The Countess Lives Twice in the Apocalypse-Chapter 87: Eighty-six
The black haired woman walked slowly down the hall towards the study room, her footsteps echoing faintly on the hardwood floor. The corridor was quiet, save for the sound of her footsteps and the occasional sounds of the people chattering filtering in from outside.
The hall was long, lined with doors on either side, the hall was dimly lit— lit by a soft, golden light that filtered in through the windows that was slightly blocked by the dark blinds, the shadows of leaves swaying in the breeze dancing across the walls.
The further she walked, the more the sound of the outside world faded away, replaced with the faint sounds of the old house settling.
She rounded a corner and started towards the study room, her gait quick and light, her focus on the door at the end of the hall.
Jannah had brought the white haired Count to a spare guest bedroom, she carried him all the way from the town hall to the mansion, casting the skill, concealment, to not let anyone see the vulnerable side of the Count.
She walked through the bustling street of Philipia, the people around her were completely unaware of the Countess and Count walked past them.
However, the moment she walked inside the mansion, Luciente and Kirie had spotted her. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Their precious and admirable master was carrying an unconscious man in her arms, his head leaning against her shoulder who was incredibly handsome despite being unconscious.
The woman was slender, but her arms were strong and capable, her grip on the man was firm, and she carried him with ease.
It was undeniable that the man on Jannah’s arms was handsome— not with his hair tousled about his head, the silvery white strands framing his face.
His body was lean and muscular, clad in fine, but dirty clothing. His face, a mixture of masculine and delicate features, was smooth and almost angelic.
His long lashes dusted the top of his high cheekbones, his smooth skin contrasting with how hard his muscles felt under her touch, his head lolled against her shoulder, a strand of his hair flopping over his brow.
The young women felt envious of the man’s beauty, even if the outbreak had started, he still managed to look as handsome as he probably was before the outbreak.
Jannah had to order Lucienta to tend to Count Nige while she asked Kirie to bring breakfast to the study room, telling her to call for both Marco and Arthur.
After that, she went straight to the study room.
Jannah opened the door, the hinges creaking loudly and unintentionally announcing her arrival.
She was pleased to see the four people she told to stay put still inside the room, albeit looking distraught and anxious, they still stayed put. Her eyes scanned everyone’s physical state for a moment before she fully walked inside.
"Why do you all look like you just witnessed the world end?" Jannah asked, raising her eyebrow at them as she made her way to the wooden desk.
She pulled the chair out and took a seat, sighing deeply through her nose as she felt her body relax a little. The meeting with Count Nige made her tense— if you can call that a meeting anyways.
However, she can’t deny how sympathetic she felt towards the white haired Count, having lost his family on the way to Philipia.
She doesn’t feel responsible for their death, but the feeling that they would have been alive if she went out there and decided to scavenge for supplies loomed over her head like a headache, dull and throbbing.
Count Nige broke down in front of her, the death of his people was too much to bear.
In her previous life, Count Nige was one of the people who built a community. His people were with him and they built their base in the west, in Duke Dhaloan’s dukedom.
Among the nobles who have built a community, Count Nige was one of the leaders who took people in— rumors have spread in the south that he will take those who are in need of protection and in desperate need of treatment.
His community was called one of the safe havens, just next to the Staria community.
Sighing weakly, but deeply, Jannah leaned back on her chair, closing her eyes to help lessen the looming negativity. She was quick to calm down and when she opened her eyes, she found Jeriel standing in front of her.
"Are you okay?" The youngest Rafelon asked, her eyes scanning Jannah’s physical state.
The Countess’s heart raced and her bloody red eyes widened with fright as she opened them and saw her little sister standing in front of her.
She gasped for breath, adrenaline coursing through her veins when the sudden unexpected sight caused her heart to skip a beat. She didn’t expect for Jeriel to be in front of her—
Her body tensed, bracing for an attack or some other danger because of Jeriel’s upset expression before her brain registered the familiar look of relief in Jeriel’s eyes.
When the realization of her little sister merely checking on her dawned on her, Jannah’s initial fright quickly melted into relief, her body slumping with exhaustion as the adrenaline died down.
"I’m good." Jannah answered truthfully, rubbing her temples and calming her beating heart.
Her little sister almost gave her a heart attack! Just what is her problem? Why is she sneaking around when she could have just asked her?
"He didn’t do anything to you?" Jeriel frowned at Jannah, her eyes still glued on her big sister’s body, glancing and looking for something that might be a wound or a bruise.
"Yes? If he did, I would have knocked him out before he could do anything to me." Jannah blinked, her words earning a collective sigh of relief and amazement from the people on the couch.
Hearing this, Jannah tilted her head and looked past Jeriel to narrow her eyes at them.
"What?" She asked with a sharp tone, "Did you guys think that I’ll let anyone harm me? All of your skills came from me and I was a knight before anything else."
Jannah pointed out the obvious because it seems like they have forgotten about it. Especially the part when she served the kingdom and won countless battles in the battlefield— how could the Duke of east and the crowned princess forget that?
Based on their body movements, she could tell that they indeed forgot about her achievements before the outbreak.
"Seriously?" Jannah said, her voice dripping with agitation and frowned at the two nobles with highest ranking, "The two of you should know this more than anything else."
Duke Eulicies and Princess Huenazia could only look down, bowing their heads as they accepted Jannah’s reprimands regarding their previous recklessness— not that Jannah actually knows, but she was quite upset with them.
However, before Jannah could say any words, a heavy weight suddenly plopped down on her lap and snaked their arms around her neck, knocking the air out of her lungs.
Jannah choked slightly, her hands shooting up to loosen Jeriel’s arms around her neck.
When the youngest Rafelon let her big sister loosen her grip on her, Jannah breathed out a sigh of relief and wrapped her own arms around Jeriel’s waist, not pushing her off.
Everyone watched the Rafelon sisters embrace each other, especially Jeriel who looked like she was about to cry so it looks like Jannah was consoling her more than Jeriel which made the sight comical.
"Anyways, can someone explain why you are all gathered here when you’re supposed to do your duty?" Jannah looked away from Jeriel and lifted her head to look at the four people on the couch.
Clara twisted her body and faced Jannah, a pout settling on her face, "We heard from Jeriel that you were sold off to Count Nige. We were worried."
"Oh." Jannah blinked, feeling Jeriel’s embrace tightening a little when Clara voiced out the reason why they were gathering inside the study room, "So you gathered here just to what?"
The question was genuine, she didn’t know why they would feel anything negative from the news when she was fine with it and even asked Jeriel to do it for the second time to get rid of Baron Pangasikan— which was a success based on the head presented to her.
It came with a great cost though.
"So? You’re okay with it?" Merlot asked, his eyebrows furrowing in both confusion and slight disbelief, "Did you agree with Jeriel’s doings?"
"Well.. She sold me off before she told me so I really didn’t have a chance to say anything." Jannah blinked and shrugged, showing them she doesn’t really care about the issue at hand.
"Ha..!" Merlot laughed sharply which sounded like he was scoffing at how ridiculous the Rafelon sisters were.
"Don’t mind him, Jannah." Clara said, waving her hand dismissively and giggled, "I will be stationed at the house beside the blacksmith shop, right?"
Jannah stares at her for a moment, she knows that Clara’s merely trying to lighten up the mood so Jannah obliged, not seeing any rational reason to keep reprimanding them.
"No, not anymore." She shifted in her seat and changed Jeriel’s position into a more comfortable one, "I will be creating a house after we have our breakfast and you will be stationed there instead."
"What?" Clara blinked.
