Chapter 67: Suck Energy

After hearing their story, Mineah couldn't help but admire the King of Cordon for what he did for Nikolai. Knowing what she did now, she was more than glad and satisfied that her sister Xenia was in good hands. King Darius was obviously a good and responsible man, and she couldn't have asked for a better brother-in-law.

"Right, I'm fully relieved to know that my sister is in good hands now," she couldn't help but voiced out her thoughts.

"Yes," Nikolai hummed in agreement. "Darius is a good man, and he will take care of your sister well, Mine."

"No wonder then that your alliance is very strong," Mineah nodded in understanding. "You and King Darius have a really good relationship as friends… Ah, no… it's more like a brotherhood between you two."

"I couldn't agree more," Nikolai sagely nodded. "We're almost like a family these days. And to be honest, I would've willingly given in to any of his requests if I wasn't with my entourage at the time. Politics is just a pain in the ass, unfortunately…"

Mineah smiled as she felt a sense of pride and accomplishment at how she found out more about her husband.

"I'm glad you decided not to end your life, Lai. Thank you for staying alive and accepting me as your wife," she genuinely stated. "Honestly, I never thought that someone would. All my life, I've felt like men would constantly avoid me because they were afraid of the curse I had. They were afraid that I would bring them misfortune."

"They are all stupid then, Mine," Nikolai firmly stated. "But to be honest, I'm glad that no one tried… Since you're clearly meant for me. You're mine."

Mineah chuckled as she blushed hard at his words, not to mention how her heart was currently drumming hard against her chest. She was squealing inside, and yet she was speechless all the same.

"We'll do the Coupling Rites tonight, so you should rest as we travel," he reminded her. "Don't worry, I'll hold onto you firmly so that you won't fall off…"

Mineah simply nodded.

"Also, do your shadow maidens have the ability to cast a barrier that will block the scent of your blood?" Nikolai asked. "I believe that the heavenly scent that you have might cause an uproar among the citizens of my kind. We don't want them using it against you now. If possible, we should take steps to keep your scent hidden…"

Mineah hummed at his suggestion. She had honestly already thought about that the moment she heard how Nikolai described her blood seeing that it could potentially bring the existence of their kind to the public, something that their mother and father had been protecting for years.

"Yes, I can protect myself. And yes, I can cast a spell like that on myself. My shadow maidens won't be able to do it though," she promptly explained. "I'll need some of your energy to do it, Lai. Like how you allowed me to do so while I bound Nik to me. I'm sorry… I'm just not powerful enough to do it on my own at the moment."

Unfortunately for her, only with Nikolai's powerful energy could she execute the spell that would hide the scent of her blood and alter it into something much more common.

"If that's the case, then feel free to always use my energy whenever you want, Mine," Nikolai offered. "I really don't mind sharing everything with my wife. Like how you are mine, I'm all yours as well,"

Mineah bit her inner cheek as another deep blush graced her face. She could only utter out a silent sigh of relief that she wasn't face to face with Nikolai at that moment. While she definitely felt his presence hovering around her as they were traveling in his mist form, she was unable to see him physically this way.

Instead, the only thing she could see was how she seemed to be flying up and above the clouds while having a proper view of the surroundings they were passing by.

"Thank you, Lai. I'll keep that in mind," she answered him after barely managing to rein in her fluttering heart.

A brief silence settled, and they enjoyed the sights while flying about. Eventually, however…

"Are you aware that it's rare for a human to have such an ability?" Nikolai suddenly asked.

"I'm sorry?" she murmured, wondering where he was going with this line of questioning.

"You sucking out energy for your use," he clarified. "From what I can recall, no human or mage had been successful with doing it, especially on powerful mediums like myself."

"Ah…" Mineah hummed. "I'm aware of that. Our wizard Lurio had proposed this method to my parents back then since I've had a weak constitution since the day I was born. My parents were so worried that they did their best to find all sorts of solutions to protect me. Wizard Lurio then started to train me the moment I learned to speak. Likewise, my parents allowed it even though wizard Lurio had already told them that his methods might not even work."

Mineah chuckled and added, "Honestly, even he himself was astonished that things worked out in my case. He mentioned that it's very rare for it to work and that I'm like a one-in-a-million case that somehow succeeded with it."

"I'm glad things worked out then. At least I won't have to worry too much for your own safety, Mine," Nikolai hummed in relief. "You can always suck energy from an enemy if danger lurks and use that same energy to fight back…"

"Huh. That honestly never crossed my mind…" she chortled.

Soon, however, the smile on her face faded. She had never told anyone about it, but there was honestly something off with her lately whenever she would siphon energy for herself.

She would have this weird feeling of wanting to absorb more than what she needed for her to become more powerful… And it was honestly starting to scare her… She had this fear that there would come a time when she wouldn't be able to stop herself on her own accord and just absorb more and more until she was satisfied.
