Chapter 163: I only followed his orders!

"How the hell did you know?!" Song Xiuying cried out, glaring at Xue Lan with hostility.

"At first, it was just a guess," It was Quan Mu who chuckled as he spoke, answering her question, "It was actually you who gave us a hint."

Song Xiuying frowned as she turned to look at Quan Mu.

"You stopped crying," Xue Lan spoke as he added, "When your father died. You were more interested in listening to us talk. Normally, people do not stay that calm when they see their father’s dead body sitting in front of them."

Quan Mu nodded and spoke, "You also agreed to become the bait. Even after seeing what that beast did to your father, you still dared to become the bait. That was quite courageous of you."

"So it was a trap all along?"

Quan Mu and Xue Lan glanced at each other before turning to look at Song Xiuying as they nodded in unison.

The demon was so agitated by their words that it immediately stopped pretending to be Song Xiuying and showed its true self.

"You bastards!" The demon roared as it harshly threw the hostage aside, almost killing the poor woman.

Luckily, Xue Lan managed to catch the woman before she hit the wall and Quan Mu stepped up to defeat the demon.

"That was quite a stupid decision," Quan Mu commented as he caught both its hands and ripped them apart from its body.

Xue Lan, who saw this sight, couldn’t help but frown a little, feeling quite stunned.

The demon tried to use its demonic Qi against Quan Mu but before the demonic Qi could touch Quan Mu, Xue Lan acted first and blocked it with his spiritual sword that immediately absorbed the demonic Qi.

The demon looked to be extremely confused but wasn’t given the chance to think about it too deeply.

In the end, Quan Mu and Xue Lan worked together and managed to successfully capture the demon.

"Why did you come here and why were you targeting these innocent villagers?" Xue Lan questioned, his voice extremely cold and harsh.

The demon gritted its teeth but refused to say anything.

Xue Lan raised his sword and cut off the demon’s right leg as he spoke, "Next would be your neck."

The demon roared in anger and pain.

"Why are you here?"

"I-I was only following orders!"

Xue Lan’s eyebrows creased together as he heard this and he asked, "What do you mean?"

"H-He told me to come here! I don’t know why! I only followed his orders! I don’t know anything!" The demon desperately cried out.

"Who is ’he’? And why would you follow his orders?"

"He’s the-"

Burst!

Suddenly, without any warning, the demon’s head exploded right in front of their eyes.

Xue Lan’s eyes widened in shock and Quan Mu only frowned, looking unhappy at the situation.

With a loud complaining sigh, Quan Mu looked down at the blood and brain matter that had splattered onto his clothes, and with a disgusted expression plastered on his face, he wiped it away.

Xue Lan gulped as he immediately turned to look at Quan Mu and questioned, "Did you do that?"

Quan Mu didn’t seem to have expected that question and shook his head as he honestly replied, "It wasn’t me. Why would you even think that?"

For a second there, Xue Lan doubted Quan Mu’s words. However, it was clear that Quan Mu had been beside him all this time so even if he doubted him, he couldn’t help but feel as if he was questioning an innocent man.

Quan Mu scoffed as he commented, "Wah! I thought we were getting along really well. Brother Xue Lan, I was starting to like you. How can you doubt me like this? I feel betrayed."

Xue Lan sighed and looked to be a bit apologetic as he accepted his fault, "I’m sorry."

Quan Mu didn’t seem to care too much about being accused and as soon as he heard Xue Lan’s apology, he immediately forgave him and smiled as he spoke, "It’s okay. You were shocked. You must have been confused. We all make mistakes."

"But if it wasn’t you then who was it?" Xue Lan asked with a small frown as he looked around at the villagers that looked to be horrified at the sudden turn of events.

"Who knows..." Quan Mu muttered, looking in a certain direction, "Perhaps someone who has nothing better to do. A very annoying person with bad habits."

The memory suddenly disappeared from before Hua Tianshu’s eyes but he wasn’t covered in darkness this time. Instead of wandering through that void of darkness, another memory flashed before his eyes.

"It was you, wasn’t it?" Quan Mu questioned as he glared at the demon king.

Shen Fang smirked as he lowered his eyes and looked at Quan Mu with a look of mild amusement, "I only wished to help you out a little."

"I never asked for your help," Quan Mu retorted.

"But I helped, did I not? If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t have been able to meet him."

Quan Mu didn’t look to be too happy when he heard this. His eyes dangerously narrowed down on the demon king as he asked, "What the hell are you trying to do? Why are you suddenly so interested in me? Is it fun? To play around like this?"

Shen Fang nodded his head without any hesitation as he coldly spoke, "It’s fun."

Quan Mu gritted his teeth as he heard this but gave no response. There was clear hostility in his eyes which made Hua Tianshu question how bad of a relationship he had with the demon king.

Quan Mu suddenly turned around and got ready to leave, not wanting to waste any more of his words on the man.

The memory once again disappeared and a new memory took its place.

This time, there was an odd egg—the size of a large dog, sitting in front of the demon king who looked at it with a complicated expression plastered on his face.

Shen Fang seemed to be entangled in deep thoughts as he looked at the egg and after a few minutes, sighed as he patted the egg and spoke, "It’s a pity that you were left behind like this."

"I feel bad for you, but I don’t think I’ll be able to raise you," Shen Fang continued with a sigh, sounding a bit exhausted, "Don’t worry, I won’t let you end up like my son. Even if it is from afar, I’ll make sure to protect you."

Hua Tianshu frowned a little as he looked at this scene but before he could understand what he was seeing, the scene in front of him changed once again.

"Demon venerable Shen Fang, it’s immortal Jie Fu Lian!" A demon shouted, running towards Shen Fang in a hurry, "H-He jumped into the abyss."

Shen Fang frowned as he heard these words and the aura around him turned dangerous as he questioned, "What do you mean?"

The demon gulped in fear as he frantically tried to explain, "They were all trying to arrest him and he suddenly jumped into the abyss. It was too sudden."

Shen Fang did not bother listening anymore and turned into a little white cat as he ran toward the abyss.

By the time he reached there, Jie Fu Lian was already gone and there was no way of saving him.

Overcome with disbelief, grief, and anger, Shen Fang entered the abyss and searched everywhere for the remains of Jie Fu Lian’s soul but could not find anything.

However, inside the abyss, he did come across something odd. He found Hua Meifang, Yin Ru, Xue Liang, and Shi XiuYing.

The four cultivators were fighting against another man who had his face covered with a black mask.

By the time Shen Fang had found them, the man in the black mask had already killed Shi XiuYing and the other three were also gravely injured.

Shen Fang recognized Yin Ru as Jie Fu Lian’s senior martial sister and decided to help her out.

When the black masked man saw Shen Fang, he immediately retreated and questioned, "Who are you?"

Shen Fang did not feel obliged to answer that question and hence, he immediately attacked the black masked man.

Realizing how powerful his enemy was, the black masked man ran away, not wanting to die at the hands of the demon king. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

Shen Fang saved Yin Ru, Hua Meifang and Xue Liang, however, the damage had already been done and by the time, they came out of the abyss, the three had already gone insane.

When Hua Tianshu saw this scene, he couldn’t help but feel extremely shocked. He was sure that his sister had suffered due to the abyss, but it seemed that the words spouted by Yin Ru were true. It wasn’t the abyss that had almost killed them, it was someone else who had attacked them with the intention of killing them.

If it weren’t for the demon king, perhaps the three would not have even made it out alive.

Shen Fang had failed to recognize the man in the black mask but Hua Tianshu was not the same.

Even though the man’s face was covered with a black mask, Hua Tianshu still managed to recognize him and felt greatly angered.
