The Countess Lives Twice in the Apocalypse-Chapter 76: Seventy-five
The Duke stood in the doorway, watching as the two sisters undressed the knights.
He was surprised by the sight of the two young women carefully removing the bandages that covered the knights’ bodies.
He went to check the state of his knights after his discussion with the crowned princess regarding the ability of the Countess.
He was drowning in worry and urgency, trying to cover up for the woman, but all that worry was thrown out of the window when he saw the same woman undressing his knights.
As the sisters ceased their movements, their hands stopping over the knights’ toned muscles and chest, the Duke’s eyes couldn’t help, but follow their every movement, a hint of jealousy and admiration in his gaze.
He stood there, observing the scene before him, unable to look away.
The feelings of slight irritation and jealousy bubbled up inside him as he tried to make sense of the strange yet seemingly intimate scene in front of him.
"I was checking them after I healed them." Jannah was quick to say the reason why she was caught in the middle of taking off the knight’s shirt, "I just wanted to see it for myself. I didn’t do anything else, you can check Kean and Dante yourself if you want."
She quickly explained to him that she had just finished healing the knights and was checking if there were still any lingering injuries, and the Duke listened intently, understanding the situation as the woman explained the reason for the intimate scene he had witnessed.
Although he still felt a twinge of jealousy at seeing the Countess touching the knight’s body, he couldn’t deny that her explanation made sense.
The Duke’s face softened after hearing her explanation, understanding and shame slowly seeping in.
He knew that he had misinterpreted the scene he had walked in on, but how could he not be jealous of his knight laying on the bed, whom she has her hands on?
For the sake of his sanity, all he could do was look away from Jannah, his hands curled into a tight fist, as he walked towards one of the vacant wooden chairs inside the room.
Heh, someone’s wishing he was Kean right now. Jeriel commented, whistling through their link as she continued to check Dante’s body, her eyes scanning the man’s chest and abdomen where the stab wound was supposed to be.
Cut it out. Jannah said, doing her best to ignore her little sister’s statement, continuing her inspection on Kean’s body.
Her eyes roamed the man’s upper half, checking if there was any scar left by the healing skill, and to her relief, she saw none. Kean’s skin is as clean as a baby’s butt, soft to the touch yet his toned muscles were hard to press.
Why was Jannah pressing down on Kean’s abdomen and chest? Well, to see if the knight will show any reaction.
If there was any internal bleeding, the knight in front of her would surely show any sign of pain or discomfort, but he continues to stay still on the bed, his breathing steady and soft, almost snoring.
"It looks like my skill worked perfectly." Jannah announced, dragging the linen shirt of the knight down to his abdomen, "I was unsure if it would heal everything at first because the person I healed back in Rye only has bruises, but seeing that he didn’t show any reaction to me touching where his stab wounds were, I’m guessing that he’s all healed up."
"Heal?" The Duke asked, eyebrows furrowed in confusion, still not looking at Jannah.
"Yes, I could heal people with a skill." Jannah answered him as she nodded her head, knowing full well that he wouldn’t see the gesture, "It was given to me back when we were still at the previous town. You can the ladies we rescued. I used the same skill as their friend who was beaten up by one of those unredeemable trash."
"I see.." The Duke nodded his head in understanding, his purple eyes flickering to look at her, Jannah caught his gaze, making his eyes momentarily widen and look away, "Si.. Since you said that they’re in a good state now, I take it that Lady Jeriel had filled you in with what happened?"
"She did." Jannah glanced at Jeriel, catching the teasing look her little sister had thrown her way with a suggestive wriggle of her eyebrow.
Jannah rolled her eyes, tired of Jeriel taunting her after telling her that she doesn’t accept Duke Eulicies.
"That’s great." The Duke said, clearing his throat, and coughing behind his clenched hand, "Where are you off to after this? Are you going to talk to Marques Ebonics?"
