Chapter 97: No amount of Justification to the Doll

Evan didn’t say anything.

It was because he knew, no matter how much he denied it to himself, he knew that Eternity was right. Seeing that he had no negative reactions, at least not stated aloud, Eternity continued and explained.

"Judging by the fact that she got pregnant at the age of 13, she was definitely taken advantage of by an older man." Eternity said it in a grim tone, knowing the gravity of the implications of her words. "I easily made this assumption based on the fact that she only dates men who are older than her. Her situation can’t be blamed on the fact that she was ’young, dumb, and in love,’ but on the fact that she was groomed."

Evan’s blue eyes widened in surprise, as if he had never taken this thought into consideration before, and this was a revelation even to himself.

"Remember, Evan, she was only 13." Eternity emphasized her words. "Girls that age would feel mortified if her peers found out who her secret crush was in middle school. Even more so, imagine what a 13-year-old would feel if anyone were to know that she got pregnant at such a young age."

But then Eternity added a disclaimer to her words.

"Of course, I could never know her exact reasoning for choosing to pretend to be your sister. But I got the feeling it was because she was just trying to protect you. After all, imagine the bullying you would’ve experienced if people found out a girl who just turned into a teenager was your mother."

Evan scoffed, crossing his arms like a petulant child.

"Or she didn’t want to accept the fact that she gave birth at such a young age." He grumbled. "Because she wanted to experience the same things girls her age did without worrying that she had extra baggage to carry around her shoulders."

"That could also be it." Eternity admitted the possibility. "But we can never know what her true reason was; we could only speculate on whatever was going on inside her mind."

There was a moment of silence between them, like Evan was trying to process her words carefully. That, or he was still drunk, unlike what Eternity thought, and was having a hard time keeping up with the conversation. However, the latter proved to be false, as Evan finally spoke again after quite some time.

"Now do you understand the reason why I became like this?"

Eternity gave him a long look, as if taking in his intoxicated and disheveled features and wondering if this was worth the fight.

But Evan was always worth the fight.

So she spoke again.

"It’s not my place to tell you to forgive her." Eternity began, her voice gentle yet firm. "After all, you’ve been harboring this hatred toward her for two decades already. But I, at least, want you to consider the points I’ve raised objectively."

Evan nodded, making Eternity give a sigh of relief that he was attentively listening to her.

"Also," she added with much pressure in the single word. "I’m going to repeat what I told you when we first met: just because Dolores wronged you doesn’t mean every single woman would do the same."

"I know," Evan rolled his eyes, scoffing. "I already know this. How many times does everyone need to tell me this before you all realize that I do know--"

But Eternity interjected, effectively stopping him from yapping.

"I know you have your trauma, and I understand how deeply it affected you, but it doesn’t justify your deep hatred for the whole female populace."

Evan looked away, biting his lips until he tasted the distinct taste of metal in his mouth. His hands, which were still balled into fists, trembled. He wanted to say something, but his mind was hazy.

It wasn’t because of the alcohol. It was because Eternity’s words were making sense to him, and he didn’t want to admit it.

Eternity reached out for Evan’s hands; her hand lay on top of his. He recoiled against her touch, but she grabbed his hands just in time before Evan could completely pull away from her. Evan clicked his tongue, and his eyes darted from his hand to Eternity’s face, where he saw her moss-green eyes watching his face tenderly.

For a moment, they just stared at each other, the moonlight serving as a faint light source that cast a soft shadow on both of their features.

After a while, Eternity spoke in a gentle voice.

"But I’m glad that you’re slowly growing out of it."

Evan blinked blankly, confused at the sudden change in her tone.

"I said a while ago that you’re slowly turning more human, right?" She reminded him with a faint smile on her lips. "I know it must be difficult for you since your trauma runs deep, but I’m truly thankful that you’re trying."

"You do know that I only treat 𝘺𝘰𝘶 differently," Evan pointed out. "You’ve never actually seen me interact with another woman before."

"I’ve seen you interact with Cynthia and Edelweiss." Eternity reminded him before humming, rubbing her chin as if in contemplation. "Although I’ve seen you interact with Cynthia prior to your character development, I’ve seen you improve with how you treat Edelweiss, although you still spat out some misogynistic statements towards her.

"But as I’ve said, progress is progress."

Evan hesitantly nodded.

"Progress is progress." He echoed.

"I guess you could use me as a stopping stone to slowly shrug off your hatred towards women," Eternity suggested. "After all, even if I’m a sex doll, I still take the form of a woman."

This made Evan furrow his eyebrows.

"You know that you’re an exemption from my prejudice from the start, right?" Evan reminded her. "I thought we made this clear from the get-go."

"I think you should also start interacting with other women so we can check if you truly changed, not just in front of me, but for the better," Eternity said, nodding to herself as if she made a good point. "How about I introduce you to one of my tutors? I have a specific one in mind that I think you’ll get along with."

He looked at her uneasily.

"And who is this person specifically?"

Eternity gave him a warm smile.

"Olivia, of course."
