Chapter 115: They aren’t connected...

Jie Fu Lian’s eyebrows creased together as he heard this and he suddenly remembered the day when he had been driven insane by anger when he saw Hua Tianshu’s heavily injured body.

He recalled the words spoken by Tail that day: Young Master, you are a human, not a demon. Always remember that.

If Tail hadn’t stopped him that day, he would have certainly killed everyone.

"They aren’t connected..." Hua Tianshu suddenly muttered, realizing something.

Jie Fu Lian looked at the man with a small frown as he asked, "What?"

"The master of curses and Heaven’s eye..." Hua Tianshu replied as he lifted his head to look at Jie Fu Lian with his eyes wide open in shock, "They aren’t accomplices."

"Huh?"

"That’s why he laughed!" Hua Tianshu exclaimed, slowly putting the pieces together, "He laughed because he had no connection with the master of curses! In fact, I think he wants us to catch the master of curses!"

Jie Fu Lian couldn’t help but feel a little confused as he heard this.

The demon suddenly interrupted the conversation with a cough as he spoke, "By the way, we have arrived."

Hua Tianshu immediately looked ahead at the small dilapidated house that they had arrived in front of.

"It seems that he moved away," The demon awkwardly added.

The roof of the house had already caved in and climbing plants had already covered the walls. With just a single glance, one would be able to guess that the house hadn’t been occupied for quite some years.

Hua Tianshu let out a sigh as he spoke, "He didn’t move away."

"Huh?"

Hua Tianshu opened the door of the dilapidated house and entered. He quickly looked around once and spoke, "There was a fight."

Jie Fu Lian also nodded his head as he looked around.

After a closer inspection, it didn’t look like the roof of the house had caved in due to years of neglect. The roof was broken during a fight inside the house and hence, everything in the house was a mess.

Amidst the mess, in the middle of the house, there was something kept covered by a piece of tattered white cloth.

Jie Fu Lian and Hua Tianshu looked at each other and nodded once before Jie Fu Lian took a few steps forward towards the object and slowly pulled the tattered white cloth away. As soon as the thing was revealed, Jie Fu Lian gasped as he stumbled a few steps back in horror.

It was a chair and on the chair sat the remains of a victim that had been burnt alive. The corpse still had its mouth wide open, seeming as if it was screaming for its life. The arms of the corpse were crossing each other from the front and seemed to have been tightly tied to the body. The legs had been cut off before the victim had died and hence, they were missing.

The chair did not show any sign of being burnt and it could be guessed that the victim had been burnt first and his remains had later been placed on the chair.

This corpse was purposefully placed here for someone to see.

The demon looked to be quite shocked as he looked at the burnt corpse and a sudden thought crossed his mind. He felt a shiver run down his back as he hesitantly muttered with his shaky voice, "It was... Heaven’s eye...?"

Hua Tianshu gulped as he took a sharp breath in and nodded his head, "We were wrong. He didn’t let the culprit go. He got his revenge."

The demon suddenly took a step back as he heard this and his expression turned a little grave as cold sweat started forming on his forehead.

"We shouldn’t be here..." The demon muttered.

Hua Tianshu and Jie Fu Lian turned their heads in unison and looked at the anxious demon as they heard this.

Jie Fu Lian opened his mouth to say something but before any words could leave his mouth, the demon continued, "He probably knows. He knows that we’re here."

Jie Fu Lian’s eyebrows creased together as he heard this and he asked, "Who knows?"

"Heaven’s eye."

"That’s impossible," Jie Fu Lian sighed as he replied.

"Why would he leave this out here if he didn’t know...?! He’s warning us!" The demon warned as he looked around in fear.

Jie Fu Lian put the piece of cloth back on the corpse and covered up its haunting expression as he spoke, "He doesn’t know and he didn’t leave this out as a gift for us."

"H-how do you know that? How can you be sure?"

"Look at the leg of the chair," Jie Fu Lian pointed down as he spoke.

