The CEO's Seductive Doll-Chapter 116: The Doll’s Face Card
After an hour or so, the orientation ended.
Soon, the new recruits were exiting the conference room. There were low murmurs as they formed a line as they left the room, exclaiming their excitement and nervousness at officially starting their first day at work.
Meanwhile, Eternity decided to remain in her seat and wait until most of them were gone before leaving the room.
But judging from how they were barely moving because God knew why, she might end up sitting on her chair a bit longer.
"I wonder if I’ll be able to see the CEO again." A female colleague giggled as she waited for the line to move. "He was so handsome and cool a while ago!"
"You wish!" The woman next to her responded. "The only way for you to even have a glimpse of him is if you work in the executive office."
"Such a bummer!" She sighed exaggeratedly.
Soon the two were out of earshot as the line progressed. Eternity watched silently at their disappearing form down the exit , wondering if those girls would be jealous once they found out she was Evan’s personal secretary.
’Well, it doesn’t really matter,’ Eternity thought dismissively. ’What does matter is if people find out that the only reason I got in the company is because I’m Evan’s girlfriend.’
"What’s taking the line so long?!" A familiar voice complained.
Eternity turned her head to the voice’s direction and saw the baby-faced co-worker standing a few feet away from her, standing at the back like he had the same plan as Eternity to wait for the decongestion of the people before heading out himself.
He must’ve felt someone was staring piercingly at him because he glanced at Eternity before doing a surprised doubletake.
"Miss Doll!" He exclaimed in a high-pitched voice that sounded grating to the ears, especially because it was coming from a man.
Though Eternity had a feeling he wasn’t your typical masculine-conforming man.
He walked toward her, a huge smile plastered on his face, as if they were long-lost friends who had finally reunited.
"Hi there," Eternity greeted back sheepishly, even more so when she realized that she didn’t know his name but he knew hers. "Mister...?"
"Oh, just call me J!" J said, making the universal gesture for ’silly you!’ "Like the letter. "
"Mister J?" She asked.
"Just ’J,’" J clarified. "No need to call me, ’Sir.’ We’re both new hires here!"
He laughed heartily, and Eternity felt like it was an obligation to laugh, so she awkwardly joined in.
Just in time, saving Eternity from her misery, the queue started moving faster until almost everyone was out of the room.
Except for the two of them and a utility staff cleaning the room.
"Well," Eternity stood up from her chair, timidly gesturing at the doorway. "I’ll be taking my leave now, J. Nice seeing you."
Eternity turned her heels and was about to head to the door when J grabbed her wrist, effectively stopping her.
"Wait!" J shouted, his voice echoing in the room.
Eternity was completely taken aback. Both by the fact that he was gripping her wrist so tightly and that there was no need for him to speak so loudly since they were literally at face-to-face distance from each other.
"Y-yes?" Eternity turned around to meet his gaze, obviously distressed and wincing a little from his grip.
J must’ve taken her expression as her cue to let go because he immediately pulled away from her and lowered his head apologetically.
"S-sorry," he said. "I just... I just wanted to...!"
He trailed off, as if he himself didn’t know what he wanted from her.
Eternity smiled gently, although her hand was rubbing the thin flesh of her wrist.
"It’s fine," she assured him. "No worries, J."
He looked up at her, his chocolate brown eyes widening upon hearing her understanding words. As if against his will, he blurted out.
"—You’re just so beautiful that I couldn’t help it."
Upon realizing what he had just said, J slapped his hand on his mouth, as if he couldn’t believe he just said that.
Eternity gave him a quizzical look, tilting her head to the side and raising an eyebrow at him.
"I had the impression you weren’t..." She paused, thinking of her words carefully so it wouldn’t come off as judgmental. "... interested in women."
But it still did.
"Oh, I’m not!" J confirmed, removing his hand from covering his mouth. "But I can see and admire beauty regardless of my sexuality. Wait, how’d you know that—Did I come off as obvious?"
Eternity defensively shook her head, silently grateful that he didn’t take her words negatively.
"I’m good at detecting things like that." Eternity reasoned nervously.
"Like a gay-dar?" He suggested.
Eternity could merely force a laugh, having no idea what a ga-dar was.
She was lying, though.
J was, in fact, completely obvious. But she didn’t want to blatantly assume his sexual orientation (which she did) and come off as offensive.
"Anyway," J said, returning to the topic. Now that the cat was out of the bag, he seemed more relaxed. "The moment I saw you talking to Sir Holz, I was completely... I don’t know. Mesmerized? And that’s saying a lot as a gay man. Sir Holz’s face card is hard to ignore, but you’re the first one I’ve noticed."
"Uhhhh... Thank you?" She replied in a grateful but unsure tone. "Sorry, I’m not quite used to receiving compliments."
"Really?!" He gasped, a bit too dramatically. "Your face card doesn’t decline. I’m sure you receive compliments left and right for every day of your life!"
"I’m sorry, but what is a ’face card?’" Eternity asked abruptly, unintentionally ignoring J’s compliments.
J gave her a long look, as if he were contemplating if she lived in a rock or not. "For a person with a strong gay-dar, you’re not quite up to date with queer slang."
"I have no idea what queer slangs are." Eternity admitted.
"I’m gagging!" He exclaimed excitedly.
Eternity gave him a look of concern. "Are you okay? Do you need water?"
"What? No—" J shook his head before he started laughing. "Oh, honey, I’ll be teaching you everything you need to know about gayspeak."
"Are you two planning to leave soon?" An old lady who worked as a utility worker asked impatiently.
"Oh, yes, we are!" J said this before grabbing Eternity’s wrist. "Let’s go, D."
’D must be short for ’Doll,’’ Eternity thought as J dragged her out of the room.
This time, his hold on her wasn’t painful.
Instead, it felt comforting.
It felt like the touch of a new friendship.
