Chapter 83: The Doll’s Literature Tutor

"Well, since you’re already here," Eternity opened the door wider. "You can come inside even though our class starts at 13:00!"

Olivia hesitantly nodded, removed her shoes, and went inside the apartment.

"Have you eaten yet?" Eternity asked as she led the tutor to the kitchen-dining room. "Because if you haven’t, I could make you some lunch if you want."

Surprisingly, the tutor’s complexion turned much redder than it had previously been.

"I can’t possibly ask of you to—" The loud, vulgar grumbling of her stomach stopped her in mid-sentence.

With a smile, Eternity said, "I thought so, too. I had a feeling you just woke up, and you went here as fast as you could."

"How did you—?!" Olivia gasped and asked. "Are you a mind-reader?!"

"I’m not a mind reader," Eternity chuckled. "Just observant."

Though anyone need not be that observant to notice Olivia’s haggard appearance.

Olivia’s long black hair was still dripping with water droplets, as if she had just gotten out of the shower and hadn’t dried her hair properly. This resulted in some damp patches on her clothes.

Her clothes looked as if they hadn’t been ironed yet. In fact, she strongly smelled of fabric softener, like she had just picked up her clothes fresh from the washing machine.

"Oh," was all Olivia could say, trying her hardest not to seem embarrassed.

But her facial expression and body language were a dead giveaway.

Eternity giggled as she gestured for Olivia to sit on one of the dining chairs. She dutifully obliged.

"So, Miss Wilde..." Eternity drawled.

"P-please just call me ’Olivia!’" She stammered before looking away timidly as she mumbled. "I’m probably younger than you, so it must be weird on your part to call me with such honorifics."

Blankly, Eternity blinked. "How old are you, Olivia?"

"16, Miss Doll," she replied earnestly.

Eternity raised her eyebrows, causing her forehead to wrinkle. "And you’re already working as a tutor?"

"Not working, per se," Olivia clarified. "It would be more appropriate to say that I’m taking my internship."

"That’s amazing!" Eternity pretended to know what an ’internship’ was and merely played along. "You’re already going to places at such a young age!"

A coy smile spread across her face as she prepared to thank Eternity, but once more the sound of her stomach growling cut her speech short.

"I’m sorry," She averted her gaze and looked quite embarrassed.

But Eternity only shook her head and assured her. "No worries! Everyone gets hungry from time to time. Anyway, Olivia, I’ve been meaning to ask: Is there anything in particular that you’d like to eat?"

"Wait, you’re seriously going to make me lunch?!" Olivia exclaimed with widened gray eyes before slapping a hand on her mouth. "I’m sorry, that was rude..." She apologized in a muffled voice.

Eternity laughed heartily. "Yes, I’m seriously planning to make you lunch."

"You don’t need to, Miss Doll..." Olivia frowned.

"Eternity," she corrected.

Olivia looked at her in confusion.

"Well, you allowed me to call you by your first name!" Eternity pointed this out. "Shouldn’t I return the favor, at least?"

"Eternity..." Olivia repeated, saying the name carefully as if it were foreign to her tongue.

"The person who named me had a rather weird naming sense." Eternity scratched the side of her face wearily, referring to Evan.

Olivia shook her head. "I think it’s a very original and beautiful name!"

Eternity beamed at her. "Thank you; that’s very sweet of you. But seriously, what food do you want?"

"I..." Olivia struggled to find her words, not wanting to sound demanding.

"It’s alright," Eternity assured, already having an inkling of what Olivia was worried about. "You can suggest whatever you want!"

Olivia was reluctant for a complete minute, but after a while, she answered.

"Caesar salad... But please don’t include anchovies, parmesan cheese, Worcestershire sauce, and... Oh, and please use vegetarian-friendly croutons." Olivia paused, realizing that even though she was 𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘥 to be demanding, it didn’t necessarily mean she 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 be. "I’m sorry, I’m a vegetarian, so I’m a bit... you know, with my food."

"I don’t mind!" Eternity said as she headed to the kitchen section of the kitchen-dining room and began preparing the ingredients. "I guess you’re trying to minimize the number of deaths you’re responsible for?"

Olivia’s gray eyes widened, and a gasp escaped from her lips.

"You read ’The Fault in Our Stars’ by John Greene?" She practically fangirled.

"Yes!" Eternity replied with a broad smile, washing the vegetables. "I read it just a few days ago."

"To be honest, that’s the reason why 𝘐 became vegetarian!" Olivia raved. "Hazel Grace’s reason for not wanting to be responsible for more deaths of other creatures, given the fact that she had cancer, made so much sense that it moved me!"

"I honestly didn’t expect you to catch on to the reference!" But then a sudden realization struck Eternity. "Then again, you’re a literature tutor. You’ve probably read every single book there is."

"Not 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 book," Olivia chuckled. "Just books worth reading."

"Oh?" Eternity raised an eyebrow as she placed the veggies in a bowl and took another one to mix the dressing. "What books 𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯’𝘵 worth reading?"

Olivia shrugged.

"You know," she mumbled ambiguously, and she ended it at that. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Eternity laughed heartily, whisking the ingredients for the Caesar salad dressing together.

"I honestly 𝘥𝘰 know."

"You do?" Olivia’s eyes literally glittered.

"Yup!" She affirmed as she combined the dressing and vegetables together. "Even though every book has a story to tell, not every single one of them deserves to be heard... as sad as that may sound."

Olivia nodded eagerly. "And just because it’s popular doesn’t mean it’s a good book!"

"Sometimes, it’s popular for the wrong reasons." Eternity added.

"Yes!" Olivia practically shouted in excitement. "Infamy!"

"Yes, infamy." The doll agreed. "And your food is done!"

"Oh!" Olivia exclaimed. "That was fast."

As Eternity retrieved a plate from the dish rack and brought the Caesar salad to the dining area, where she placed both plates on the table, a mischievous grin spread across her face.

"You’re very passionate about literature." Eternity said as she sat on the chair directly in front of Olivia. "I think I’ll enjoy having you as a tutor, Olivia."

Olivia must’ve realized that she had completely let her guard down for a few minutes because she ended up getting flustered again.

"I’ll do my best to meet your expectations, Miss--" She cleared her throat. "Eternity."
