Chapter 192: I can’t and I won’t

Shen Chao took a sharp breath in as he looked at the situation and felt that things were getting extremely dangerous.

At this point, it didn’t matter whether the fiends were able to beat him or not. Regardless of the outcome, one thing was sure and it was the fact that none of them were safe and might not even make it out alive.

Shen Chao bit into his finger and took out a small pocket knife. He rubbed his blood on the knife and chanted something under his breath.

The knife started shaking a little and a few drops of cold sweat formed on Shen Chao’s forehead as he tightly held onto the knife and kept chanting.

"What are you doing?" Duan Luoyang worriedly asked as he noticed Shen Chao’s odd behavior.

"Something risky that you won’t like," Shen Chao answered in between his chants.

Duan Luoyang frowned as he heard this and felt as if he should be stopping the man, but at the same time, he knew that Shen Chao was only trying to help and since the situation was dire, he couldn’t make a firm decision.

When Shen Chao was done chanting, he flipped the dagger and held it up with its blade pointed at the soul that the master of curses was holding.

He bit his lip and hesitated for a minute as he wondered if this was really the only option left.

The master of curses was busy fighting the fiends and it was only natural that he did not notice Shen Chao and his actions.

Many of the fiends were killed by the master of curses. However, a seemingly endless army of fiends still remained and it was starting to annoy the man a bit.

One of the fiends pounced at the master of curses with its mouth wide open, trying to bite off the man’s head.

The master of curses condensed high-grade curses into a double-edged black sword and easily cut the fiend down from the middle.

Another fiend managed to cling onto his right leg but was quickly decapitated by the sword of curses.

With a single strike, the man managed to cut down at least five fiends. For a second there, he looked to be dancing with the wind as he gracefully and ruthlessly killed the fiends.

It looked as if the master of curses clearly had the upper hand in this fight. However, this was not entirely true.

Although the fiends were being steadily killed, if one looked closer, they would be able to notice that the fiends were also making progress since they could now take the man by surprise and at least bite down his leg.

Jie Fu Lian gulped as he took out the shiny dagger that he had once gifted to Mo Yang.

After Duan Luoyang had been kidnapped, this dagger had been left behind as a warning and reached Jie Fu Lian’s hands.

This dagger was quite powerful and Jie Fu Lian was sure that with just a single strike, this weapon would be able to take down anyone, no matter how strong they were.

Jie Fu Lian forcefully handed the dagger to Hua Tianshu and tried his best to hide away his suffering as he put on a smile and spoke, "TianTian, do not let him win."

Hua Tianshu’s eyebrows creased together as he heard this. For a second there, he did not understand what Jie Fu Lian was trying to say but when the realization eventually hit him, his frown deepened and he felt a little angry as he immediately shook his head and handed the dagger back to Jie Fu Lian.

"I can’t and I won’t!"

Jie Fu Lian sighed as he heard this response that was to be expected.

"TianTian, you must."

"Definitely not," Hua Tianshu firmly replied without even bothering to entertain the thought.

"TianTian, we can’t let him win," Jie Fu Lian spoke as he helplessly explained, "If things go south, this is our only choice. I’ll be honest with you, it felt nice to dream about a peaceful future with you, but that’s more than enough for me. Even if I die today, I won’t have any regrets so, please... Don’t let him take this body when I die."

The dagger wasn’t for the master of curses, it was for Jie Fu Lian...

At that exact moment, Shen Chao sent his own dagger out forward and pierced through the soul that the master of curses was holding.

Jie Fu Lian felt as if his heart had been pierced through and breathlessly gasped in pain.

"NOOOOO!!!!!" The master of curses cried out, his eyes going wide open in shock.

In just a single moment, the soul was destroyed by Shen Chao’s dagger and no one knew why he had done so.

All of a sudden, the pain that Jie Fu Lian was previously feeling disappeared and he couldn’t help but feel shocked as he muttered, "What happened...?"

Shen Chao sighed in relief, glad to see that it had worked.

"What did you do?!" Duan Luoyang questioned with a pale face, looking to have been horrified by the man’s actions.

"I took a chance," Shen Chao spoke, his lips slowly curling up in a smile as he continued, "I made a guess and it seems like I was right. It’s fortunate that I was ’cause if I were not right, that could have killed Jie Fu Lian."

"Huh...?"

"The master of curses was only able to torture Jie Fu Lian if he had that soul with him. With the soul destroyed, he no longer has control over Jie Fu Lian."

When Duan Luoyang heard this he felt even more confused. However, out of all the questions that he had in mind, there was one that stood out the most.

"So we can beat him now...?"

Shen Chao smiled as he heard this and didn’t bother giving a response. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

Hua Tianshu immediately took the chance to pick up his sword and attacked the master of curses.

The master of curses looked to be extremely pissed but he did not let his anger get the best of him. He skillfully fought back against Hua Tianshu without losing his ground.

If Hua Tianshu hadn’t been so exhausted after fighting that demon, perhaps he would have been able to beat the master of curses with ease. However, with the current condition, it looked as if it was going to be very difficult for him to kill the man.

Jie Fu Lian looked on with great interest and frowned when he eventually realized something.

Mo Xue and Ren Lei who were by his side noticed his expression and couldn’t help but feel concerned.

"What happened?" Ren Lei asked with a small frown as she looked at Jie Fu Lian.

"He’s holding back," Jie Fu Lian muttered.

Mo Xue frowned as he heard this but didn’t feel too shocked. He had also managed to notice this however he decided to keep his mouth shut since he didn’t find it very important.

"Do you remember what happened when we first entered the abyss?" Jie Fu Lian asked and Ren Lei pursed her lips into a thin line as she gave a nod.

"I remember the way he fought," Jie Fu Lian spoke as he continued, "He was stronger than this. I could feel it."

"Then... Why is he holding back?" Ren Lei questioned, tilting her head in confusion.

"I don’t think he’s doing it on purpose."

"Huh?"

Jie Fu Lian’s lips slightly curled up into a small smile as he spoke, "It think the eternal hell tower wasn’t as easy as he had claimed it to be."

For a second there, Ren Lei was extremely confused, however, she eventually managed to understand what the man was pointing out.

"He is not in the best condition..." Ren Lei muttered, looking to confirm her thoughts.

Jie Fu Lian nodded his head.

"We can beat him!" Ren Lei immediately exclaimed, suddenly feeling excited.

Jie Fu Lian looked down at the shiny dagger that he was holding and sighed as he made up his mind.

"I guess it’s time to fight back with all we have," Jie Fu Lian spoke to himself.

Ren Lei gulped as she heard this and pursed her lips into a thin line before pushing herself up as she spoke, "I guess we can either win or die trying. In any case, although you guys were annoying, it kinda felt nice to meet you. If fates against us then we’ll meet again on the other side of the yellow river."

Jie Fu Lian smiled as he heard this and nodded his head.

Mo Xue sighed as he also stood up and spoke, "Master, it is my duty to protect you. If you walk into fire, I’ll follow right after you."

Jie Fu Lian couldn’t help but chuckle as he heard this, "Mo Xue, I thought you were against the idea of me jumping into fire."

"It’s not my preferred option but I have come to realize that no matter what I think, I can never control you. I might as well just go along with your risky ideas."

Jie Fu Lian smiled as he heard this and nodded his head.

"That’s quite wise of you."
