The Countess Lives Twice in the Apocalypse-Chapter 100: Ninety-nine
It took approximately three days before Jannah could recover mentally a little from the shock she had experienced from using the active skills of [Mind’s Eye] and the passive skill of [Devil’s Gaze].
Although she might have locked herself inside her bedroom, the construction of an expansion for the training area has been reported to her for the past three days.
She also could see the movements of people inside the town because of the map provided by the system and could communicate with those who are building the walls at the back gates.
Jeriel had told her numerous times yesterday that she could stay in bed for today if she still can’t move without thinking about what happened in the basement of the mail house, but Jannah was a former captain of the knights and a Countess— both roles taking a toll on her.
She has gone through the course of her life leading and protecting people, issuing orders, rules, and regulations.
It’s in her blood at this point.
Her people might have thought that she was bedridden and in any case, it was true, but that doesn’t mean that she has stopped working.
In fact, Jeriel, Duke Eulicies, and Princess Huenazia had told her that if she wants to stay locked up in her room, she should stay in bed, eat something when it’s meal time, and go back to bed again to take a rest.
Just like in her first life, she was stubborn.
She refused to eat because she would just feel like throwing up whenever she gets reminded of the chunks of meat inside the cell and would waste the food that was given to her.
So, she chose to skip meals and force it down on either Princess Huenazia’s, Duke Eulicies’s, Kirie’s or her little sister’s throat because she knows that they won’t let such an opportunity pass by.
Did they regret getting spoon fed by Jannah? No. Did they get mad at themselves for letting Jannah play them like a fool? No. Are they mad at Jannah for skipping meals? Yes!
Does Jannah care? No.
She does take a spoonful of soup every night before giving it to one of the four— whoever’s inside the room with her, but other than that, she has not eaten anything properly.
However, she can tell that she’s completely fine and refreshed now! 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
She woke up from her slumber without feeling drained— that’s a good start, right? Whenever she wakes up from her hour nap and short lived slumbers, she would either wake up from nightmares with her heart beating fast in her chest.
She has not felt that way ever since she woke up.
"Meorrawww." A leopard from beside her mewled loudly, catching Jannah’s attention and making her look away from the papers in her hand.
She looked at the leopard who wanted her attention and saw a cub stretching who had just woken up from his sleep.
"Yes, yes, I’ll get out of bed today." Jannah said, humming out as she reached out to caress the cub’s head to his spine down to his tailbone, "Thank you for staying in bed with me, Irbis."
Irbis perks up, his pair of golden greenish eyes widening and his ears flicking when Jannah utters a name.
"Meoraw!" Irbis mewled and placed his medium-sized paws on Jannah’s thighs, leaning up to give her a lick on the cheek, showing his appreciation and gratitude for finally giving him a name.
"That tickles, Irbis." Jannah said, giggling quietly as the leopard cub purrs and licks her cheek.
She had completely forgotten about the paperwork she was previously doing and instead, got tackled down by the leopard cubs, each one of them mewling and purring loudly, sounding like a harmonious melody for her ears.
"Edur, Fannar— stooooop." Jannah said, her voice edging towards a whine as the leopard cubs continued to lick her face.
She was buried too deep on the leopard cubs with the mother leopard pressing her large paw on Jannah’s head to keep her face, that she had failed to hear the knock coming from the door, but the person heard her giggles and invited themselves in.
"Seriously?" Jeriel asked, raising an eyebrow when her eyes landed on the giggling and kicking woman on the bed, gone from the depressed and drained woman from yesterday and now replaced with a seemingly enthusiastic one.
Jeriel closed the door, after letting Princess Huenazia and Kirie walk inside the room, their eyes scanning the messy surroundings before letting out a defeated sigh.
Kirie started picking up the dirty clothes on the floor while Princess Huenazia started picking up the papers on the floor beside the bed— the ones that Jannah was previously working on.
The sound of the Countess’s giggles and the leopards cheerful mewling filled the room, making the three women around the bed smile softly.
