Chapter 105: Heaven’s eye

"I did not mean for it to develop a spirit. Honestly, it was an innocent mistake." The man’s cheeks turned a little red in embarrassment as he explained, "I was very interested in alchemy and my father gifted me a cauldron when I was just eight years old. I used to practice with the cauldron every day and I cared for it deeply. Although all my practice was fruitless, after twenty years of constantly being with me, the cauldron suddenly developed a spirit, and then I started learning more about spirits and that’s how I came to know how to use it."

Hua Tianshu could immediately guess most of what the man had failed to explain.

For twenty years, the man cared for the cauldron and it started absorbing spiritual energy from the herbs that Wang Zexian used in order to practice making a pill. Although none of the pills were successful, the cauldron certainly got a lot of spiritual Qi and in turn, it developed a spirit.

According to what Yao Fei had told them about spirits, this theory made perfect sense, however, Hua Tianshu still couldn’t help but feel a little impressed by Wang Zexian.

He was either extremely lucky and hardworking or just stupid and unbelievably favored by the heavens.

"Is that why you noticed the demonic Qi contained in the blood?"

The man immediately nodded his head as he confirmed it and spoke, "Since I have knowledge and experience with spirits, it was easy for me to notice."

Jie Fu Lian also had experience and knowledge of spirits but he hadn’t noticed...

Hua Tianshu suddenly felt as if this man could be of help in the future. Although he had acted as a spy, it was clear that he was forced to do so. He looked like a coward and it seemed as if he followed orders well so of course Hua Tianshu saw some potential in him.

"Did you see the demon’s face?"

The man shook his head, "He masked his face and voice. Even if I see him, I would not able to recognize him."

"Then how do you plan to report back to him?" Hua Tianshu raised his eyebrow as he questioned.

Wang Zexian gulped as he took out a bell from his sleeve pocket and spoke, "He told me to use this."

Hua Tianshu slightly frowned as he looked at the bell.

It was a normal voice transmission bell. As long as the recipient was clearly named, this bell could deliver a message even if the recipient was trapped in the demon realm. It was used to transmit a message long distance when the recipient’s location was unclear.

"He must have given you his name," Hua Tianshu immediately spoke.

The man nodded his head, "He did."

"Why didn’t you tell me?"

Wang Zexian gulped as he hesitated for a few seconds before revealing, "I didn’t think you’d be interested since the name is fake."

"What was the demon’s name?" Hua Tianshu pressed.

Wang Zexian pointed up as he muttered, "Heaven’s eye."

"..." Hua Tianshu slowly raised his head and looked up at the sky before looking back at Wang Zexian. For a moment, he was a bit speechless and his mind was a bit blank.

He looked as if he wanted to question the name but at the same time, it looked as if he was going to have a headache if he actually asked.

A demon having the name ’Heaven’s eye’... It was certainly an original and creative name.

"Wang Zexian," Hua Tianshu cleared his throat as he immediately changed the topic and spoke, "Report back to that heaven’s eye and tell him that I’m going to look for the master of curses in the demon realm."

Wang Zexian enthusiastically nodded his head, agreeing.

"And get him to talk."

"Huh?"

"Try asking him whether he wants you to follow me or if he plans on following me himself. Just get him to give you a response. Build a good relationship with him and make it seem as if you are truly working for him. Wang Zexian, from this moment on, you are going to become his most obedient and trusted subordinate."

Wang Zexian’s face reflected a range of different emotions. From confusion to disgust and fear, it was all clearly visible on his face.

"Elder Hua... Weren’t you mad that I spied on you...?" The man asked, feeling extremely confused.

"I was a bit annoyed but since I can now use you, I am willing to let that matter go."

"..."

"From now onwards, you are going to become that demon’s most-trusted subordinate and you are going to find his real identity for me. You must tell me everything that he does and plans to do."

"Elder Hua... That’s impossible...."

"Desperation leads to endless possibilities. I’m not giving you a choice, I’m giving you a chance. A chance to save your life from an immediate torturous death. If you want to live, you better listen to me."

Wang Zexian was once again reminded of the fact that Hua Tianshu could kill him at any given moment and as soon as he remembered his broken hand, he shuddered in fear.

"B-but... Elder Hua, how can I become his trusted subordinate? I’m sure he won’t let his guard down that easily. I’m sure he’ll try to kill me as soon as I become useless to him!"

"Then don’t become useless to him," Hua Tianshu replied with a thin smile that sent a shiver down the man’s spine, "Show him your desperation to live and hope for the best. Flatter him a little, hold onto his leg and beg a little, do whatever you have to do in order to make him see you as a usable tool."

Wang Zexian gulped in fear as he heard this. He suddenly wondered if the demon was crazy or if Hua Tianshu was the real madman.

In the end, he could only let his gut make a decision for him and he concluded that he would obediently listen to Hua Tianshu since this man scared him a lot more than that demon called Heaven’s eye.

"Report back to me using the voice transmission bell. If I don’t hear back from you within ten days, I’ll personally come looking for you and you would certainly not want that," Hua Tianshu warned.

Wang Zexian gulped as he heard this. Feeling terrified of the man, he obediently nodded his head.

In the very next moment, Hua Tianshu used a transportation talisman to leave the HuiXue sect and headed out to the demon realm in search of the fake ’art of controlling spirits’ cultivation manual.

He didn’t know where Jie Ming had run off to but he had a feeling that the man had run away to the demon realm since that was the only place where he could hide.

However, although he had a guess that he would be able to find Jie Ming there, he didn’t go looking for the man.

He had already promised to be patient and although he was scared and insecure, he wanted to believe that Jie Ming would keep his promise and return.

He had already waited eight years for the man so he convinced himself that waiting a few more days was not that hard.

The last time he had visited the demon realm, he had been a little too excited and ended up causing a lot of trouble. He had burned down the houses that belonged to the demon king’s concubines and beaten quite a few number of demons. Thanks to his reckless actions, he was allowed to meet the demon king so he didn’t really regret his actions.

However, this time, he was not planning on doing the same. Avoiding trouble completely was obviously not something possible, but at least, he would no longer be burning down houses.

With this in mind, Hua Tianshu hid his cultivation and entered the demon realm.

The demon realm was very different from the mortal realm, but at the same time, there were some similarities such as the fact that both had cities, towns, and even countries. However, unlike the mortal realm, all the land inside the demon realm was owned and controlled by the demon king Shen Fang. This indirectly meant that as long as one was inside the demon realm, the demon king would be immediately made aware of their existence.

Hua Tianshu landed in a seemingly nameless ghost town that was located in the southern province of the demon realm.

Although it had no name and seemed like a ghost town, in reality, there were still demons living in this small town.

Since Hua Tianshu had been here once before, he knew the general layout of the town and was well aware of how harmless it was.

Most of the demons who lived in this nameless town were old and dying. They disliked noise and they hated travelers. Their only joy in life was carving rocks and boulders, because of which, the whole town sometimes seemed like a huge marketplace for stone statues.

However, most of the sellers were hiding inside their houses and there was not even a single buyer in sight so it was more accurate to call it an abandoned marketplace for stone statues.
