Chapter 87: Jie Ming’s murder

"Master Jie Ming, you should go back and look into your death. If my suspicions are right, your death might have been a preplanned murder."

Hua Tianshu immediately snapped out of his thoughts and although he was yet to recover from the pain and disappointment, he made sure to pay attention to what was being said.

"You remember the man I talked about, right? The one who bought the twenty demonic beast souls from the Sect Master of Yu Sect? The one who had a scar running along the length of his arm."

Hua Tianshu nodded his head.

"He might have been related to Master Jie Ming’s murder."

Hua Tianshu’s eyebrows furrowed together and he gulped as he pushed his own feelings aside and questioned, "What do you mean?"

Jie Fu Lian was still not paying attention to the demonic beast king’s words so he thoughtlessly nodded his head to everything that was said.

"I overheard him talking to someone. He mentioned Master Jie Ming’s name and he said..." There was a pause as the demonic beast king took a sharp breath in and recalled the memory, "Even after all the trouble that they had gone through to get rid of you... You were still alive."

Hua Tianshu’s eyes widened in shock as he heard this.

"If they killed you once... They’ll surely try to do it again. You should be careful."

Hua Tianshu looked at Jie Fu Lian as if expecting a certain reaction, but Jie Fu Lian once again nodded his head, without paying much attention.

As expected, when it came to his own life, Jie Fu Lian really didn’t care even if he was murdered or not...

Both Hua Tianshu and Mo Xue helplessly sighed in unison, both feeling greatly disappointed once again.

Mo Xue gulped as he turned his head to Hua Tianshu and continued, "If he doesn’t look into it, I entrust you to do so in his stead. I’m sure you’ll be interested to know the truth. At least, more than him."

Hua Tianshu nodded his head as he assured, "I’ll look into it."

"Good," The demonic beast king sighed in relief as he gave a nod, "As for the Yu Sect disciples, you can take them along with you if you want. I’m no longer in the mood to hear an apology. However, as I have said before, I can’t let you take the sect master."

Hua Tianshu, "I understand, but I still have a request."

"Hmm?"

"Let us meet her. Before we leave, I have a few questions that I need to ask her."

Mo Xue thought about it for a minute before he agreed, "Alright. I’ll let you meet her."

Mo Xue immediately turned to look at the three demonic beasts that were guarding the door and as if guessing his intentions, the three guards stepped up and one of them politely spoke up, "Please, follow us. We’ll take you to the prisoner."

Hua Tianshu looked at Jie Fu Lian and felt his heart clench as he saw the man’s blank expression.

His confession was probably too shocking for Jie Fu Lian. The fact that he hadn’t punched him in disgust was already a blessing. Hua Tianshu convinced himself that he couldn’t be greedier.

From the beginning itself, it was his own choice to like Jie Fu Lian. Even if the other didn’t reciprocate his feelings, he could do nothing about it.

He was always afraid of confessing, but after Jie Fu Lian died, he realized that living with regrets was much worse than being rejected.

When Jie Fu Lian came back again, Hua Tianshu told himself that he would not live in regrets anymore. He had planned to confess when this case was over and the time was right, but he certainly didn’t expect such a turn of events.

His confession had been ruthlessly ignored but he could only try not to look hurt about it.

"Jie Ming, let’s go." He sighed as he cautiously spoke.

Jie Fu Lian didn’t turn to look at him and only nodded his head as he followed behind the three demonic beasts.

Hua Tianshu also didn’t say anything more as he quietly followed behind.

As the two left, the demonic beast king looked at the door for a long time before he finally sighed, "Master... Please, be careful... I don’t want to lose you again."

Eight years ago,

The great king of demonic beasts faced a tribulation that shook both heavens and earth.

The tribulation was so powerful that the entire phoenix mountain shook for days without stopping and many demonic beasts and monsters living on the mountain lost their lives.

Even the great king of demonic beats could not hold on for long and by the end, he collapsed. Bleeding out from all orifices in his body, he turned back into his original form and was at death’s door.

That day, if Jie Fu Lian hadn’t found him in time, he really would have crossed the yellow river.

When he finally gained consciousness, the first thing he saw was Jie Fu Lian’s worried face telling him to go back to sleep.

As the king of demonic beasts, it was only natural that Mo Xue hated human cultivators the most, but although he had gained consciousness, he still had no energy left in his body and couldn’t even push Jie Fu Lian away.

"Your condition hasn’t improved yet," Jie Fu Lian sighed as he spoke, "Go back to sleep. You should take some more rest. Do not worsen your injuries and try to save your energy as much as possible."

Mo Xue didn’t like Jie Fu Lian at all, but he lacked the energy to fight back, and hence, in the end, he could only lay back down obediently as he fell back asleep.

When he woke up again, he saw Jie Fu Lian’s pale face which not only looked worried but also seemed extremely tired now. It looked like this man was also at his limits. His hands were constantly transferring spiritual energy to the demonic beast but it didn’t do much.

Mo Xue soon realized that there was something wrong with Jie Fu Lian. Although he was transferring spiritual energy to Mo Xue, the spiritual energy wasn’t being rejected by the demonic beast king’s body. On the contrary, it seemed like the spiritual energy was already pretty compatible with demonic blood.

When Jie Fu Lian noticed that the demonic beast king had woken up, he stopped transferring spiritual energy and firmly spoke, "I can’t save you like this. At this rate, we’ll both die here."

Mo Xue kept his mouth shut and didn’t bother giving a response to that.

"Let me make a spiritual contract with you," Jie Fu Lian boldly suggested.

If Mo Xue hadn’t been dying, he certainly would have kicked the man out for spouting such bullshit, however, with his current condition, he could do nothing and only stayed silent as he looked back at the man.

"If we make a contract, I’ll be able to save you."

A spiritual contract was a contract between two souls that would forever serve and protect one another.

Through skin transfer, there was a limit to how much spiritual Qi Jie Fu Lian could give. However, if they had a spiritual contract, the spiritual Qi could be transferred without even needing physical contact. It was the fastest and most efficient way to transfer spiritual energy.

If it had been somebody else, perhaps the demonic beast king wouldn’t have even bothered to listen to such a ridiculous suggestion. However, Mo Xue was greatly interested in Jie Fu Lian and wanted to know why this man’s body contained such special spiritual energy that could perfectly blend in with demonic blood.

"I don’t mean to take you in as a pet or anything," Jie Fu Lian sighed as he explained himself, "You are injured and I merely want to help you recover."

His tone was filled with worry and although he was also not in a great condition, he seemed more worried about the demonic beast king than he did for himself.

The demonic beast king couldn’t help but feel a little weird. For the first time in his life, he didn’t feel repulsed by a human being.

The only thing he could think about as he faced Jie Fu Lian was how warm it felt to have someone like this with him.

Swayed by the warm feeling in his heart, the demonic beast king nodded his head as he gave permission and the two soon made a spiritual contract with each other.

Thanks to Jie Fu Lian’s help, Mo Xue survived and that day, both of them learned a very big secret about each other.

Jie Fu Lian learned that the peacock he helped was actually the king of demonic beasts while Mo Xue learned that the man who had helped him was a half-demon who had the blood of the demon king flowing through his veins.

Such a revelation was truly a bit hard to believe and it looked like even Jie Fu Lian was unaware of it so the demonic beast king kept his mouth shut and made sure never to reveal this secret to anyone.