It’s better to hear the laughs and sounds from the leopards instead of complete silence.
Jeriel approached the bed and let out a sigh, picking up the leopard cub on Jannah’s face which made the latter blink rapidly when she saw her little sister with an unamused expression on her face.
"Jeriel!" Jannah gasped out and sat up suddenly, making the leopards fall to her thighs, "I didn’t hear you come in— no, I didn’t hear the three of you come in!"
"It’s completely fine, my lady." Kirie said, assuring Jannah as she finished picking up the clothes off the floor and standing up to smile at her, "It was pleasant to see you smiling and hear you laughing again."
"I agree with her." The crowned princess chirped, standing up from the floor with the papers in her hands, "It’s better than being met with silence."
Jannah felt her face heat up slightly which made her clear her throat to cover up the embarrassment and shame she’s currently feeling, "You don’t have to worry, I’m feeling fine now."
Jeriel hummed softly and placed the clothes on her bed, "Would you be able to check the progress today? I’m sure everyone will be happy to see you walking around."
"I can." Jannah nodded her head and threw her legs to the bedside to get off the bed, "I have to check how the training ground is coming along and while I’m at it, I might finish it as well if I can."
"Wouldn’t that put a toll on your body?" Princess Huenazia asked, her eyebrows furrowing in worry.
"It wouldn’t." Jannah responded, starting to take off her linen shirt that she used to bed, "I managed to put a wall around the town before I collapsed, a small area needing a wall wouldn’t overexert me."
Princess Huenazia nodded her head in understanding, "I see.. I see.. You’re really on a different level compared to the rest of us."
"Our skills came from her, that much is obvious, Your Highness." Jeriel interjected sharply, her ocean blue eyes narrowed towards the princess.
"I know, don’t get the wrong idea, Lady Rafel—"
"Jeriel." The youngest Rafelon cuts off the princess and corrected her way of addressing her, "Calling me "Lady Rafelon" everytime makes me uncomfortable. I don’t think our nobility status applies to our situation now."
"Does that mean you’re going to call me by name, too?" Princess Huenazia perks up, her sunset colored eyes sparkling with expectation.
"If.. If you’re comfortable with it then I shall call you by name." Jeriel said, her voice laced with reluctance after seeing how happy the crowned princess looked at her, goosebumps rising in her arms.
"I would be honored to!" Princess Huenazia chirped, her voice loud and booming as she puffed her chest out, "Call me Huenazia or however you see fit! I don’t mind either way!"
"It’s heartwarming to see the two of you getting along." Jannah stated, making the three women turn to look at her.
She had just finished tying her black hair in a ponytail, her clothes fresh with the used ones on top of the bed which allows the leopard cubs to bite the cotton lightly.
"You’re the one who told me that we should drop the use of nobility status in this town so it needs to start with one of us, right?" Jeriel said, recalling the night when Jannah said she wanted to let go of their noble status.
"What?" Kirie and Princess Huenazia simultaneously exclaimed, their eyes wide in shock.
"Oh, yeah.. I did say that." Jannah murmured, tilting her head as the memory flashed before her eyes, "I just think that our status as nobles would be useless now that the world is at its wit’s end."
"That would throw off the balance!" Princess Huenazia said, her voice rising in volume at how odd for the Countess to think something like that.
"It wouldn’t if we would establish it slowly." Jannah stated, smiling softly towards the princess.
"Urk..!" Princess Huenazia’s eyebrow twitched, her face heating up slightly as her eyes catched the sight of the Countess smiling at her.
"If.. If you say.. So.." Princess Huenazia mumbled and looked away from Jannah, her voice barely above whisper.
"Fantastic!" Jannah clapped her hands with enthusiasm, "Now, let’s see that training ground and check the houses that our beloved people had built for the past three days~"
The leopards stretched their bodies and got off the bed, following Jannah towards the door.
Scary.. Jeriel thought.
