"Heaven’s eye is better than that rat. He doesn’t kill people nor does he cause any trouble. He keeps himself hidden because he wants to live a long peaceful life. He was just an unfortunate child who became victim to a madman’s wicked game and was turned into a monster."

Jie Fu Lian lightly frowned as he heard this and thought back to the time when they had first come in contact with heaven’s eye in the witness’ memory.

The culprit had killed Bai LiuXian and tried to hide the fact that Bai LiuXian was a half-demon.

By pretending to be Jie Fu Lian, he successfully made people believe that Bai LiuXian was a normal man who was cruelly killed by Jie Fu Lian. Hence, blaming the murder on Jie Fu Lian and making people turn against him.

He managed to hit two birds with a single stone.

Jie Fu Lian had never met or heard of a man named ’Heaven’s eye’ and the only thing he had in common with Bai LiuXian was the fact that the two were half-demons.

Jie Fu Lian and Hua Tianshu had already guessed it once but it seemed that Heaven’s eye really did have a hatred towards half-demons.

However, his hatred could hardly be understood.

The one who kidnapped him and forced him to become a half-demon was the mysterious man who created the dark art of summoning spirits.

If heaven’s eye was a victim then the culprit was definitely that mysterious man.

Why would the victim hate people like him rather than focusing his hatred on the real culprit...?

No matter how much Jie Fu Lian thought about it, he simply could not wrap his head around it.

"They could have had a connection," Hua Tianshu spoke up as a response to the demon and the demon immediately frowned.

Jie Fu Lian turned his head to curiously look at Hua Tianshu and asked, "What do you mean?"

Heaven’s eye had sent Wang Zexian to spy on Hua Tianshu. The master of curses seemed to have already been aware of Jie Fu Lian’s return and wanted to kill the man again.

There was no doubt that the two had some sort of connection.

"I’ll tell you everything later," With a sigh, Hua Tianshu replied to Jie Fu Lian.

Jie Fu Lian frowned as he heard this but said nothing.

"I’ve heard that the master of curses has a powerful backing," Hua Tianshu pointed out as he asked, "Do you perhaps know who that is?"

"I have also heard about that," The demon nodded his head as he admitted, "But I don’t know who it is."

"Is there perhaps a chance that the powerful backer could be Heaven’s eye?"

The demon immediately shook his head as he strongly refused, "No way! That’s simply impossible."

"Why?"

The demon scratched his nose as he spoke, "For starters, the one backing him up isn’t a demon."

"Didn’t you say you didn’t know who it was?" Hua Tianshu asked, feeling a little suspicious of the man.

"I don’t know but I do know that it’s not a demon."

"What makes you so sure?"

"The master of curses only stays in the mortal realm since he has more power and control over there. He has never entered the demon realm. To be more accurate, he isn’t welcome in the demon realm." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

"Why?"

"The demon king has banned him from entering the demon realm and he has also banned every demon from interacting with the master of curses. Actually, even if it weren’t for the demon king, I do not believe anyone would be interested in supporting the master of curses. Although he uses a rotten demonic technique, he isn’t a demonic cultivator nor is he a demon."

"Then what is he?"

"A cultivator," The demon replied as he unhesitantly revealed, "He is a cultivator who pretends to be righteous, but no one really knows his identity."

Hua Tianshu immediately looked at Jie Fu Lian who was looking back at him for confirmation and the moment their eyes met, they immediately nodded their heads, having the same thought.

The master of curses had a scar running along the length of his arm and he was a cultivator who had connections with Jin Shifeng. Thanks to these little details, there was a good chance that they would be able to find the man.

"Then his backer must also be from one of the righteous sects...?" Jie Fu Lian tilted his head as he questioned.

The demon nodded his head as he confirmed it, "That’s right. Since it is a powerful backer, it would probably be somebody from one of the most reputed sects."

Just then, Hua Tianshu stopped walking as he heard the ringing of a bell in his ears. It was Wang Zexian.

