Chapter 35: Treating the Doll with the Bare Minimum

It was pretty late when they finished eating.

Or rather, when Evan finished eating. Once he finished his meal, he washed his plate, even when Eternity told him she’d do it for him.

"You already cooked, Eternity," Evan said, shaking his head as he rubbed the sponge on the plate in a circular motion. It reminded him of an action that required him to make a similar motion, but he immediately dismissed the thought. "The least I can do is wash my plate."

"For a self-proclaimed misogynist," Eternity said, looking quite impressed. "You’re not acting the part."

He shrugged.

"Don’t get me wrong," he said, turning off the faucet after rinsing his plate and eating utensils. "I believe women should know how to cook like it’s supposed to be an innate skill. But so do men."

Eternity gestured for him to continue, looking quite impressed with his words.

"I think cooking shouldn’t be a gender-based house chore but a basic life skill." He paused, contemplating something. "Although I believe that women should be better at it,"

"Why so?"

"Because they’re built for the kitchen!" He answered like it was supposed to be obvious. "There’s a big difference between needing to know it because you need to and being expected to know it because that’s your assigned role."

"You’re losing me." Eternity wrinkled her nose. "But ironically, I finally found your misogynistic streak."

"It was never missing in the first place," Evan laughed, drying his hand on the towel.

When Evan was done placing his plate on the drying rack, he turned around to face her.

He saw the most heartbreaking sight in his life: Eternity looked like she was lost and confused, unlike when she tilted her head to the side. It was different.

"I thought..." Eternity trailed.

It was different.

It angered him.

"I changed because I met you?" Evan finished for her, scoffing. "Like, you’re supposed to fix me? Eternity," he said, grabbing her by the shoulders. "What is there to fix if I’m not broken?"

Eternity opened her mouth but closed it immediately.

"What?" Evan demanded, using a tone he usually did not use when he talked to her. But a tone he usually uses with other people.

Especially women.

Eternity shook her head, smiling brightly to replace the look of distaste she had earlier.

"Humans are not perfect. I did not consider it that neither are you." The smile on her face melted like she was done trying to convince herself. "I guess just because you’re not treating me like the sex doll that I am doesn’t mean you’re any better than the rest of the men who bought us Eternity Women for that purpose."

"But I am better than them," Evan said. "I’m treating you like a real woman! Isn’t that enough for you?"

"Isn’t that the bare minimum, Evan?" Eternity pointed out

He froze.

The way her voice and words seemed disappointed in him struck him like lightning. He felt anger boiling inside of him, for she was a woman—well, not even a real one—and Eternity was speaking to him in such a disrespectful tone.

"I’m... sorry." He apologized, just to end the impending fight between them.

He thought that he was acting rather out of character.

But, to be honest, this was the real him!

He was out of character for being all sweet and mushy around Eternity since he met her. But this is how he really was. Heck, he should be thanking him for even saying he was sorry!

"Aren’t you just saying that because I got disappointed, but you didn’t really mean it?" Eternity frowned.

"What, no!" He scoffed. "I meant it!"

"If you meant it, Evan," There was no hint of venom in her voice, but for some reason, it stung. And she hadn’t even uttered the hurtful part. "You would change your opinion about women."

If there was one thing that an alpha male like him hated the most, it was being told off by a woman.

"Why would I change my opinion for the whole female populace if all I ever care about is you?" He furrowed his eyebrows. "Heavens, women are so demanding. I even apologized, but that still isn’t enough! What do you want next, a designer bag?

Eternity looked surprised at Evan’s sudden outburst. Finally, she gathered her bearings and sighed exasperatedly.

"That’s exactly my point."

"Don’t do that," Evan warned.

"Do what?" He wasn’t sure if she was feigning it, but Evan was increasingly getting annoyed with her standoffish tone.

"Sound so irritated with me." He continued.

"But I am," Eternity said again, a sigh of annoyance.

Evan felt a nerve popping in his temple.

"You have no right, Eternity." Those words escaped his lips before he could even think properly. "You have no fucking right!"

"You’re just a sex doll! You’re not even a real woman! So what the fuck are you yapping about?" He continued menacingly, making sure that each word hurt her the same way she did to him. "Yes, I was right that I was foolish! I was nice enough to treat you respectfully, but this is what you do in return! I should have fucked you the first moment I could."

He continued shouting. His hands were balled into a fist, and his whole face was flustered in anger.

"You would’ve wanted that, would you?" Evan smirked. "Because that’s your purpose, your only worth in the world. Someone who was specifically created just to get fucked shouldn’t be allowed to state their opinion."

He jabbed a finger at her chest, and his breathing was labored after all that shouting. His next set of words were spoken in a calm voice, but Evan knew that it would hurt her the most.

"I own you, Eternity!" He practically spat at her. "Know your place. Don’t you fucking dare forget that!"

Eternity’s expression didn’t change. Instead, she looked at him straight on. He wasn’t sure if it was defiance in her eyes or if he was just not used to a woman not cowering in fear when he raised his voice.
