Chapter 82: Doll’s First Day of Homeschool

"Eternity," a voice called out, followed by a gentle shaking of her shoulders. "Wake up."

Eternity’s long lashes fluttered open, and the first thing she saw was Evan, who was all suited up and whose hair was parted on the side.

"Evan?" she called out, feeling slightly disoriented for being woken up from her ’resting’ mode.

She looked around and realized that she was in her room. Her room was tidy and looked as if it were rarely used, which was true in a sense since she only went here whenever she was ’sleeping.’ 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

Though last night, she was quite sure that she fell asleep in Evan’s room after their lovemaking, so she wasn’t sure how she got here.

’Evan probably brought me here,’ Eternity thought of the obvious answer.

"Get up, Eternity," Evan said, motioning for her to get up.

Lazily, Eternity began rubbing her eyes with the back of her hands, still refusing to get up.

"Why?" she inquired with a yawn.

"Your tutors will arrive," he replied in a matter-of-fact tone before yawning as well.

Eternity bolted upright from bed, the sleepiness in her system jumping out of the window almost immediately.

"Really?!" Eternity exclaimed, her eyes widening in delight.

"Yes," Evan nodded in confirmation. "I thought the sooner you start your studies, the sooner you’re allowed to get out in the real world."

To say that Eternity was excited was an understatement. She started bouncing on the bed just like a little child would. Evan couldn’t help but smile as he watched her squeal in delight.

"Oh, before I forget," Evan fished out a piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to her. "This is your tutoring schedule."

Eternity enthusiastically accepted the paper and began reading it.

"Since today is a Friday, my today’s schedule consists of life skills, ethics, literature, and..." Eternity gasped. "Field trip day?!"

Evan nodded, already foreseeing that this would probably be Eternity’s favorite subject.

"I took Freiheit’s opinion into consideration," Evan said. "I’m wasting your potential by locking you here, and you tend to learn more through direct contact, so we might as well maximize your abilities instead of merely being book smart.

"Oh, thank you, Evan!" Eternity said, lunging towards him just to wrap her arms around Evan’s neck.

"I only want the best for you," Evan smiled, though not like she could see it, with her face buried on the crook of his neck and all. "Anyway, I’ll be heading to work now."

Eternity pulled away from Evan, a deep frown forming on her face.

"You haven’t eaten breakfast yet," Eternity pointed out before pausing to correct herself. "I haven’t made breakfast yet!"

Evan chuckled, ruffling Eternity’s hair. She blew a stray lock of hair that went in front of her face, pouting.

"It’s fine," he assured. "I can just order some food during lunchtime."

Eternity seemed unconvinced, and she glanced at the wall clock to prove a point.

"Don’t you think it’s too early to go to work?"

"I have an important meeting today," Evan explained. "Apparently, there’s a breakout of contamination all over the breweries around the country."

"So Edelweiss’s problem wasn’t an isolated case?" Eternity asked.

Evan blinked blankly, then his expression changed to one of admiration.

"I’m surprised that you remember."

Eternity shrugged. "I have a good memory."

"But seriously," Evan said, scratching the side of his face wearily. "I need to go now. I don’t want to be late for work."

Before Eternity could remind him to give her a mandatory kiss, Evan pulled her close and kissed her on the forehead.

With a "See you later, Eternity," Evan rose from bed, causing the mattress to creak under his weight.

Eternity smiled, though there was a hint of sadness in her eyes.

"See you later, Evan."

***

Eternity, who loved learning and always thirsted for knowledge, found homeschooling boring.

Or at least, her morning session was. It was too early to give a concrete opinion about it since this was her first 3 hours of home school.

Eternity expected to learn more than what was written on the books, which she already absorbed the contents of the moment she touched them.

Her first teacher of that day was Miss Pracks who taught the subject ’practical life skills’. She was an absolutely by-the-book teacher who rarely deviated her lessons from the materials provided by Evan.

Life skills, according to Miss Pracks, were a subject rarely taught in regular school, so Eternity was very fortunate to learn her lessons. The subject’s topics consist of budgeting, cooking, time management, and household chores.

Sadly, these are knowledges that Eternity already learned about beforehand through her analysis of surroundings and objects. Still, she tried her best to pay attention to her tutor, even if Miss Pracks was basically repeating what she already knew.

"Believe me, Miss Doll," Miss Pracks said as their class was about to finish. Thank the heavens. "These topics are absolutely essential in the real world."

Eternity nodded in feigned agreement, jutting down on her notepad just to please the tutor.

Her second subject was ethics.

This was comparably more interesting than the previous one. Her tutor’s name was Mrs. Morales, a woman who had tanned skin and an amazing figure. She proudly proclaimed that she was of Hispanic descent and was quite patriotic for someone who left their homeland.

Though the same thing could be said about Eternity, who was she to judge?

"As much as I would love to talk about my roots, Mister Holz didn’t pay me to do that." Mrs. Morales laughed at her own joke. If it was one in the first place, "Now, let’s talk about the ’Allegory of the Cave.’"

Eternity let out a sigh of relief as soon as Mrs. Morales left the apartment. Even though the concept of studying ethics seemed quite interesting, the process of actually studying it was difficult.

Even for someone like her!

Perhaps the unnecessary complexity sprang from the fact that she was, after all, a doll.

’Humans are hard to understand after all,’ Eternity thought to herself. ’Even Evan struggled to make sense of his own emotions...Though I think emotions are a far cry from ethics, it’s not really right to compare them...’

Just as she was about to head to the living room, someone buzzed at the doorbell.

"Did Mrs. Morales accidentally leave something...?" Eternity muttered aloud as she turned her heels, opening the door.

"Sorry, I’m late!" A woman who was either baby-faced or was literally a teenager shrieked the moment she saw Eternity. "My alarm didn’t ring, and I thought it was just twelve noon!"

"It 𝘪𝘴 twelve noon," Eternity clarified. "Are you my next tutor?"

A look of confusion sprawled across her face, and she glanced at her watch, only for blood to drain from her face.

"Eeeep!" She shrieked once again. "My watch is broken!"

Eternity laughed wearily, equally confused as the girl in front of her about what was happening.

"I think you 𝘢𝘳𝘦 my next tutor," Eternity said, smiling genuinely at the girl. "I’m Eternity Doll. I assume you’re my tutor in literature, am I right?"

Once the girl realized the extent of how much she had messed up, she looked at Eternity and was about to say something, but she merely opened her mouth, and no words came out.

Instead, her whole face turned bright red—so red it even reached her ears.

Eternity cupped the girl’s chin and gently helped to close her mouth.

"What’s your name?" Eternity asked as her hand fell to her side.

"I-I’m..." The girl took a hefty gulp of saliva, her throat noticeably bobbing. "I’m O-O-Olivia Wilde! N-n-nice to meet you, Miss Doll!"
