Chapter 40: 40: Leaving

Sue

When we stepped out into the cold night, the Princes’ betrothed brides were nowhere to be found and I was beyond relieved, cause I’d rather not get into another exchange with them tonight.

They asked me to wait while they go fetch the car, and once alone, I shivered a little in the cold air, then I massaged my bare arms.

In the next moment, a warm fabric was settled over my shoulders, which instantly made me stiffened, right before I realized what it was. It was a suit jacket that was so damn warm, it made the cold I was feeling disappear at once.

When I glanced sideways to see who it was, I was so surprised by who it was, that my eyes widened.

It was Prince Hugo.

When did he come out here? I didn’t even know he was back there when that announcement was going on, I kind of completely forgot about him. Now that he was here right now, I suddenly wasn’t sure of what to say to him.

"I noticed you were shivering a little and your dress lacks some sleeves, so I decided to offer you my jacket," he explained and I felt so floored, my insides swooping with excitement as I pulled the jacket closer around me. He smelt so good and the scent on the jacket right now was filling up my lungs already.

"Thank you so much, Prince Hugo." I murmured with a smile as I stared up at him, still gripping the lapels of the jacket. "Although, you really didn’t have to."

He let out a soft laugh. "Nonsense, I couldn’t look away even if I wanted to." He drawled and I laughed, but when I wanted to say something else, a voice interrupted us.

"The lady is right, you definitely didn’t have to." Landon’s voice echoed around as he came to stand beside me, making me instantly grow rigid, my heart lurching in my chest.

In the next moment, when I noticed the other two princes approaching as well, I grew more nervous as I slowly dropped my hands from Prince’s Hugo jacket.

The next moment, Landon was tugging the jacket off my shoulders, but I managed to grab onto it at the last moment.

He had a stony expression on when I glanced over at him.

"I feel cold, the jacket is warm." I snapped and he visibly grew angrier, while Prince Hugo hummed behind me.

"The young lady is cold, Landon. You’ll know that if you all didn’t leave her by herself out here." He stated through a soft laugh.

"Mind your business, Hugo." Landon snapped before he successfully wrenched the jacket from my grip and flung it over to Prince Hugo who caught it with a laugh.

"Damn, it’s just a jacket." He sighed as he folded said jscket over his arm.

"Stay away from our mate, at least I’m certain you heard our announcement in there." Landon pointed out and Prince Hugo rolled his eyes.

"I did, but it meant nothing. A lot can happen in a week, after all." Prince Hugo responded and that’s the moment Damon let out a loud snort.

"I think it’s high time you stop deluding yourself, Hugo. You already know you’ll never become king. You’ll spend the rest of your life answering to us after one week from tonight." Damon drawled and my eyes widened as I looked between the four men.

Angelo was silent throughout.

Prince Hugo folded his arms, looking completely unfazed as he spoke. "Till then. But for now, we’re all on the same level, and again, a lot can happen in a week. Presently, you’re just princes like I also am, so don’t get too cocky."

Landon was fuming beside me, and when I took a step away, his grip settled on my arm, pinning me in place.

Prince Hugo snorted. "You all gonna tie this poor girl to you against her will? Cause I just know she’d never agree to be mated to three monsters like you three." Prince Hugo drawled and Landon stiffened beside me.

"That’s enough, Hugo." Angelo finally spoke, his voice holding so much authority, that Hugo swallowed the rest of his words.

"At least let her take my jacket, she’s clearly freezing off." Prince Hugo later sighed out after about two seconds and everyone’s attention focused on me.

"She’s fine." Damon snapped and I let out a scoff as I shot him a glare.

"I’m not! I’m really cold." I pointed out.

Beside me, Landon shrugged out of his jacket and held it out for me but I shook my head, wrapping my arms around myself instead.

"I’m fine, thanks." I muttered.

I didn’t want his jacket, not when he looked like he didn’t want to give me in the first place.

However, Landon ignored me and draped the jacket over my shoulders. Before I could start to argue, the car finally pulled up. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

I let out a sigh, turning to thank Prince Hugo again, knowing that this might put me In trouble with the princes tonight, but I didn’t care.

"Thank you again."

He grinned as he nodded at me. "Of course, and have a lovely night. I’ll come by the palace tomorrow then we can finally have an uninterrupted conversation, hopefully."

"That’s never happening, so get lost." Landon said as he held the car door open for me.

I pursed my lips in irritation, wishing they’d stop arguing as I stepped into the silver limousine.

Landon stepped in along with me as well, taking the spot beside me, with no space between us. Damon came to take the one beside me, and Angelo took the one in front of me.

Angelo didn’t look happy, he actually look irritated as he regarded me.

"Did you forget my warning concerning Prince Hugo?"

As he spoke, my eyes widened and my heart thumped hard against my ribs.

"I- I didn’t do anything with him..."

He didn’t say anything else, he only let out a chuckle that made a nervous shiver roll down my spine.

In the next moment, he patted his laps as he spoke in that low, husky voice of his.

"Come over here. I think you need something to remind you next time, to stay away from that bastard."
