Chapter 58: It’s you?!

"We are in Nanxun city."

This answer was something Jie Fu Lian had expected to hear but at the same time, it was also a bit hard to believe.

He sighed as he took the medical herb and left the little shop. He tried to remember what had happened before he woke up here but the last thing he could recall was the woman blowing something onto his face.

After that, he passed out, and now, he woke up in the middle of a street.

After walking around for a few minutes, he learned something about this place. To be more accurate, he learned two things about this place. First, this was not Nanxun. Second, the people here were all corpse puppets.

When he put these two facts together, he immediately understood the situation that he was in.

He was trapped in an illusion or to be more exact, a dream.

After passing out in the brothel, he was yet to wake up.

As soon as he figured this out, he started looking for ways to escape but unfortunately, even after an entire day of looking around, he was still clueless and had no way of breaking out of this dream.

By the end of the day, he bought himself a thin cloth that was used to wrap wounds and he tightly wrapped that piece of cloth around his head, almost covering his entire face, only leaving out his eyes from being wrapped.

He did this in order to prevent himself from inhaling too much corpse powder. If hadn’t done it, he was afraid that he would also turn out as one of those corpse puppets before he even got a chance to escape from this place.

Of course, his actions were still a bit excessive since he only needed to cover his nose and mouth.

When he was done, he looked more like a ghost than a human. Even his own reflection in the mirror scared him.

He spent the next four days in this dream without eating, drinking, or sleeping. Not only was he dressed like a ghost but he also acted like one as he walked aimlessly around the city.

On the fifth day, he came across a little cat.

The cat was approximately about ten months old. It had pure white fur and fascinating yellow eyes. Unlike other cats that hardly cared to bother humans, this cat stopped in front of Jie Fu Lian and seemed to have taken a liking to him.

The cat didn’t reek of corpse powder and hence, Jie Fu Lian could rest assured that the cat was not another one of those corpse puppets. However, this was also one of the reasons why Jie Fu Lian kept his guard up against the cat and didn’t dare get too close to it.

The cat let out a soft ’meow’ and slightly titled its head as it looked at Jie Fu Lian.

It looked quite innocent but Jie Fu Lian was still not convinced.

He decided to ignore the cat and tried to walk around it, but the cat also reacted quick enough and clung to the man’s leg.

Jie Fu Lian frowned as he looked down at the cat and he got ready to take out his sword but in the end, he refrained from doing so.

With a sigh, he made a few hand seals and used the technique ’art of controlling spirits’ to throw the cat away.

Before the cat could make sense of anything, it rose up in the air and was forced to fly far away from the man before being rudely dropped to the ground.

At first, the cat looked to be a little flabbergasted and a few seconds later, it looked to be offended.

Jie Fu Lian turned and got ready to leave, not expecting the cat to follow him.

After walking for just a few steps, Jie Fu Lian felt as if there was an abnormal weight on one of his legs, and hence, he looked down only to be met with a pair of bright yellow eyes, looking at him expectantly.

"..."

This cat was quite persistent.

In the end, Jie Fu Lian lost against the cat’s persistence and was forced to adopt it.

For the next three days, the cat accompanied Jie Fu Lian no matter where he went and the man also fed and took care of the cat like a proper cat owner.

Before he knew it, he had already formed a bond with the cat.

On the ninth day, he bumped against someone familiar.

With just a glance, he was able to recognize her.

She looked exactly like Hua Tianshu!

"It’s you?! Hua Meifang!"

Hua Meifang blinked a few times as she looked at the ’ghost’ that had approached her.

Jie Fu Lian gulped as he took a step forward and exclaimed, "It’s really you, isn’t it?"

The girl took a step back and frowned as she looked back at Jie Fu Lian, "Who are you?"

Jie Fu Lian immediately realized the fact that his entire head was still covered with a cloth used to wrap up wounds and he felt a little embarrassed as he scratched the back of his neck and spoke, "I’m Jie Fu Lian. Don’t you remember me? I’m from the Yan sect. You and your brother once saved me."

Of course, Hua Meifang recognized the name. It was the name that her obnoxious brother chanted even in his sleep.

However, she was sure that Jie Ming, the target of her brother’s obsession, was a normal man with a handsome face. How could he have gotten hurt to the point of covering up his entire face so thoroughly?

Not knowing how to beat around the bush, she straightforwardly questioned, "What happened to your face?"

"Oh, this? I was trying to stop myself from inhaling the corpse powder present in the air." Jie Fu Lian unhesitantly replied before asking, "But more importantly, what are you doing here? I thought you were kidnapped by that escaped demon!"

Hua Meifang’s frown deepened and she nodded her head as she confirmed it and spoke, "I did get kidnapped."

"Then how come...?" Jie Fu Lian cluelessly blinked.

"Congratulations," Hua Meifang sighed as she shook her head and spoke, "You’ve also been kidnapped now."

"..."

Jie Fu Lian’s mind went completely blank and he slowly started realizing the actual situation that he was in.

He had come to save the Hua siblings but it seemed that he had also fallen prey to the demon that had captured them.

Now, he was also one of the victims waiting to be rescued.

He didn’t know if he wanted to laugh or cry at this sudden turn of events.

"Daoist Fu, you’re a bit dense, aren’t you?" Hua Meifang asked but it sounded more like a statement rather than a question.

"..." Jie Fu Lian was naturally unable to give an answer.

"Does anybody know that you are here?" Hua Meifang asked with a sigh and Jie Fu Lian shook his head.

He had snuck out at night to escape from Jin Long’s never-ending chatter so only Jin Long knew he was out and since Jie Fu Lian had locked the door when he left, Jin long wouldn’t have been able to follow him even if he wanted to. So basically, nobody knew where he had disappeared to.

Hua Meifang pursed her lips into a thin smile as she commented, "Daoist Fu, has anybody ever told you how useless you can sometimes be?"

Jie Fu Lian felt a little speechless as he heard this and he immediately wanted to argue with the girl. He had already surpassed her in terms of cultivation so how could she dare to disrespect him like this?!

It seemed that both the Hua siblings shared the same unsightly attitude!

"Follow me," Hua Meifang spoke with a sigh as she turned around, "I’ll take you to my brother."

Jie Fu Lian instinctually followed after her when he heard this but soon realized that the little cat was no longer following him. Actually, it seemed like the cat had disappeared the moment Hua Meifang had made an appearance.

Jie Fu Lian couldn’t help but wonder if the cat was shy towards strangers.

They walked for a few moments before they reached the gate of the brothel that had started everything.

Jie Fu Lian immediately frowned as he questioned, "Why is your brother staying here?"

"It’s comfortable," Hua Meifang replied without any hesitation.

She pushed open the doors of the brothel and entered first, leaving Jie Fu Lian to follow after her.

Once they were inside, Jie Fu Lian immediately found something strange about the place. This brothel seemed to be rather empty.

Was it because he had killed all the corpse puppets in the real world?

"We were captured in this place," Hua Meifang explained as she spoke up, "We followed after a suspicious-looking man and were led into a trap."

Jie Fu Lian was a little surprised as he heard this and replied, "You too?"

Hua Meifeng raised an eyebrow as she side-glanced at the man and asked, "What do you mean ’you too’? Did the same happen to you as well?"

Jie Fu Lian nodded his head, "It was a man with a black cloak, covering his head and walking around with the scent of corpse powder."

"..." Hua Meifang silently looked back at him as if confirming the same.

This is why you shouldn’t follow strangers.