"Hua Tianshu...?" Jie Fu Lian worriedly called out his name as he turned to look at the man who seemed to be in a daze.

Hua Tianshu didn’t respond to him but he wasn’t ignoring him, it seemed more like he really didn’t hear Jie Fu Lian’s words.

Through the voice transmission bell, Wang Zexian informed him that he had followed Hua Tianshu’s instructions and told Heaven’s eye that Hua Tianshu was going to the demon realm in search of the master of curses.

Wang Zexian acted as if he was genuinely looking forward to becoming a lackey to heaven’s eye and volunteered to go after Hua Tianshu but Heaven’s eye immediately refused and told him to stay still and not do anything. Wang Zexian asked him what he was planning to do next and Heaven’s eye laughed without giving a response. The laugh was meant to mock Hua Tianshu but he never specified why.

Wang Zexian reported everything back to Hua Tianshu word for word without missing anything.

When the message was fully delivered, Hua Tianshu seemed to have snapped out of his daze and his expression suddenly turned a little complicated.

"What happened?" Jie Fu Lian immediately asked, feeling even more worried.

"He laughed...?" Hua Tianshu muttered, feeling extremely confused.

Jie Fu Lian’s eyebrows creased together as he heard this, "Who laughed?"

Instead of giving a clear response to his question, Hua Tianshu looked at the man with a small frown as he asked, "Why would he laugh?"

"What are you talking about?"

"Something’s wrong," Hua Tianshu commented as he shook his head.

Had Heaven’s eye already figured out that Wang Zexian had lied to him?

Hua Tianshu suddenly looked at the demon who was guiding them and hurriedly asked, "Is Heaven’s eye living in the demon realm?"

The demon thought about it for a minute before he shook his head and spoke, "It’s unlikely. The man told me that he planned to take Heaven’s eye to the mortal realm."

"Why would he do that?"

"He needed to hide the child from the demon king. Forcefully turning a child into a half-demon isn’t exactly condoned by the demon king."

"Then is it possible for Heaven’s eye to stay in the mortal realm and still receive timely news from the demon realm?"

The demon once again shook his head as he spoke, "Heaven’s eye doesn’t trust anyone and nobody trusts him either so it’s impossible for him to have someone helping him."

"Can he not threaten them to work for him?"

"That sounds possible but it’s highly unlikely," The demon firmly replied.

"Why?"

"Because of the demon king, of course." The demon answered as if he was stating facts that should have been known by everyone, "If there is a rumor that a half-demon exists, the demon king would immediately interfere and unless the person was as lucky as Jie Fu Lian, he would be killed without a doubt. Compared to Heaven’s eye, the demon king is a lot more dangerous so how can anyone be threatened by Heaven’s eye when they know that helping him would mean going against the demon king?"

"The demon king hates half-demons...?" Jie Fu Lian asked with a frown, feeling a little shocked.

"It would be an exaggeration to say that he ’hates’ them. He just finds their existence a threat since he’s also a half-demon. You must have heard of the rumors, have you not? The demon king personally gave a test to immortal Jie Fu Lian. It is believed that Jie Fu Lian passed the test and hence, the demon king did not kill him."

Jie Fu Lian’s eyebrows creased together as he immediately understood what the demon was talking about.

"What are the criteria for passing and failing?"

"I don’t know," The demon shrugged his shoulders as he replied.

"Control..." Hua Tianshu muttered as he spoke, "The criteria for judging is control."

"What do you mean?"

"Back then, Jie Fu Lian didn’t kill anyone inside the illusion dream," Hua Tianshu pointed out as he responded, "The purpose of the illusion was to make him lose control. The demon king wanted him to kill everyone inside the illusion dream and if he did so, he would’ve failed the test."

Jie Fu Lian’s eyebrows creased together as he heard this and he suddenly remembered the day when he had been driven insane by anger when he saw Hua Tianshu’s heavily injured body.

He recalled the words spoken by Tail that day: Young Master, you are a human, not a demon. Always remember that.

If Tail hadn’t stopped him that day, he would have certainly killed everyone.
