternity’s, but she was also staring at the carpet as if there was some invisible creature that caught her attention. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"... I’m sorry," Evan said at least, breaking the silence between them.
She finally looked at him, her emerald eyes wide with surprise.
"What for?"
"Because I can’t say it back to you yet." He whispered, biting his inner cheek, until he tasted the unmistakable taste of metal tainting his tongue. "Those words you want to hear."
Eternity sat up straight and shifted her position on the sofa. Now, her whole body was facing him, and her hands were resting on her lap.
They were noticeably balled into fists.
"I should be the one saying sorry," Eternity whispered back, much to Evan’s surprise. "Remember, I told you back then that I was willing to wait until you were ready to say it back to me. It was immature of me to get angry because you still can’t reciprocate them."
She paused before placing her hand on his thighs, sending shivers down Evan’s spine.
"Even if you can’t say it, at least through your actions, I know that you love me. For me, that’s enough for now."
’For now,’ Evan repeated in his head.
He interlaced his fingers on the hand that was on his lap, filling the spaces in between them like he was born and meant to do so.
"I promise to say them back to you," he said, gripping her hand tightly, giving it two pumps. "Some day."
"Some day," Eternity echoed, nodding her head. "Now, aren’t you going to ask me how my breakfast with Olivia went?" She grinned, changing the topic.
The mood considerably lightened between them, and Evan dutifully obliged her.
"How did things go with Olivia?"
"I said to her you’re going to look and provide her next internship location."
"You said WHAT?!"
