The CEO's Seductive Doll-Chapter 72: The Doll’s Book
"I’ll go wash the dishes," Evan said as he finished his plate, and before Eternity could insist that she’d do it herself, he took his plate and eating utensils from the table and headed toward the sink. "Go on."
Eternity furrowed her eyebrows, but she didn’t say anything more. Instead, she went to the living room and did what she always did whenever she was left to her own devices: study the outside world.
It had been a few weeks since they went out with Edelweiss in the amusement park.
Needless to say, it left a great mark on Eternity, and she has been more excited to learn about the outside world ever since.
Due to Evan’s busy schedule, they haven’t had another outdoor excursion again, so Eternity had to make do with what Evan could provide: books and media streaming platforms. It seemed like they went a step backward instead of forward toward their goal of enlightening her, but sadly, they had no choice.
He had been informed by Eternity that although books, music, shows, and other pop culture media gave her a background on the outside world, she couldn’t automatically gain every piece of information about the subject but only what that specific item could provide.
For example, if Eternity touched a random dog, she would be able to analyze every fact about canines, such as dog breeds, sizes, temperaments of each breed, and the like.
However, if you gave her a book about Siberian huskies, her knowledge would only revolve around the information on huskies that was written in the book. If that book, although specializing in Huskies, lacked certain information about the breed, then she wouldn’t know that fact either.
Hence, it was better for her to get acquainted with the outside world directly.
Going back to the topic at hand, Evan felt happy that Eternity eagerly wanted to learn about the real world. She was like a child who was gobbling in every piece of information given to her, but of course, it didn’t go without repercussions.
For example, Eternity regularly watched trending videos on MeTube since it was the easiest way to get the latest updates about the world. This was how she found out about JohntheVlogger’s video featuring Edelweiss and, consequently, misunderstood her relationship with Evan.
Evan sighed as he placed the plate on the rack to dry. He dried his hand on a paper towel before throwing it in a trash bin.
"Eternity?" Evan called out as he headed to the living room, only to see Eternity reading a book on the sofa.
"Hi, Evan." Eternity greeted him.
It seemed like she was too engrossed in reading her book because she didn’t even bother to look up at him.
Evan felt slightly disrespected but didn’t say anything about it and merely sat beside her. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
"What are you reading?" He asked, peering over her shoulder to get a glimpse of the text.
"Oh, this?" She finally looked up, closing the book. "It’s an interesting book. It’s about feminism and—"
Upon hearing the word ’feminism,’ Evan automatically rolled his eyes and snatched the book from Eternity’s hand.
"Hey!" Eternity whined. "What’s that for--"
"Where’d you even get this?" He demanded, inspecting the book as if he were a police officer looking at a murder weapon.
"It was a freebie from the book haul you bought." Eternity said. "The bookshop was kind enough to give extra books, so..."
She couldn’t even finish her sentence as Evan finally slammed the book down on the coffee table, his features hardening even more.
"You know," he said, causing Eternity to look at him worriedly. "If you keep reading books like this without even informing me, at this rate, I might ban you from reading books altogether."
"What?!" Eternity gasped. "But why?!"
"You know I make sure to filter out books that you read, Eternity." Evan reminded. "I specifically make sure not to give you political and pretentious self-help books. That’s why I’m genuinely surprised to see you reading such a book—a book about feminism—to make it worse!"
"What’s wrong with that?" she asked, genuinely clueless.
Evan huffed, crossing his arms.
"I don’t want you to get any weird ideas."
For a moment, Eternity stared at him as if waiting for him to say something else. When he didn’t, she cocked an eyebrow at him.
"Are you trying to make a Beauty and the Beast reference?" She scoffed. "Because if you are, it’s not cute."
Evan wrinkled his forehead in confusion. "What do you mean?"
"Gaston said something similar in the movie..." Eternity tried to explain, but the realization hit her that he, in fact, was serious and not making a pop culture reference.
Eternity fell silent, as if she were gathering her thoughts. After a while, she opened her mouth and began.
"You know, Evan, you’re making me doubt the sincerity of your words last time." She said, her tone was evidently hurt. "You said you’d change for me, yet here you are again with your misogynistic tendencies--"
Just in time, the doorbell started ringing.
"I’ll answer it." Evan stood up from the sofa and headed to the door.
He didn’t necessarily want to get it, if he were, to be honest.
In fact, he already found a comfortable position on the sofa, so the urge to stand up was borderline tedious. However, Evan did not want to hear Eternity’s complaint about his prejudice yet again, so he decided this was the best opportunity to shrug her off without sounding or looking rude.
Eternity knew what he was doing, but she didn’t say anything and merely rolled her eyes.
Once Evan was completely gone from view as he disappeared into the hallway, she took the book again from the table and continued reading.
"Coming," Evan said loudly, hoping for his voice to be heard outside.
But it seemed like it didn’t reach their visitor because they continued ringing the doorbell incessantly. Evan had the inkling that, whoever their visitor was, they literally had zero patience in their system.
He didn’t bother checking the door’s peephole and opened the door without a second thought.
Only to regret it almost instantly.
"Hey," Freiheit greeted.
