Chapter 126: The Doll’s Lack of Social Cues

Eternity let out a sigh of relief.

For a moment, she was worried that explicit videos of Evan were out on the internet.

Eternity remembered this memory clearly. During her first experience going outdoors, Evan brought her to the mall to buy her things, and she ran out of energy after they finished shopping. All those ’viral videos’ of him were just Evan ’refueling’ her.

It was nothing sort of scandalous.

"Bystanders thought they were actors in the middle of filming a movie or something, so it was their immediate reaction to take a video of them." Jakob continued. "Speaking of, even though there were various angles of the video, no one could make sense of the woman’s identity. The only thing that could serve as a clue to her identity was her long, red hair..."

He paused as he looked at Eternity. His eyes widened as if something had just occurred to him just now.

"Wait, red hair..." he repeated. "The identity of that woman... could it be...?"

Eternity swallowed the imaginary lump in her throat, worried for her and Evan’s sake. It would be a huge issue if they found out about their relationship on her first day at work!

"Could it be her?" Jakob gasped.

’Her?’ She repeated inside her mind.

"Who?" Eternity asked curiously, realizing that he did not give her the slightest amount of suspicion.

"About 2 months ago, I think," he explained tentatively. "Sir Holz accidentally got featured in some slightly known travel influencer’s video."

Eternity kept quiet. She already knew where this was going.

"This influencer was known to interview beautiful women around the world, and on that specific video, they got ahold of this woman who was waiting at the entrance of the company’s building.

"She was telling them to leave her alone, warning them that she’d call Sir Holz if they continued to harass her. Of course, everyone thought she was bluffing, but Sir Holz actually arrived at the scene!"

"She even gave her a hug the moment she saw her," Eternity said dryly, continuing the story for him.

Jakob’s eyes widened. "Oh, you already knew about this?"

Eternity didn’t want to say anything, but she knew it would raise suspicion if she bitterly kept quiet about it.

"Wasn’t it all over the internet?" She said, playing along. "Something about John, or whatever his name was, finally getting the repercussion he deserved after making years worth of content at the expense of women’s comfort?"

John nodded, finally calming down upon hearing her believable reasoning. "It caused quite a stir within the office, you know."

"I could imagine." Eternity chuckled, although the memory of watching the video caused a slight ache in her chest.

Don’t get her wrong, though. She didn’t have any ill feelings towards Edelweiss Roth. In fact, she was actually quite fond of her. But it was still a hard pill to swallow that Freiheit chose her out of all the Eternity Women in the shop just because she looked similar to Edelweiss.

If she had looked different, she wouldn’t have met Evan.

She wouldn’t be living the life that she has now.

"It’s weird that months have already passed since the first and second videos, yet I only managed to connect the dots just now..." Jakob rubbed his chin, humming deeply.

"I’m more surprised that other people didn’t make the same guess as you did much earlier." Eternity said, agreeing with Jakob’s speculation just so she could cover her tracks and this conversation wouldn’t lead to her.

He shrugged. "I guess no one gave it much thought since things immediately settled down a few days after the videos went viral. People quickly lose their interest, you know."

She nodded in understanding. "They immediately switched their attention over to the next gossip they could grab their claws on."

"That’s right, Miss Doll." Jakob agreed, chuckling. "That’s right."

"Don’t tell me," Evan said, looking at Eternity in amusement as she carried a pile of sorted documents to his table. "You didn’t think you’d actually work when I brought you here?"

"I didn’t," Eternity admitted, pouting her lips and crossing her arms. "I thought we’d only be having office sex everyday..."

He chuckled, shifting his attention to the papers on his desk. He took a piece of the files and began scanning its content. Once he was done, he returned it back to its stack.

"I’m surprised you actually got my orders right at the first try."

Eternity raised her eyebrows, wrinkling her forehead in the process.

"It’s a rather easy task, Evan--Oh, can I call you that when we’re alone?" She asked, just to be sure.

"Of course, Eternity. But only when we’re alone together. Anyway," He said as he returned to their original topic. "Most of my secretaries fucked their tasks up so I always end up firing them on their first day."

"Or so I’ve heard," Eternity said, though her tone didn’t sound amused. "That’s why Mr. Schmidt has been serving as your proxy-secretary while the position was vacant."

She took note of using Jakob’s last name to prevent Evan from getting any negative ideas.

"Oh?" Evan exclaimed, looking at her in disbelief. "You’ve already heard that information on your first day here?"

"I learned so much information about you on my first day here," Eternity said, giggling.

"Oh?" He repeated curiously. "Do pray tell."

"At this point," Evan sighed, resting his back on his office chair’s backrest. "I’m not surprised if you probably heard every story about me as a boss."

"There’s still a tomorrow," Eternity teased. "More gossip will definitely come."

"Ha ha ha," he retorted sarcastically. "My employees do nothing but gossip. Maybe I should fire them?"

"Please don’t."

Evan chuckled. "I’m just kidding."

’That isn’t a funny joke.’ Eternity wanted to say but kept mum about it. Instead, she decided to continue the ’playful’ tone (in Evan’s morbid way) of their conversation.

"So I heard you started treating your employees differently about 4 months ago."

"4 months ago...?" Evan repeated cluelessly. "What happened 4 months ago--Oh."

Evan deadpanned as he realized where this was going.

"Are you planning to gloat that you brought ’the best in me?’" he asked, emphasizing his words sarcastically.

But Eternity didn’t seem to catch the hint. Or perhaps she intentionally ignored his tone. Instead, she puffed her chest out like a proud pigeon and grinned brightly.

"I sure am!’
