The Demon King is an Idiot [BL]-Chapter 86: A confession
Tears welled up in Jie Fu Lian’s eyes as he pointed at Hua Tianshu and spoke, "Your life is much more precious to me than that sword!"
Even Jie Fu Lian was shocked by the words that he had spouted on the spur of the moment.
"Jie Ming..." Hua Tianshu sighed as he collected his thoughts and responded, "I never considered you my enemy and you know that too."
Jie Fu Lian simply pursed his lips and refused to say anything to that.
"But you are truly confusing me," The man continued, his words containing a deeper meaning that Jie Fu Lian hadn’t noticed. "At one moment, you call me your enemy, and then in the very next, you value my life more than your own. Just what am I to you?"
Jie Fu Lian gulped as he heard this question and no matter how much he thought about it, he couldn’t come up with an answer.
Hua Tianshu was simply Hua Tianshu to him...
Like a moth to a flame, he had always been attracted to Hua Tianshu. No matter how the man treated him, Jie Fu Lian was unable to stop caring about him. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
When he first heard Hua Tianshu’s name, he immediately gained an interest and wanted to know more about the man and when he got to know more, his interest grew and he wanted to meet the man.
Unknowingly, Hua Tianshu had become an existence that Jie Fu Lian looked up to. A person whom he had placed on a pedestal. Hua Tianshu was everything that Jie Fu Lian had ever wanted to be. He was his idol.
When they finally met each other, Jie Fu Lian had to face the harsh reality that his idol had no interest in him. The real Hua Tianshu was too different from what he had imagined.
He was shocked and angered by their first interaction. When the shock and anger died down, the only emotion left was disappointment and sadness which he did not dare reveal to others.
Only after being insulted by the man did he truly realize just how much he had adored Hua Tianshu.
The admiration that he held for the man soon turned into hatred. That hatred led him to think of the man as his enemy.
In every little thing, he wanted to compete and prove that he was better. He wanted to overthrow Hua Tianshu in every aspect. He wanted to prove himself. He wanted to show the world that even without heavenly spiritual roots, he could become someone much more powerful than Hua Tianshu.
At the time, he didn’t think much of it and thought that it was only natural that the two were always competing. He thought he was doing it all for revenge. He thought only by beating Hua Tianshu would he be able to pay back the man for his harsh words, but in reality, he was only fooling himself.
Never in his life had he truly hated Hua Tianshu.
What he wanted to do was not to be better than Hua Tianshu.
The only thing he ever wanted was for Hua Tianshu to look back at him the same way he looked at Hua Tianshu.
He wanted Hua Tianshu to acknowledge his presence. He wanted the man to look at him and smile. He wanted to be close to the man, close enough for them to meet whenever they wanted and share a delightful conversation without any awkwardness.
He was quite greedy...
He wanted to see Hua Tianshu smile, not for anyone else, but for Jie Fu Lian. A smile that was only reserved for Jie Fu Lian. He wanted the man to speak softly and say words that he would never say to anyone else.
Foolishly enough, he had never acknowledged these desires that he held onto deep in his heart.
He wasn’t stupid enough to not know what he wanted. He was just afraid.
He was afraid that if he acknowledged his desires, he’d want to make them come true.
He was afraid that if he accepted it, he would confess to Hua Tianshu.
He was afraid that if he confessed, Hua Tianshu would turn around in disgust and never look at him again.
As his father had always said, Jie Fu Lian was truly a good-for-nothing coward.
He was so afraid of taking a chance that he’d rather die with regrets than confess his true feelings.
Even now, as he realized his own feelings, he was still too afraid to speak them out loud.
He clearly knew the answer to Hua Tianshu’s question but no matter how much he tried, he would never be able to say it out loud.
Jie Fu Lian closed his eyes as he clenched his fist and spoke, "You are Hua Tianshu."
Hua Tianshu’s eyebrows creased together and he didn’t know if he was supposed to feel relieved or disappointed by this answer.
Jie Fu Lian lowered his head and didn’t bother explaining further.
The demonic beast king suddenly sighed as he spoke up, "I feel a little sad for you, Daoist Hua. It seems that my master considers you as nothing more than a mere acquaintance."
Hua Tianshu immediately threw Mo Xue a glare and the demonic beast king didn’t dare say anything more.
"I’m sorry," Hua Tianshu sighed, sounding guilty as he apologized and spoke, "I forced you to answer a question that you didn’t want to answer."
Jie Fu Lian remained silent.
"But Jie Ming, to me, you aren’t a mere acquaintance." Hua Tianshu continued and Jie Fu Lian lifted his head to look up at the man, "You aren’t an enemy I hate or a friend I feel comfortable with."
Jie Fu Lian could feel his heart ache as he heard this but he could not let it show on his face. He needed to hide his feelings ’cause he was afraid to get hurt even more.
"You are the person that I like."
"..." Jie Fu Lian’s eyes widened in shock and his heart started racing inside his chest, this time, it wasn’t due to fear.
For a second there, he was a bit too hopeful.
He was a bit too happy and optimistic. However, that second did not last long.
Jie Fu Lian immediately convinced himself that there was a misunderstanding.
There was no way Hua Tianshu would reciprocate his feelings...
"You are impulsive but always calm. You try your best in everything. The more discouragement you get, the more enthusiastically you try again. You do not care about what others say about you. You are clumsy and can’t even remember names or faces well. You can be rude sometimes and you like to show off a lot but..." Hua Tianshu paused as he took a deep breath in and calmly continued, "I like you for who you are. In my eyes, your every trait only adds to your charm. So don’t you dare compare yourself to me. Don’t you dare say my life is more important than yours."
Jie Fu Lian pursed his lips and tried his best to hold back the tears that were trying to escape from his eyes.
His heart stopped racing and he once again felt a little disappointed as he convinced himself: As expected, Hue Tianshu was only saying this as a friend...
The demonic beast king coughed twice and cleared his throat as he suddenly interrupted, "I do not mean to disturb your moment but I don’t really enjoy feeling like an uninvited guest in my own home."
After witnessing such an intense argument between the two lovebirds, Mo Xue didn’t even have the heart to bring back the conversation to the main topic. He no longer wanted to ask for Jie Fu Lian’s apology. In fact, he felt as if he was in the wrong for revealing things that should have never been revealed.
He was only trying to help. He thought Jie Fu Lian would be touched to hear what Hua Tianshu was willing to do for him, but it seemed that the reaction he received wasn’t the one that he had expected. Instead of helping, he had made matters worst.
Jie Fu Lian quickly wiped the tears away as he straightened his back and looked at Mo Xue.
Ignored by Jie Fu Lian, Hua Tianshu’s heart sank. It took all the courage he had in him to confess his feelings, but as expected, he was rejected.
Jie Fu Lian didn’t even bother giving him a clear response. He looked away and ignored the confession. Perhaps this reaction was even worse than a simple rejection.
"You can continue this conversation when you go back." The demonic beast king added with an awkward chuckle as he looked at Jie Fu Lian, "For now, I have something even more important to tell you."
"Hmm?" Jie Fu Lian didn’t have the energy to say anything so he simply hummed as he waited for the man to continue.
"Master Jie Ming, you should go back and look into your death. If my suspicions are right, your death might have been a preplanned murder."
Jie Fu Lian wasn’t paying much attention to what was being said and hence, his reaction was rather lukewarm as he simply nodded his head.