Jannah eyed him for a moment, not replying immediately, her bloody red eyes roamed the man’s appearance, recalling how handsome he looked in her dream.
It was weird, he looked much better right now compared to her past life— maybe it was because it was just a few days since the outbreak started?
Jannah wasn’t sure, but before she could dwell too much on it, she looked away.
"We’re planning to go to him." Jeriel spoke, dressing the unconscious Dante since she’s done checking his healed wounds, "She already decided what to do with those who harmed these two."
"Speaking of which." Jannah’s gaze shifted back to the Duke as she crossed her arms, "Why would you let your knights handle them?"
Duke Eulicies looked her in the eyes, a serious and sincere look on his purple irises, "Kean felt guilty for being suspicious of you back at Rye so he volunteered to guard them. Dante tagged along. We didn’t know that they’d resort to violence— I don’t even know where they got those knives."
There was a hint of uncertainty and frustration in his voice as he explained his reason, "Kean talked to me the other day before he volunteered. He said that when he saw you making the wall around the town, he knew that you’re going to protect everyone inside with all your might, and asked me for permission to recite the oath of loyalty to you."
Jeriel blinked, glancing at Jannah, the oath of loyalty is something a knight would do to the person they want to serve for the rest of their lives. Each knight is given the freedom of choosing their master, no matter the status or age.
Kean wanting to do the oath of loyalty to Jannah means that he’s willing to do anything she wants, no matter the cost.
Jannah hummed, looking over to the unconscious Kean on the bed, his breathing steady as his chest rose and fell in rhythm, a peaceful look on his face.
"I’ll have to refuse him." She muttered, looking away from the man and walking towards the door, "I don’t want anyone doing the oath of loyalty to me, I don’t want them sacrificing their freedom to do what they want."
Jeriel’s lips twitched, a small smile creeping to her face as she made her way to her sister’s side, Eira also stood up from her spot on the corner and strutted her merry way to Jannah.
"Besides, it’s a new era for all of us. If I’m being honest, I want to remove the noble title in this town, no one is above or below any person, we’re all doing our best to survive. A life is a life, Duke Zacharias." Her red eyes shot him a glance, a sincere and solemn look can be seen.
The Duke stood up from his seat, a frown settling on his face, removing the use of noble status and title? Wouldn’t that put the balance of this town in disarray?
"We’ll discuss this further with the others." Jannah added on to her previous statement, "The princess is also here which is good. We’ll tell her about what we’re going to plan and her initial reaction will let us know if she’s worth staying here or not."
"You’re going to kick the princess out?" The Duke couldn’t contain the surprise in his face and voice, "That’s an act of treason."
"And who will imprison me?" Jannah shot back, raising an eyebrow at him, "If the princess showed any motive of harming the people then she will leave me no choice, but to kick her out."
"Does that mean that you’ll do the same to Prince Hanzo?" Jeriel chimed in, her voice raising a little to get her big sister’s attention.
Oh, right.. Jeriel likes him. Jannah thought to herself, looking at her little sister over her shoulders.
She recalled the status window of Jeriel and remembered that one of the people listed on the "likes" of her little sister was the captain of the knights.
With a mischievous glint in her eyes, Jannah looked away from Jeriel, "If he leaves me no choice then yes, I’ll kick him out with his sister."
"Oh, dear.." Jeriel murmured, her response was almost immediate, a troubled expression emerging in her face.
Jannah held herself back from letting out a snort. She never thought that she would see her little sister’s worry regarding a man’s well being like this. Much less when the said man is the third Prince of the kingdom.
Jannah opened the door, "Now, if you don’t mind, accompany me to our friends. We must discuss this immediately."
Jeriel did not respond verbally, but she nodded her head.
Duke Eulicies walked towards them with his frown nowhere in sight, "Please allow me to attend the meeting."
"You’re always allowed to attend the meeting." Jannah stated, eyebrows furrowed, "Did someone say otherwise?"
