Chapter 95: Love is quite special

"Perhaps Jin Long is secretly a woman pretending to be a man."

"Uncle Fu, are you joking...?" Duan Luoyang cautiously asked.

"I mean it would make sense if that were the case," Jie Fu Lian spoke as he nodded to himself.

Since the beginning itself, Jin Long had behaved like a wealthy man’s daughter. He would act arrogant in front of strangers and spoiled in front of people he knew. He was extremely clingy and would easily shed tears for no actual reason. He would pretend to be naive and innocent in front of Jie Fu Lian and would often follow him around. If he weren’t so immature, he would be the same as YangYang, the ’tail’ who religiously followed Jie Fu Lian around all day.

However both Jin Long and YangYang were men and Jie Fu Lian could personally testify to this. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

As Jie Fu Lian thought this, he couldn’t help but chuckle.

Duan Luoyang looked to be a little concerned as he asked, "Uncle Fu, why are you laughing?"

"Don’t worry about it," Jie Fu Lian chuckled as he brushed it off as nothing and continued, "It’s a pity that he isn’t a woman"

"Eh?" Duan Luoyang looked to be even more dumbfounded as he questioned, "But didn’t you just say that it would make sense if he were?"

Jie Fu Lian nodded his head, "It would make sense but I know that it’s not true."

"How do you know?" Duan Luoyang curiously asked.

Jie Fu Lian stopped walking and looked at the man with an odd smile. His eyes slowly trailed down Duan Luoyang’s body and fixated around his crotch area as he commented, "He is a man. I can confirm."

Jie Fu Lian nonchalantly continued walking forward and Duan Luoyang stood frozen in place before coughing in embarrassment as he understood the underlying meaning behind Jie Fu Lian’s words.

"B-but then why would Madam Jin marry him?"

"That’s something only Madam Jin can accurately answer," Jie Fu Lian replied with a sigh, "But I can definitely make a guess if you want."

"A guess?" Duan Luoyang curiously repeated.

Jie Fu Lian gave a nod as he spoke, "We talked to Sect Master Yao and it didn’t seem like Madam Jin Shifeng had a good life in the Yu Sect." He suddenly lifted the book he was reading as he added, "This book can confirm it."

"Huh?" Duan Luoyang tilted his head in confusion.

"She wanted to become a beast tamer but because of her sect master’s strictness, she was forced to give up her only dream. From the start itself, her sect had already planned out a life for her, and straying from that plan was not an option. There were many things that she wanted to do but after the disapproval of Sect Master Yao, she could only give up on her own dreams and aspirations."

"Couldn’t she just leave the sect?" Duan Luoyang questioned, feeling a little pity for the woman.

Jie Fu Lian shook his head as he spoke, "For many of us, cultivation is a path that we choose to take because it feels like the right path for us, but for her, it was something natural. When she was a mere four-month-old baby, her parents abandoned her in front of the Yu Sect gates where Sect Master Yao found her. Seeing her talent in cultivation, Sect Master Yao took her in and raised her like her own. For Jin Shifeng, Sect Master Yao was like a mother and she didn’t dare disobey her mother."

Jie Fu Lian sighed as he suddenly felt a certain sense of empathy for the woman.

Since an age that he couldn’t even remember, Jie Fu Lian had been raised by the sect master of the Yan Sect. Jie Yang Zan was someone he looked up to but also someone he greatly feared.

His father was a man who never acknowledge any of his achievements. No matter how great Jie Fu Lian performed, it would still not be enough for his father. Since his father never praised him, Jie Fu Lian always tried his hardest to improve himself and be the best. The reason why he looked up to Hua Tianshu and wanted to beat the man could also be due to his father who was always praising Hua Tianshu.

However, although he never received a word of praise from his father, he never complained about it nor did he feel particularly sad about it.

It was a bit disappointing but at the end of the day, he was also a bit glad since his father seemed to hold high expectations from him. Everyone told him that he was already trying his best and had made enough achievements in life, but his father only clicked his tongue and told him that his achievements were nothing to be proud of since he was made for greater things.

Now that Jie Fu Lian knew that he used to be a half-demon, he could understand his father. Since he was a half-demon, it was only natural that he was meant for great things, whether they be good or bad was another matter entirely.

He neither hated his father nor loved him. He respected him and was attached to him. He was grateful and hungry for his father’s praises that he never got. Now that the Yan sect was no more and his father had perished away, Jie Fu Lian could only feel guilty for being one of the reasons why such a horrible thing happened.

Jin Shifeng was probably in the same situation. She was grateful to Sect Master Yao. She respected her and didn’t want to disappoint her. Although her dreams and aspirations were valuable to her, Sect Master Yao’s approval was much more valuable.

Even if she was suffering in the Yu Sect, she couldn’t bring herself to cut her ties with the sect and leave on her own.

"Jin Long was only a reason," Jie Fu Lian added with a sigh as he continued, "He was an excuse for her to leave the sect."

Duan Luoyang frowned as he heard this but said nothing.

"When she was young, she used to be a talkative girl. She got along well with all her martial sisters and was quite humorous. Her first love was her personal attendant named Yu Wei. Jin Shifeng had loved Yu Wei a lot and even Yu Wei had loved her back. They were in a serious relationship for three years till Jin Shifeng confessed her feelings for Yu Wei to Sect Master Yao."

Jie Fu Lian took a short pause as he flipped the page of the book before continuing, "Sect Master Yao was strictly against it. Not only did she not want Jin Shifeng to be in such a relationship with a woman, she also didn’t want her beloved disciple to love a mere sect attendant. That day, she strictly scolded Jin Shifeng and locked her up in her room while she tortured Yu Wei by putting her in the cold prison, almost starving her to death."

Due to obvious reasons, Sect Master Yao had clearly not mentioned such details when she narrated the incident to Jie Fu Lian and Hua Tianshu, however, the book ’A fool’s guide to pursue Jin Shifeng’ was more like a detailed biography about her and hence, Jie Fu Lian was able to easily find such information that elaborated the cruelty of Sect Master Yao.

"When Jin Shifeng found out that her beloved was being tortured, she immediately begged Sect Master Yao to let Yu Wei go and in turn, she promised to cut all ties with Yu Wei. Sect Master Yao happily agreed to this and dismissed Yu Wei the very next day."

"How cruel," Duan Luoyang gritted out, "Is loving someone such a sin?"

Although there were same-sex relationships in the martial world, it wasn’t a common practice. Naturally, there were many who supported such couples but there also some who didn’t. Sect Master Yao seemed to be a classic example of the latter.

Duan Luoyang was the former type. Since his Shizun also loved a man, Duan Luoyang was quite used to it and supported such couples a lot.

If Sect Master Yao looked down on Jin Shifeng just because of her preferences then she would surely look down on Hua Tianshu too, and Duan Luoyang certainly didn’t feel happy when he thought about someone looking down on his Shizun.

"Loving someone isn’t a sin," Jie Fu Lian sighed as he spoke, "In fact, the feeling called ’love’ is quite special. You only feel true love towards a certain person and no matter how much time passes, you continue loving them with all your heart. Of course, the one’s who have felt such love would never be able to criticise Jin Shifeng, but Sect Master Yao had never loved anyone so it was only natural that she didn’t understand."

Duan Luoyang felt a little touched as he heard this and enthusiastically asked, "Uncle Fu, to say such things... Have you also experienced the feeling called love?"

Jie Fu Lian smiled as he heard this and pointed at a certain page in the book as he spoke, "It was written right here. I only read it out for you."