The demon frowned as he heard this and although hesitant, he still looked down as he asked, "What about it?"

Jie Fu Lian walked up behind the chair and pulled it up as he spoke, "Did you notice it?"

The demon only looked to be more confused as he heard this question and he shook his head.

"What am I supposed to notice?"

Hua Tianshu also looked down and pointed out, "The bottom of the chair’s leg. There was dust collecting around the chair but not where the chair had been placed."

Jie Fu Lian nodded his head as he added, "Judging from how deep the hole made by the chair’s leg is, we can say that this chair was placed here about a few months ago."

Hua Tianshu agreed and spoke, "The chair was placed here with the corpse just a few months ago but this man was killed way before that."

"It looks recent," Jie Fu Lian replied with a small frown, refuting Hua Tianshu’s statement.

Hua Tianshu shook his head as he explained, "The house looks like it was destroyed quite a few years ago. The man was probably killed on the same day."

"But the body hasn’t decomposed yet."

"That’s right," Hua Tianshu nodded his head, "The body hasn’t decomposed yet, but that’s because it was being preserved."

"Preserved?" Jie Fu Lian repeated and once again lifted the tattered piece of cloth and carefully looked at the burnt corpse.

"There are no insects daring to come near it nor are there any plants or grass near the body. If I’m not wrong, the body is being preserved by a demonic cultivator. To be more exact, a type of ghost Qi technique is being used to preserve the corpse."

"Ghost Qi technique..." Jie Fu Lian frowned as he muttered, finding the name awfully familiar.

"You must have learned about it," Hua Tianshu spoke as he looked at Jie Fu Lian.

Jie Fu Lian’s eyes widened and he immediately exclaimed, "Ah! I remember!"

Jie Fu Lian hardly ever paid attention to the morning classes of the Yan Sect. In fact, he hardly ever attended them and whenever he did attend, you’d be able to find him sleeping with his eyes closed. The knowledge he gained from those morning classes was almost negligible.

However, there were some rare times when Xian Huan and Xue Lian forcefully pulled him to attend the morning classes in which he didn’t fall asleep.

During such a rare time, when he attended the morning class, the topic was Ghost Qi and since he found the topic a little interesting, he decided to pay attention.

Ghost Qi was a type of energy that was collected directly from the souls of those that had already passed away. Collecting Ghost Qi was not an easy task and since it prevented the souls from entering the cycle of rebirth, it was not exactly considered ethical either.

Ghost Qi was not very powerful and there were many limits to what a person could do with it. Demons considered Ghost Qi as a cheap trick while orthodox cultivators considered it as a forbidden evil technique. Demonic cultivators were the only ones who dared to use Ghost Qi, but even among them, there were hardly any that mastered using Ghost Qi techniques.

Ghost Qi could be used to control the corpse of a dead person and it could also be used to interact with the dead.

Preserving a corpse using Ghost Qi was unheard of but not completely impossible.

Just like how the corpse puppets made using corpse powder never rotted away, the puppets made with Ghost Qi also had the ability to preserve themselves.

However, the corpse in front of them wasn’t a corpse puppet. It was just a corpse that had been infused with Ghost Qi in order to preserve it.

"Why would someone want to preserve this corpse?" Jie Fu Lian curiously asked, feeling confused as he looked down at the corpse’s missing legs.

Without legs, this corpse couldn’t even be used as a powerful puppet. At most, it could be used to scare others.

"To enjoy the look on his face," Hua Tianshu spoke up as he looked at the distressed face of the corpse, "He was murdered for revenge and the murderer wasn’t satisfied with just killing the man. The murderer wanted to make sure that this man’s corpse was preserved well so that the murderer could look at it and feel a sense of enjoyment."

"Enjoyment?" Jie Fu Lian repeated, cringing as he looked at the haunting face of the corpse that had its mouth wide open, almost ripping apart.

Who in the hell would enjoy looking at this...?!
