The CEO's Seductive Doll-Chapter 60: Present: Doll
"Tonight?" Evan practically gasped, not expecting the turn of events.
"Yes." Edelweiss nodded in confirmation, and a small smile, almost seductively, crept on her lips. "Keep a newly divorced lady company, just for tonight."
Judging by her choice of words and mannerisms, it wasn’t the friendly, harmless ’company’ Edelweiss was looking for. She was looking for something else, probably with sex in it.
If Evan were any younger, he would’ve answered "yes" in a heartbeat. After all, this was Edelweiss Roth. She was his walking teenage wet dream.
But things were different now.
He had Eternity.
He would never cheat on her, even if she was technically just a sex doll and not even a real woman.
Evan might’ve been an asshole and a general scum on Earth, but he was no cheater.
"I’m sorry, Edelweiss," Evan said, taking a deep breath as if this pained him to say this (where, in fact, it did). "But I don’t think my girlfriend would like it if I spent my evening with another woman."
Edelweiss blinked repeatedly before she let out what seemed like a huff of surprise.
"You have a girlfriend now, Evan?" She asked in disbelief. "You, Evan Holz, have a girlfriend?"
Evan scowled, not liking her tone and choice of words. Though he had to admit it, he appreciated that she didn’t use his real name throughout their conversation.
"And what of it?" He raised an eyebrow, making sure that his irritation could be heard.
"O-oh, no," Edelweiss stammered as a trail of sweat trickled down her face, probably taken off guard by his sudden change of demeanor. "I was genuinely surprised, that’s all."
He glared at her, not knowing how to react to her words without sounding offended. So instead, he changed the topic to what had been bugging him since the moment he laid his eyes on her.
"So?" Evan asked impatiently. "What exactly is your purpose for coming here?"
Her chocolate brown eyes widened, and she opened her plump red lips to say something, but no words came out.
"Obviously, you have a motive, Miss Roth." Evan said it accusingly. "You couldn’t possibly have waited for me to get out of my office just to exchange greetings, could you?"
Edelweiss looked away from his judgmental gaze.
"It’s not like that..." She spoke in a small voice, which implied that it was, in fact, like that.
"Well, if it isn’t, I’ll be taking my leave." Evan turned his back on her, preparing to do what he had just announced. "She’s waiting for me at home, so please—"
"Wait!" Edelweiss interrupted with a desperate voice. "Okay, fine. I’ll be shameless and will stop beating around the bush!"
Evan faced her, narrowing his eyes.
"Ah," he exclaimed dryly. "So you do have a motive."
"Of course, I do!" She admitted it shamelessly, like she said she would.
Evan was wrong.
She did change.
In fact, she was like every woman who tried to sleep with him just to get on his good side, just so they could ask him for some favors.
Usually, this didn’t work because Evan was a distrustful person from the get-go, and he was a misogynist who thought women were naturally manipulative in nature. But this time, it almost did because the person trying to gain his favor was none other than Edelweiss.
Thank goodness Evan had Eternity and his fidelity to her in his mind, or else he would fall prey to her mind games.
It made his heart ache a little to see the person whom Evan considered ’the one that got away’ acting like a common manipulative, social climbing whore.
"Well?" He probed impatiently. "What do you need from me?" 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
Sheepishly, her brown eyes finally met his.
"Can I stay at your place tonight?"
Evan scoffed.
"What?"
"I know how pathetic I sound!" Edelweiss’s voice quivered. "You know I’m not the type to crash into someone else’s house."
"I don’t." Evan deadpanned.
How was he to know this if the last time they talked was 12 years ago?
"You know what I mean!" She sounded like she was about to breakdown any second now. "Anyway, I got mugged a few hours ago."
Evan’s eyes widened, finally taking her seriously. "What did they manage to take from you?"
"All of my things—phone, wallet, passport, credit cards—everything!"
"Did you go to the police, at least?" He asked.
Edelweiss nodded, crossing her arms to her chest.
"After the incident, I went to the bank to get my credit card blocked." She continued. "But because of that, I couldn’t pay for my hotel or even my taxi!"
"I... I see." Evan said, not knowing how to react to her predicament.
"Thankfully," she let out a sigh of relief. "The bank I went to was close to Royal Blue’s headquarters, and I immediately thought of you. So—"
"Now you’re here, begging for a place to stay for the night." Evan finished for her.
Hesitantly, Edelweiss nodded.
"I know how pathetic I am," she repeated, her lips quivering. "But I need your help, Evan. Please."
Evan blinked slowly, trying to process her words.
"I can’t let you stay at my place." Evan immediately told her. "My girlfriend wouldn’t want that."
The moment his words escaped from his lips, Edelweiss’s shoulders slumped down in dejection.
"But," he added with emphasis. "I could lend you some money if you’d like."
Almost immediately, the light returned to Edelweiss’s chocolate-colored eyes.
"Oh, thank you, Evan!" She suddenly jumped at him, wrapping her arms around his neck once more. "I knew I could count on my self-assigned little brother!"
Edelweiss was in the same grade level and age as Freiheit, meaning she was two years older than Evan. It wasn’t such a surprise that Edelweiss only saw her as a younger brother, so Evan never really had a chance with her.
But it was in the past now, Edelweiss was merely someone he looked up to as a kid.
He had the present with him, and that present was with Eternity.
